J.J. Abrams might be the only person who can make a notoriously haunted place even creepier.

Using the infamous prison as a backdrop for his latest production with FOX, Abrams is taking a police drama and giving it a paranormal twist for Alcatraz. Veteran actor Sam Neill has jumped on board to costar with Sarah Jones, Jonny Coyne and LOST alum Jorge Garcia who are pursuing prisoners and guards that disappeared during the time the penitentiary was active only reappear years later through time travel.

If FOX pairs this with Abrams other spooky thriller Fringe it could be one intriguing night on television.

Neill Blomkamp, director of District 9, is shoring up stars for his next big screen project Elysium. D9 star Sharlto Copley is signed and coming back to work with Blomkamp and he’s got a big time movie star in negotiations to step into the film – Matt Damon.

Plot details for “Elysium” are still being kept under wraps, but the rumor is that it takes place on a distant planet in the far future. The film will still deal with the sociopolitical topics that “District 9″ did, but played out on a different stage.

There are a couple of significant firsts about this project. This is the first sci-fi movie Damon has worked on and Blomkamp is getting his first bona-fide A-list actor if Damon does indeed ink a deal.

I hope Damon does come aboard – I’d like to see what this pair can bring to theater.

Billy Ray Cyrus is unhappy.

Yesterday his daughter Miley Cyrus was the subject of a video leaked to website TMZ showing her taking a hit off a bong five days after her 18th birthday. The substance she is smoking is not thought to be marijuana but the legal herb salvia. (See the photo here.) Miley is completely aware of the camera – looking directly at her friend that is filming – while laughing and talking nonsense at one point.

Billy Ray, who is currently divorcing Miley’s mom Tish, was absent from his daughter’s Hollywood birthday celebration at LA hotspot Trousdale in November and apparently is catching up with his daughter on the internet – just like the rest of us. Mister Cyrus took to his twitter to express his disappointment:

While he doesn’t come out and say it’s about Miley and the video, he only posts a message or two every few days. The timing makes the response pretty clear what he is referring to.

Does this make you wonder about Tish? Is she Dina Lohan lite? Is Billy Ray posturing? Is this Much Ado About Miley?

Pamela Anderson grabs a seat in Liverpool, England for the stage production of Aladdin, the children’s pantomime at the Empire Theater on opening night, December 10th. Anderson is the genie in the holiday production and spends a fair bit of her time hoisted up and down over the stage while seated on a large silver ring.

I’ll say this for her – she looks great while doing it!

TNT’s popular police procedural, The Closer will end it’s reign of interrogation in 2011. Star Kyra Sedgewick has made the call and quit the quirky Brenda Johnson character. From the official press release:

TNT Announces Final Season of Landmark Hit THE CLOSER

TNT’s long-running, breakout hit THE CLOSER will wrap up its phenomenal run with a final season in 2011. The difficult decision to conclude the series with season seven was made by Kyra Sedgwick, the Emmy-winning star of THE CLOSER.

“It’s impossible to fully express our appreciation to Kyra Sedgwick, series creator James Duff and all of the other talented people who brought THE CLOSER to TNT viewers,” said Steve Koonin, president of Turner Entertainment Networks. “THE CLOSER was a pivotal series in setting a new course for TNT’s original programming, while also serving as a prime example of the storytelling strength possible on cable television.”

“I cannot fathom how difficult it will be to say goodbye to the incredible family we’ve created on THE CLOSER,” Sedgwick said. “I will always be grateful to James Duff for his love and friendship, as well as for creating such a rich and complex character who I have loved living with year after year. Mike, Greer, Rick and all of our outstanding cast and crew are forever in my heart. I want to thank TNT and Warner Bros. Television, as well as the incredible fans of THE CLOSER, for all of their unwavering support over the last seven years.”

Season 6 is currently airing and the final shows for season 7 will be hit TNT in 2011.

The Biggest Loser is shedding more than just pounds.

Tough-as-nails trainer Jillian Michaels sent word out on her twitter that she is leaving the weight loss reality show at the end of this season. Michaels responded to a few people asking her about the rumor and her replacement:

season 11 of Biggest Loser will be my last have to finish out my contract.
they already hired her. Using my last season to help launch her in season 11

Michaels says she plans to take a year off to “focus on becoming a mommy and do more charity work.”

NBC has not confirmed or issued a statement and she did not say who will be replacing her.

Shakira shook the rafters in Berlin, Germany at the O2 World for her concert on December 9th. The Colombian “She-Wolf” gave her hips a work out as she shimmied through her hits including “Hips Don’t Lie” and “Waka Waka” and the crowd loved every second of it.

Victoria’s Secret annually produces one very expensive jewel-encrusted bra. The 2010 edition, the $2 million Bombshell Fantasy Bra paled in comparison next to super hot Adriana Lima. The model headed to Woodfield Mall outside Chicago in Schaumburg, Illinois where the undergarment (and the Brazilian babe) were on display for a few hours on December 8th.

Lima, gorgeous hair slightly tousled, wore a bright red dress while the white sparkly bra, faded in the background next to the model. The Damiani Jewelry designed bra included 60 carats of diamonds and 82 carats of sapphires and topazes was the same design worn by Adriana for the annual VS show in November.

Taylor Lautner is attached to star in the upcoming film Incarceron.

It’s been quiet in the Taylor Lautner camp for the past couple months. That’s because he’s been busy, first shooting the thriller Abduction with director John Singleton, and now shooting the first of two parts of the final Twilight film, Breaking Dawn.

But with Twilight‘s end approaching, he’s in a position to continue lining up projects. One is an adaptation of Catherine Fisher‘s novel Incarceron, set in a massive futuristic prison.

He’s not really a dynamic actor as far as I can tell, maybe he’ll change that. Of course the Twilight movies aren’t exactly a platform for high caliber performances. It’ll be interesting to see if he can manage to keep his shirt on.
