Whip It

Starring: Ellen Page, Marcia Gay Harden, Kristen Wiig, Juliette Lewis, Daniel Stern, Eve

What it’s about: In Bodeen, Texas, an indie-rock loving misfit finds a way of dealing with her small-town misery after she discovers a roller derby league in nearby Austin.

Rating: Rated PG-13 for sexual content including crude dialogue, language and drug material.

Trailer:

Release Date: October 2nd, 2009

Thoughts: I think my biggest interest in this movie is simply the fact that Drew Barrymore directed it, I’m very curious to see how well she put it together after her lifelong experience as an actor. The movie looks like it could be fun, but I doubt I would have much interest otherwise, but I do really like Ellen Page.

What it’s about: Set in a futuristic world where humans live in isolation and interact through surrogate robots, a cop (Willis) is forced to leave his home for the first time in years in order to investigate the murders of others’ surrogates.

Rating: Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence, disturbing images, language, sexuality and a drug-related scene.

Trailer:

Release Date: September 25th, 2009

Thoughts: This movie reminds me a lot of The Stepford Wives. I like the concept so I’m sure I’ll see it, but it just looks like it has been really overdone with the CGI making the Surrogates look a little too plastic.

Trailer:

Thoughts: This movie isn’t for everyone, it would definitely fall into the ‘chick flick’ category but at least it has some high quality actors. Hopefully there’s more to the script than a pile of cliches, but I have little hope of that considering even the title is cliche.

Rating: Rated R for strong bloody violence, language, some sexuality/nudity and partying.

Trailer:

Release Date: September 11th, 2009

Thoughts: I’m so tired of remakes, this movie is yet another. This is one of those movies where you know exactly what you are getting before you go in to watch it. Don’t expect anything fresh and new in this one. The only thing this movie has going for it in my opinion is Carrie Fisher.
