Hermione Granger might not be so much of a Muggle after all!   Genealogy experts have discovered that actress Emma Watson, famous for portraying the young wizard, is related to a woman who was convicted of witchcraft in the 16th century.

Joan Playle, Emma’s cousin 14 generations removed, was tried and accused of being a witch in 1592.  The usual punishment at the the time was execution, but Playle was only excommunicated.

Anastasia Tyler, who researched the connection, said

“It shows researching your family’s past can have just as many twists and turns as a film blockbuster.”

No wonder playing Hermione comes to naturally to Emma!
