Helena Bonham Carter: “My Fashion Choices Are Criminal”

Helena Bonham Carter On The Red Carpet At The French Premiere Of Alice In Wonderland

Helena Bonham Carter recently spoke with New York Magazine about her turn as the Red Queen in Tim Burton‘s Alice In Wonderland.  I swear she’d never get any work anymore if she weren’t domestically partnered with Burton.  But I digress.  When the conversation turned to fashion, Helena finally admitted to something I’ve been suspecting for years.

… I’m in the stocks perpetually here:  “What is she wearing now?” “How dare she?”  Like, criminal acts.  Now I feel like I have a reputation to keep.  I have a responsibility now to dress badly.  It’s kind of liberating.

See, I knew it:  she DOES do it on purpose.

She has 4 films at the moment, ONE is a Burton film. So therefore, she DOES get jobs other than Burton’s films. Next time, do your research.

Ummm…are you aware of the character called ‘Bellatrix Lestrange’ in the Harry Potter series? Helena has nailed the character to beyond perfection in the films. Tim Burton did not direct one Harry Potter flick. So, it’s criminal to say that she’s got all her roles due to Burton’s influence. She’s a great actress, and that’s a fact. Her Oscar-nominated role in ‘The Wings of the Dove’ wan’t due to Burton’s influence. In fact, she hadn’t even met Burton at the time. So do your research about her.

Helena Bonham Carter has acted in 58 films so far in her career (as of 19 March 2010; she started off way back in 1983, FYI), of which only 6 films have been in collaboration with Tim Burton (Planet of the Apes, Big Fish, Corpse Bride, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, and Alice in Wonderland). According to you, via whose influence, then, did she land up the other 52 films of her career, so far? She’s still got ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I’ and ‘The King’s Speech’, up for release this year, and ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II’ next year. None of those films have been directed by Tim Burton. So, whose influence worked for her in those films?

Johnny Depp has worked with Tim Burton in 7 films so far, and the 8th collaboration between Depp & Burton up for release in 2011 (Dark Shadows), much more than the Burton-Bonham Carter pairing. Then, why don’t you suggest that even Johnny Depp would be severely unemployed, if it weren’t for his friendship with Tim Burton (Johnny Depp is Tim Burton’s son’s godfather)?

Wow – who are you to say she’d never get any work if she wasn’t “domestically partnered” with Tim Burton? Good lord. She’s only an award-winning, internationally-celebrated artist. And you are? Someone or something or some people called “gossipmonkey”…… Helena rocks! Anyone who’s followed her career even peripherally know that she’s an absolutely phenomenal actress.

Oh, no… how could I have possibly overlooked such glaring nepotism? I didn’t realize Tim Burton was in charge of the Harry Potter casting department. But, Bellatrix Lestrange wasn’t a significant performance or anything… And, no no no, Helena Bonham Carter has only ever been in Tim Burton films; it’s not like she has an impressive filmography without his movies.

Please, people. With all the washed out plastic bimbos of today’s Hollywood, we should be thankful for lovely ladies like Helena. So you don’t like her fashion sense or the fact that she fits so perfectly into Tim Burton World; at LEAST she can act.

She is beautiful, and also, my fashion inspiration.

You are one of the biggest idiots ever. Yes, Helena Bonham Carter has been in several Tim Burton movies. To be exact, 5. However, the first movie she did with him was before they were in relationship. So he obviously casted her because of her talent, and still does if she is right for the part. The last completed Tim Burton movie she was in was Alice in Wonderland, since then she has done four other movies, (The Kings Speech, Harry Potter DH part1, Toast, Harry Potter DH part2) and she did four of them all in 2010. I wont even go into the other 61 movie and tv roles/movies she’s been in.
Also women should not have to dress a certain way. This isn’t the 1950′s, and quite frankly it isn’t anybody’s right to judge her and how she dresses.
