Madonna On Lady Gaga Comparisons

One to always push boundaries and try something new, Madonna was asked about the newest boundary pusher on the music scene, Lady Gaga. The two kick butt blondes were both at the MTV Video Music Awards last night (September 13) and Madonna was asked what she thought of Lady Gaga.

“I just saw Lady Gaga,” Madonna said with a smile. “She looks like she’s going to carnival in Venice, very beautiful.”

That was a very gracious way of describing Lady Gaga’s arrival outfit. But then, this is Madonna who has worn everything from lingerie, to a men’s tuxedo, to a Dangerous Liaisons inspired costume to the VMAs.

Madonna, 50, was also asked if she felt at all threatened by the comparisons between Lady Gaga, 23, and herself.

“No, I’m very flattered.”

I do see the comparisons between Madonna and Lady Gaga. They are both into getting a reaction from their audiences, speak freely about their sexuality, and stir up the music business when things get stagnant. There was also something about Gaga’s “Paparazzi” performance that reminded me of Madonna’s “Vogue” at the 1990 VMAs.

What do you think about the comparisons? How about Madonna’s gracious responses?
