Another tragic story to report.  Another life lost, far too early. Discovery Channel’s Matt Hughes from the thrilling show, Storm Chasers died on May 26.  His death wasn’t made public or with honesty for what we can assume was for the privacy of the family, while they grieved his suicide.

The network had this to say about Matt,

[he was] “a featured meteorologist on Storm Chasers passed away on May 26th, 2010 in Wichita, Kansas due to an injury unrelated to his chasing activities. Sean, Reed, Tim and everyone involved in Storm Chasers mourn the loss of their friend and colleague.” Last night’s episode featured “Matt’s incredible last chase, and is dedicated to his memory.”

TMZ reported on the actual suicide,

[police] “responded to a suicide call at Hughes’ home. According to the police report, officers concluded Matt, who was still breathing, was drinking before the suicide attempt,” and while he was hospitalized, he died “13 days later. The Medical Examiner’s report lists ‘Hanging’ as the cause of death.”

The bottom line is that Matt was suffering from severe depression, got drunk, hung himself, but it didn’t kill him.  His injuries were too severe and he couldn’t be saved.

Very, very sad.  Our thoughts and prayers are with Matt Hughes family and friends as they continue to mourn their loss.

Before anyone goes off the deep end, freaking out because Miley Cyrus was photographed drinking some Coronas in Madrid, remember that she is going to be 18 in a few days.  Sure, that’s not the legal age in America.  But it is in Madrid.  Who hasn’t gotten drunk underage?  Give me a break.

Dancing With The Stars cuties, Chelsie HIghtower and Mark Ballas were seen out shopping at the MAC store at The Grove and goodness!  They are really cute together!  I am sure this is totally platonic, but wow.  I have to admit, I am still pulling for Bristol Palin and Mark to get serious after the show.  I think he’d be great for her.  Their chemistry is amazing.

I just saw the trailer for this movie for the first time a couple of nights ago and I was instantly sucked in.  I never would have put Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway in a “sex movie” together.  But then again, I never woul dhave thought of Jake hooking up with Taylor Swift in real life.  And, um…. Anne and Jake are really, really hot together.  I can’t wait to see the whole thing.  Watching the trailer repeatedly isn’t doing it for me….

Nick Lachey finally popped the question to Vanessa Minnillo and the two are officially engaged.  They gave a joint statement,

“We’re excited and incredibly happy about our engagement and we look forward to a wonderful future together.”

Nick gave Vanessa who he’s been with since 2006 an Asscher-cut diamond with baguettes from Bader & Garrin.  They haven’t shared a photo yet, but I can tell you that is an amazing ring.  As soon as they share, I’ll show you!

Nick had to go to Twitter to make sure all his fans knew the engagement is legit,

“Hey all. If anyone’s heard the rumors of my engagement, they are absolutely true! Vanessa and I couldn’t be happier. Thanks for all the love.”

That is really cute.  Congrats to the happy couple!

Hannah Montana‘s Emily Osment made an appearance at El Corte Inglés Castellana in Madrid to sign copies of her new album Fight or Flight.  Emily’s music sounds like all the other overly-produced Disney stars who try their hand at singing.  Or should I say, whom Disney forces to try their hand at singing.  Nothing memorable or special at all.  Emily is a pretty good TV actress, why not stick with that?  But hey – she looks really cute here, so let’s leave it at that.

The cover girl is interviewed by Katie Couric, and gets pretty honest on a number of topics – including her not so secret past as a child star on Kids Incorporated.

On her  own version of post-addiction [crystal meth] clean living: Well, I’m not claiming to be sober. I think that that would be misleading. I drink alcohol. My father has a vineyard, and [the wine is] really delicious, by the way…for most addicts, they would advise never to have any sort of substance. I just have my own journey, and I am very blessed to this day to be alive.

On staying grounded as a child star, thanks to her parents: First of all, they didn’t take any of [my] money. They put it in a trust fund for me. And once in a while, my mother and I would go into this luxurious store, and I’d pick out one outfit that I could buy for myself. This is the girl who got hand-me-downs from the church. So it was the most special treat in the world.

On being a woman in the music industry: You gotta be tough. And you gotta have a thick skin. You will get teased. I definitely took on the little sister role in [the Peas]. And it’s hilarious, because I always wanted a big brother—well, I got a bunch of ‘em. Be careful what you wish for.
