Landon Donovan, the Team USA World Cup soccer star, has filed for divorce from his wife, Rules of Engagement actress Bianca Kajlich.

Originally married in 2006, the couple tried to get back on track after Donovan was accused of fathering a child with a British woman, which later turned out to be untrue. Donovan and Kajilch appeared to be reconciling as they were spotted together several times in 2009. It wasn’t meant to be.

In a joint statement from the couple they said:

“We remain the closest of friends and will always be important parts of each other’s lives.”

The couple have been separated since 2009 according to documents on record in Los Angeles County from Donovan.

Donovan cited “irreconcilable differences” and is seeking spousal support and legal fees from Kajlich.

Kathy Griffin gets the chance again this year to try and get Anderson Cooper to say something inappropriate.

The comedienne was rehired by CNN to host their New Year’s Eve countdown after being fired last year. Griffin dropped the F-bomb and the executives were not happy. (Have they never seen her show?)

So just how did she get rehired? Griffin says:

“Yes, I was fired. They issued a statement. I was banned from CNN and then as Anderson Cooper says, “There was a change in management,” which was great because the guy who fired me got fired, so being the cockroach that I am, I’m just going to outlast everybody. That’s my career philosophy; it’s not a very deep one. I basically have the survivor moniker in my life which is, outlast, outwit, outplay. That’s what I’ve done with the management at CNN.”

Kathy breathes life into a very stuffy CNN once a year and Cooper’s reactions are priceless. It’s interesting television – exactly what it’s supposed to be. There are plenty of other celebrity driven NYE celebrations to watch if you don’t like Griffin’s brand of humor.

The destructive behavior of an addict who leaves treatment too soon can shatter so many lives around that person. For her role in Country Strong, Gwyneth Paltrow plays Kelly, a country singer who gets out of rehab far too early, loses her sobriety and causes a lot of pain for those around her.

Paltrow says she had trouble understanding how a person gets to that point, wrecking others lives and going on as if nothing happened, so she called on her good friend, Robert Downey Jr. to give her some help. Downey’s troubles with substance abuse have been legendary over the years and the Iron Man actor was the perfect person to help Paltrow get to the heart and mind of an addict.

The actress said:

“…Then it was really when I got there and I had this scene, it’s sort of trimmed down a lot in the movie, but the night after I’ve done some horrific thing, I’ve wrecked people’s lives and I wake up and expect to just keep on going. I didn’t understand that. I understand addiction. I used to be very addicted to cigarettes for example, so I understood the idea of I know this is bad for me and it causes cancer and my dad has throat cancer but I’m going to smoke it anyway, that disconnect or self destructiveness. I couldn’t understand it to the point of wrecking someone else’s life. So I e-mailed Robert Downey Jr. and I was like, “Just explain to me how this goes. I don’t get it. You spend a night where you lie and cheat and there’s no consequence and you barf and you can kill someone. Then you get up and have a coffee? How does that work?” He wrote me back the most amazing e-mail and he just explained the psychology of it so well. So he really helped me with that.”

Paltrow’s performance, along with costars Garrett Hedlund, Leighton Meester and Tim McGraw opens in limited release today (Dec 22nd) and goes to more screens in January.

Happy holiday news for Ali Larter and her husband, Hayes MacArthur as they welcome a baby boy.

On December 20th, Ali’s rep confrims the actress gave birth to Theodore Hayes. The Heroes star and son are doing fine and all are healthy.

Larter, 34 and MacArthur, 33 married in 2009 after being together for seven years. This is the couple’s first child.

Congratulations to the new parents.

Credit card debt, fat drifters as Santa and shopping way to early in the morning all get the bothered treatment.

Dawn Holland, the technician at the Betty Ford clinic who alleges Lindsay Lohan assaulted her, has had her employment terminated. In a statemnt to TMZ, the treatment center says confidentiality cannot be broken and because of that, Holland was let go:

“Regrettably, on December 21, 2010, one of our employees violated strict confidentiality guidelines and laws by publicly identifying patients in a media interview and by disclosing a privileged document.”

The statement goes on, “The employee has been terminated by the Betty Ford Center.”

Whether Lindsay did assault her or not (see story here) is not the point here. A patient has the right to privacy and Holland, who made her complaint to the police (which is a valid way to go,) and should not have gone to the media.

Holland had other means to address any issues she had with her employer – like the California State Labor board (if for example she felt the Ford clinic did not provide her with adequate saftey procedures or fired her unjustly.)

Confidentiality doesn’t protect people from criminal prosecution for their acts, but it does protect a person’s private (especially medical information) information from being thrown about willy-nilly.

Holland tells TMZ she went to them because “the story was already out there.” The alleged incident happened on December 12th and didn’t blow sky high until Holland began freely chatting with the media.

I don’t like that this person thought it was ok to go to the press before exhausting other options.

I’m not sure with the low viewership this is considered a spoiler, so here goes…

ABC reality/competition show Skating With The Stars crowned it’s first (and likely last) winner on Tuesday night. The final two contestants: Real Housewives alum Bethenny Frankel went up against All My Children actress Rebecca Budig for the Golden Skates and Budig took the win.

“I’m shocked, really I am!,’ she said. ‘Bethenny and I were talking about it, really…I’m just shocked. I owe all of this to Fred [Palascak, her skating pro partner] who is an unbelievable teacher.

The show debuted after Dancing with the Stars finale and has dropped viewers to a ratings low of just over 3 million – respectable if it was on cable – dismal on a major network. It does not make it likely that ABC will give it another season.

However, that shouldn’t take away from the winner’s hard work. Congratulation to Rebecca.

TLC has a reality show gold mine in Sarah Palin’s Alaska. The exploits and escapades of the former Governor and one-time Vice Presidential running mate of Senator John McCain has audiences tuning into to see her and her family as they battle nature and each other week to week.

Palin’s pulling viewers in to her cable show (her hour long broadcast mostly ranges in viewers from 2.5 to 4 million and is often the highest rated cable show for the hour,) and she will most likely be offered a second season.

“Sarah knows to strike when the iron is hot and started talking about season two right after the show debuted to huge numbers,” said a friend of Palin. “She knows that celebrities get millions of dollar for each episode of their shows and thinks she’s worth it too. Jennifer Aniston took home millions from ‘Friends’ and in Sarah’s eyes, she’s no different.”

PopEater is reporting that Palin is pulling in $250,000 per episode and wants a considerable pay hike. Will she get it? Is she worth it?

Don’t forget if she announces her candidacy for President, she would not be able to continue in the show (now if she has all the episodes filmed already, airing them could be a rating coup for the cable channel.)

Palin is smart about building her brand on television and I can’t image TLC not picking up her show for season 2 for any reason. Can you?

LeAnn Rimes shared some holiday cheer with her Twitter followers over the weekend.  She posted several sexy pictures of herself in a skimpy Santa costume.  Is she trying to rub it in to Dean Sheremet or what?  Or maybe just reminding Eddie Cibrian how good he’s got it?  LeAnn has a smoking hot body but I never thought her face was terribly pretty.  She makes a cute Santa Baby, though.

A chemical dependancy technician at the Betty Ford clinic claims actress Lindsay Lohan assaulted her on December 12th and the Palm Desert police are investigating.

Dawn Holland says the incident allegedly occurred as Lohan and two other patients were being scolded for returning from a bar past her curfew. Holland was called to administer a Breathalyzer test on the group but Lohan wasn’t having it.

According to Holland, Lohan was verbally abusive and she could smell alcohol on Lohan’s breath. Holland says she was phoning the authorities when Lohan “confronted her again and ripped the phone out of her hand, causing a severe sprain which caused Holland to go out on workers’ comp.”

Lindsay claims Holland grabbed her first and Holland denies this.

The police are investigating this as a criminal battery case.

Lohan was ordered into rehab as part of her DUI sentance and has been in treatment since September 28th.
