Ellen Talks About Her American Idol Critics

Ellen Degeneres & Portia DeRossi

Everyone didn’t exactly jump for joy when they heard the news that Ellen DeGeneres is replacing Paula Abdul on American Idol.  The biggest beef has been that Ellen isn’t qualified to judge musical talent when she isn’t in the industry.  So on Tuesday (Sept 22nd), Ellen talked about the critics on her show,

“Apparently, there’s a lot of debate going on right now whether I’m qualified or not to be the new judge on American Idol,” she said. “… I know there is a lot chatter. I’ll tell you right now, how I know I’m going to be a great judge … I’ve spent my whole life being judged. So I know what it’s like.”

“So I will be kind. I will be compassionate. I will be empathetic, and I will be truthful. I will be an honest judge without being mean.

“But the things that people are saying…” she went on. “I thought America had moved past this. First, we have the first African American President. We’ve sworn in our first Hispanic Supreme Court Justice. I think American Idol is ready for their first blonde judge … I do.”

Ellen continued with some funny jokes of course and is keeping an overall positive attitude about the whole thing.  I think she will be fine.  Anyone but Paula wouldn’t feel “right”.  But, that the price we fans pay for Paula leaving.  I don’t think anyone should come down on Ellen for accepting an amazing offer.  Who wouldn’t want to get that job?  It was weird enough last season when Kara came on, right?  But we got over that.  Ellen will be fine peeps.
