Ron Livingston Joins Steve Carell in ‘Dinner for Schmucks’

ron-livingtonsteve_carrell

Office Space star Ron Livingston is set to join The Office star Steve Carell in the upcoming comedy Dinner for Schmucks.

Ron Livingston has joined the table for the Jay Roach-helmed comedy “Dinner for Schmucks.”The film, which stars Steve Carell and Paul Rudd, is being co-financed by DreamWorks, Spyglass and Paramount.

Pic is an adaptation of the Francis Veber-helmed French film “Le dinner de cons,” in which a group of bourgeois friends regularly invite the biggest schmucks to dinner to ridicule them. Livingston’s recent credits include New Line’s “The Time Traveler’s Wife” and the indie “Holly.”

I’ve liked Ron Livingston since Office Space. The combination of these actors is bound to bring us a lot of laughs. I’m looking forward to seeing more on this one.

My friend who dragged me to the midnight showing of the first film asked if I wanted to go to the midnight screening of The Twilight Saga: New Moon. I gave him my coldest stare, no words, he got the point.

‘Paranormal Activity 2′ Talks Already Beginning

paranormal-activity-review-2

Paranormal Activity is doing great in the box office, so now a sequel is likely.

Can lightning strike twice?

Paramount Pictures is hoping so, as the studio is actively considering producing a sequel to “Paranormal Activity,” the out-of-the-blue horror flick that cost $15,000 to produce and has sold $62.5 million worth of tickets so far domestically.

“We have the rights on a worldwide basis to do ‘Paranormal 2′ and we’re looking to see if that makes some sense,” Paramount Chairman Brad Grey said in an interview today.

In an industry obsessed with building franchises, a second “Paranormal Activity” seems like a no-brainer. The studio acquired the movie for just $300,000 and has spent less than $10 million on marketing, relying primarily on word-of-mouth and Internet buzz. It is on track to gross more than $100 million domestically. That would make it, Grey said, the most profitable film for  Paramount since he took over in 2005 and, quite possibly, in the studio’s history.

I’d be willing to bet money that this sequel will get made. I’d also be willing to bet it won’t be any good. It’ll probably cost ten to twenty times what the first one cost (not hard since it was made for $13,000) and be so overdone it won’t even been scary. Remember Blair Witch 2? Didn’t think so.

New Woody Allen Film Gets a Title: ‘You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger’

slice_woody_allen_01

Woody Allen’s newest film finally has a title, You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger. The film stars Antonio Banderas, Josh Brolin, Anthony Hopkins, Naomi Watts, Gemma Jones, Lucy Punch, and Freida Pinto.

So today, months after the shoot has ended, it’s news that Woody Allen’s newest movie has a title. You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger, which sounds either like a prophecy or a threat, will be coming out in about a year.

It’s strange how long it takes for him to decide on a title to his films. I have no clue what this movie is about, but the cast is enough for my interest to be peaked.

‘This is It’ Director Quits ‘Footloose’ Remake

kenny

Kenny Ortega the director of Michael Jackson’s This is It has dropped out of directing the remake of the film Footloose.

Kenny Ortega has dropped out as director of Footloose over differences with Paramount Pictures on tone and budget, reports Variety. Ortega directed Wednesday opener Michael Jackson’s This Is It.

The studio is starting the search for a new director to keep the project on track for a March production start, when star Chace Crawford is on hiatus from “Gossip Girl.” Crawford is starring with Julianne Hough, the “Dancing With theStars” dancer and country singer.

The trade says that Ortega wanted to make a film with elaborately staged musical numbers at a budget of about $30 million. Paramount production chief Adam Goodman wanted an edgier drama with less emphasis on the musical numbers and a budget around $25 million or less.

Kenny Ortega is a really awesome guy, I’m sure his reasoning made a lot of sense. He has a vision and he likes to see it come to fruition in the way he plans it, there are plenty of other projects out there that he’ll be helming with great success.

The hilarious Ricky Gervais will be hosting the next Golden Globe Awards.

Ricky Gervais has been tapped to host the 67th annual Golden Globe Awards, which airs live on NBC on Jan. 17 from the Beverly Hilton.

The telecast hasn’t had a host since 1995.

Gervais, who co-created the BBC version of “The Office,” has proven adept at awards show banter during his recent appearances on the Emmys.

“Ricky is certainly one of the funniest people on the planet and has provided some of the most hilarious and memorable awards show moments in recent memory,” said Paul Telegdy, exec vp alternative programming at NBC and Universal Media Studios. “His unique comedic style will enhance the only awards show that brings together television and film stars to celebrate entertainment’s biggest night of the year.”

Gervais is a funny man, he’ll be a great choice for the first host in 15 years. It’s hard to believe awards season is going to be rolling around again soon. This is the time to start looking for all those great films that have to be released by the end of the year.

into_temptation

Here’s the trailer for the upcoming film Into Temptation starring Kristin Chenoweth.

Looks like it could be a good little film, but it also seems that it could easily fall flat. Chenoweth is a really good actress on stage and screen so there must be some quality here.
