The new animated film Planet 51 has officially been given NASA’s blessing, they’re allowing the film to use the NASA logo and they even sent a copy of the film into orbit on the space station.

The film was launched into space aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery on August 28, 2009, and was transferred to the space station by the astronauts a few days later. The film is now cruising high above Earth at 17,500 miles per hour and orbiting the planet every 90 minutes, which is the exact running time of the movie, so it will make a full Earth orbit as the movie premieres on the ground.

In a joint statement, producers Guy Collins and Ignacio Perez said that, “Planet 51 is a fun film for all the family and one of its strong messages, particularly for children, is to not be afraid of the unknown. That is what NASA has been showing the world for 50 years and I hope that our film will encourage children to increase their understanding of the Universe and NASA’s work.”

This is some serious marketing for the animated film, I certainly hope it’s worth the NASA blessing. If I were an astronaut on the space station I think I might be annoyed that all I have to watch is a random little animated film about space. Marketing truly knows no bounds.

Here’s a new featurette for the upcoming film The Fourth Kind starring Milla Jovovich.

It’s like watching a legitimate documentary until it gets to the end. I wonder how many people will believe this little farce. Fact mixed with fiction offers a lot of possibility for marketing.

Oh noes!  Singer Morrissey collapsed on stage yesterday and was rushed to the hospital.

Morrissey was performing at the Oasis Leisure Center in Swindon, England, when he started having trouble breathing.    The ambulance company said that he was conscious when they arrived, and that his condition is probably not life threatening.

The former frontman of The Smiths (one of the best bands ever) is on tour promoting his new album, Years of Refusal.  Although a dramatic and tragic death would probably suit Morrissey well, we hope he gets better soon.

Charlize Theron helped the charity ONEXONE big time last week!  She appeared at the group’s gala event and live auction at Bimbo’s in San Francisco and raised bucks – and temperatures.

The actress initially put a trip to South Africa (complete with 2010 World Cup tickets, a meeting with Nelson Mandela, and a safari) on the auction block.  Unsatisifed with the bids, which stalled at $37,000, Charlize threw in a kiss.   That did the trick:  a female attendee bid $140,000 – outbidding a male attendee by $5,000 – for the right to smooch Charlize.

Way to go!  ONEXONE works to improve the overall health and living conditions of children in living in poor countries.  They’ve got lots of celebrity support, including that of Ben Affleck.

Model Sarah Bradford made her runway debut just months ago, but she’s determined to follow in her stepbrother Matt Damon‘s footsteps to the silver screen.  However, some roles are simply too close for comfort.  She told New York Magazine:

Five months ago, I went in for a reading for this movie Matt’s in, The Adjustment Bureau; it’s in production right now in New York. It was for a character named Elise—she is basically queen bee at this ballet academy—and all of a sudden they say, “Are you aware that if you get this role, you’ll be playing Matt’s love, having a love affair with your brother?” My jaw dropped. My manager just completely wasn’t told.  I’m no longer with that manager.  I just read for a more appropriate role in the movie, Elise’s friend, and I got the part. It’s very exciting. What parents wouldn’t want their children to work together?

Well yes.  I’m sure most parents would love their children to work together, just not THAT closely.   You can catch Sarah (without her brother) in the upcoming movies When The Devil Comes and Mountain Park.

Paris Hilton helped celebrate Hello Kitty’s 35th birthday at a party in Culver City, CA on Thursday night.   Why she chose to celebrate this milestone with a Hello Kitty shaped bag bigger than a toddler, we may never know.

I LOVE Hello Kitty, I really do.  The amount of Hello Kitty stuff in my house is nearly embarrassing.  But this bag takes things just a bit too far!  Paris looks like she’s struggling to even hold it!

When Salma Hayek coupled up with her now husband Francois-Henry Pinault she had no idea about his Christmas time habits. No, not his gift giving, but his food! Salma has traded turkey for oysters for Christmas dinner.

“Eating oysters for Christmas is a weird one I didn’t know about. I had no idea that would be happening. I’m used to turkey. Its going to take some getting used to.”

I wonder if that’s a European habit or if it’s just a Francois-Henry tradition.

The couple were married on Valentine’s Day (February 14) this year, 2009 and have a daughter, Valentina Paloma.

Unlike Evan Rachel Wood, Mischa Barton looked fantastic at the launch of the Gucci Icon-Temporary Flash Sneaker store in SoHo on Friday (October 23rd).  This is the best that I have seen Mischa look in a long time.  I was worried that she might land back in rehab after her show was dropped but it seems that she has risen above and looks great, healthy, happy.

Welcome back, Mischa!  You have been missed!  Stay healthy girl!

One of my favorite Scrubs stars, Sarah Chalke was spotted out in West Hollywood on Friday (October 23rd) strolling with her baby bump on Third Street.  It was time for lunch at Joan’s.  I wonder what she was craving?  I love hearing about all the different craving lil mommas have.  She looks so happy, absolutely glowing.

Sarah’s due date is getting closer….her little bundle is set to arrive on Christmas day!  Talk about the best present ever!

Kim Kardashian has to keep herself busy while her man, Reggie Bush is busy playing football for the New Orleans Saints.  What better way to pass the time that to shop?  And what better place to shop than at Barneys New York in Beverly Hills?!  Kim and her pal, Brittny Gastineau got in some good shopping on Friday (October 23rd) and it looks like Kim was in the market for a winter coat.  I think the one she was trying on is adorable but, do you really need a winter coat in Los Angeles?
