Arnold Stang Dead at 91

Arnold StangArnold Stang

One of Hollywood’s great old actors has died today, Arnold Stang.

Arnold Stang, an actor who appeared alongside Milton Berle and Frank Sinatra and was known for his nerdy looks and distinctive nasal voice, has died. He was 91.

Stang died Sunday of pneumonia at Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Massachusetts, said JoAnne Stang, his wife of 60 years.

She attributed her husband’s career longevity to his willingness to tackle any professional challenge.

“He was really unique, because he could perform in any role, comedy or drama, he just loved it all,” she said Tuesday. “He always thought of himself just as an actor, not any particular kind of actor, but just an actor who would play whatever he was asked to play.”

Despite often playing goofy characters, Stang was the consummate professional, preparing the same for his biggest roles and the smallest commercials.

“I remember how smart he was, and how hard-working, and how disciplined he was, no matter what the role,” his wife said…

…He played alongside Berle on radio and television in the 1950s, starred as Sinatra’s sidekick in the 1955 movie “The Man with the Golden Arm,” and was a member of the ensemble comedic cast of “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World” in 1963.

The dramatic role alongside Sinatra was one of his favorites, his wife said.

He voiced cartoons, including the lead character in the 1960s cartoon “Top Cat,” and did dozens of commercials, perhaps most notably for the Chunky candy bar.

He appeared in movies alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bill Cosby and continued acting into his 80s, playing a role in the 1993 movie “Dennis the Menace.”

I remember him in the film It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, which was the original version of Rat Race. He was a great performer. Condolences to his family and friends.

Kevin Jonas and Danielle Deleasa Honeymoon In Mexico (PHOTOS)

Kevin Jonas kissing Danielle Deleasa

Kevin Jonas and Danielle Deleasa are celebrating their marriage in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico at a luxury resort (I am guessing The One and Only Palmilla) and it looks like they are having a wonderful time.  The weather is perfect, they are getting great tans.  And well, I am sure that their suite is getting a lot of use too.  Kevin Jonas and his bride kept their relationship ‘pure’ until marriage.  So, that equals an amazing honeymoon!

Congrats once again to the newlyweds!  Enjoy that honeymoon!

Cute New ‘Despicable Me’ Poster is Inexplicable

Despicable Me Poster 2

Here’s the newest poster for next summer’s animated comedy Despicable Me.

I don’t know what’s going on in this poster, but it’s cute. The movie is also something that hasn’t got a clear plot laid out, but Steve Carell and a lot of other comics are lending their voices. Hopefully that factor will equal funny!

Mo’Nique Snubs New York Film Critics Award! What is She Thinking?

Mo'Nique in Precious

Mo’Nique has said she will not appear to receive the New York Film Critics Award next month!  She’s already won the award for her performance in Precious, but the director will have to accept it for her!

She’s been nominated for several best supporting actress awards, but talk show host and comedian Mo’Nique doesn’t care or doesn’t get it.

According to reports and sources, she’s decided to skip the New York Film Critics Awards next month. The group was going to give her an award for her excellent work in “Precious.” Now director Lee Daniels will accept on her behalf.

Mo’Nique lives in Atlanta and has few serious acting credits. She does have a TV show on BET, and that’s where the following clip comes from. In it, she asks former Oscar nominees Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson the most pressing question about Oscar campaigning: “What does it mean financially?”…

…Months ago I told you that Mo’Nique wouldn’t do publicity for the movie unless she was paid. According to sources she demanded cash in envelopes, not just for her makeup artists and stylists, but for herself. For some reason, she thought these were paid appearances. Everyone from Oprah Winfrey to Lee Daniels tried to set her straight. But she missed the Cannes, Toronto and New York Film Festivals because of it. She’s also gone through several publicists.

Nothing seems to get through, which is odd because Mo’Nique seems like a bright person. But snubbing the NYFCC is a plan she should reconsider. She makes a point in that clip: she made the movie, you see her performance, what else can she do? This is a bit naive, but true fundamentally. But maybe she doesn’t understand that she’s already won this award. This isn’t the same as doing publicity.

She’s also been nominated for a Golden Globe and she’ll probably be nominated for an Oscar for her stellar performance. C’mon now Mo’Nique we want to see you get the awards you deserve! Things like this don’t happen to many people, not even to the most talented people in the business. What do you think? Should Mo’Nique accept the NYFCC Award?

‘Frozen’ Trailer to Creep Out the Skiers

Frozen Poster

Here’s the trailer for the upcoming film Frozen.

Looks pretty creepy, it reminds me of Eli Roth‘s Cabin Fever. I certainly hope it’s as good as that movie, the concept is certainly freaky.

Next 007 Film is Shocking According to Writer

Daniel Craig as Bond

According to Peter Morgan the writer of James Bond 23, it’s going to be shocking!

Peter Morgan (Frost/NixonThe Queen) talked briefly to MI6 about what we can expect from James Bond 23.

The site says that Morgan has been writing the first draft of the screenplay from July until October of this year. “It’s a shocking story”, he said after admitting he couldn’t give anything more away.

Pre-production work on the 23rd installment, and third 007 film starring Daniel Craig, has been put on hold until the expected sale of MGM goes through.

Supposedly it’s supposed to start shooting late 2010, so we can hope for a November 2011 release, but depending on the MGM issues it could be the following year. Hopefully we don’t have to wait that long.
