Thoughts: I couldn’t me more bored with this movie series, but people keep buying tickets every year. Blood guts and gore for the hungry masses, I just don’t understand it.

Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant

What it’s about: A young boy named Darren Shan meets a mysterious man at a freak show who turns out to be a Vampire. After a series of events Darren must leave his normal life and go on the road with the Cirque Du Freak and become a Vampire.

Rating: Rated PG-13 for sequences of intense supernatural violence and action, disturbing images, thematic elements and some language.

Thoughts: This movie really doesn’t look like the start of a great series, although thats what it’s supposed to be. I’m sure this will be entertaining for the kids, but movies should appeal to adults as well and this one just isn’t doing much for me.

What it’s about: Set in futuristic Metro City, Astro Boy is about a young robot with incredible powers created by a brilliant scientist in the image of the son he has lost. Unable to fulfill the grieving man’s expectations, our hero embarks on a journey in search of acceptance, experiencing betrayal and a netherworld of robot gladiators, before he returns to save Metro City and reconcile with the father who had rejected him.

Rating: Rated PG for some action and peril, and brief mild language.

Thoughts: This is one of those movies made from an old show that really could be great, or really bad. My bet is that it will be fun, but it just looks so darn generic to me. I’m sure the film will do well internationally.

What it’s about: A look at the life of legendary American pilot Amelia Earhart, who disappeared while flying over the Pacific Ocean in 1937 in an attempt to make a flight around the world.

Rating: Rated PG for some sensuality, language, thematic elements and smoking.

Thoughts: This is a biopic that seems as if it should have come out a long time ago, but I’m glad it’s now since Hilary Swank is playing Amelia. I have minor fears of this movie being boring, but I’m pretty sure it will be good.

What it’s about: An adaptation of Maurice Sendak’s classic children’s story, where Max, a disobedient little boy sent to bed without his supper, creates his own world–a forest inhabited by ferocious wild creatures that crown Max as their ruler.

Rating: Rated PG for mild thematic elements, some adventure action and brief language.

Thoughts: This is one of those rare movies that can be completely bizarre and charming at the same time. I’m really looking forward to seeing this movie, Spike Jonze really was the perfect choice to direct this film.

Thoughts: Another movie I’m really looking forward to this fall. It’s based on the Pulitzer Prize winning novel that I have not read, but hear is really great. Plus the movie has fantastic actors like Charlize Theron and Viggo Mortensen. This is going to be good.

Thoughts: This is a movie to see the day it comes out with so many great actors packed into one film. This was Heath Ledger‘s final film before he died, it will be interesting to see how his final performance turned out.

What it’s about: A coming-of-age story about a teenage girl in 1960s suburban London, and how her life changes with the arrival of a playboy nearly twice her age.

Rating: Rated PG-13 for mature thematic material involving sexual content, and for smoking.

Thoughts: The whole 1960 London aspect makes this movie look much more attractive than it might set in modern time. There are some great actors in this film who most likely give it a solid backbone, plus the screenwriter has a good track record. Not the type of movie I’m going to rush out to see, but I would watch it.

Thoughts: I got the chance to be on the set of this movie at one point, I’m pretty sure the final product is going to be funny. With this many funny improvisational actors in the same place we are bound to get some good laughs.

Thoughts: I love a good campy horror/comedy, this looks like it will be a lot of fun. The movie reminds me of Army of Darkness, just ridiculous undead comedy.
