Angela’s Ashes Author In Hospice

The author of the memoir, Angela’s Ashes, Frank McCourt 78, is said to be near death.  Frank had recently beaten melanoma only to have contracted meningitis.  His younger brother Malachy McCourt said that the author is in a New York hospice where he

“is not expected to live,”…”his faculties shutting down,”

The Pulitzer Prize-winning 1996 memoir Angela’s Ashes, followed the life of John and his family in Ireland surviving through poverty.  It was made into a movie in 1999.  McCourt followed up with ‘Tis which followed his traveling to New York from Ireland, and Teacher Man chronicling his time as a high school teacher and professor.
