‘Glee’ To Be Britney-fied Y’All!

'Glee' Cory Monteith, Lea Michele, Chris Colfer, Dianna Agron, Mark Salling, Amber Riley, and Jenna Ushkovitz

Glee had an awesome episode this past week with “The Power Of Madonna” and it was so successful, creator Ryan Murphy is considering a second helping of her Madgeness. We know there is an upcoming episode revolving around Lady Gaga’s music and Jennifer Lopez is in talks to appear on the show as well as having her catalog of songs featured. Murphy is now telling EW he is open to a Britney Spears (or Courtney Love, Billy Joel and Led Zepplin) themed show(s) as well.

“I’m interested in the Britney Spears idea. I’ve always loved her. I’m entertaining it. I think young kids would like that.” Murphy also says that he’s contemplating doing similar hour tributes to Billy Joel, Led Zeppelin, and, even, Courtney Love! “I actually ran into Courtney Love the other day and talked to her,” says Murphy. “She’s interested. I would love to have the kids do a Courtney Love episode one day.” But he stresses that with all of these artists it really all comes down to the music and how it fits in the Glee universe. “The key is the songs in the catalogue have to have a certain degree of theatricality,” says Murphy.

I don’t know about this. I am VERY skeptical. Everyone of these artists have songs that could certainly fit within an episode, but to have entire shows devoted to only their music I think would be a mistake. To many of these will seem more vanity driven than storyline and take away from the overall joy of watching. You know how you feel when a show is popular and has too many celebrity guests? THAT is where this is heading. Don’t go overboard!

I would however, love love LOVE to see Rachel (Lea Michele) have a chance to sing Courtney’s “Celebrity Skin” or Quinn (Diann Agron) to give Puck (Mark Salling) the “Womanizer” treatment.

Individual songs – YES! Entire shows – NO!
