Yes, there is a movie going into development based on the old Atari video game Asteroids.

Universal has won a four-studio bidding war to pick up the film rights to the classic Atari video game”Asteroids,” says The Hollywood Reporter. Matthew Lopez will write the script for the feature adaptation, which will be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura.

I feel like any sci-fi space movie involving Asteroids in any way could be the script for the film. Given their artistic freedom I certainly hope something can be put together that actually tells a good story. Time will tell. In the mean time:
