Kate Winslet Wins Libel Case

Oscar winning actress Kate Winslet has won a $40,000 libel suit against British tabloid The Daily Mail for saying she lied about her exercise regime.
“I strongly believe that women should be encouraged to accept themselves as they are, so to suggest that I was lying was an unacceptable accusation of hypocrisy,” the 33-year-old mother of two said in a statement.
In the British High Court on Tuesday (November 3), The Daily Mail accepted that the allegations in their January 30 article, “Should Kate Winslet win an Oscar for the World’s most irritating actress?”, were false.
“I am delighted that the Mail have apologized for making false allegations about me,” Winslet said in the statement. “I was particularly upset to be accused of lying about my exercise regime, and felt that I had a responsibility to request an apology in order to demonstrate my commitment to the views that I have always expressed about body issues, including diet and exercise.”
The Daily Mail also agreed to publish an apology, pay damages to Winslet as well as her legal fees.
