Hugh Laurie Is GQ Dapper

The very sexy and camera-shy Hugh Laurie grabbed the cover of French GQ for January 2011.

The actor is in his seventh season playing Dr. Gregory House on the FOX hit show House, M.D. but Laurie is still surprised by the longevity of the series saying:

“When I auditioned, I thought that within two weeks it would all be over. I had not imagined that seven years later, we would still be here. At the same time, it was a good script with a complex role. I appreciated the series in its entirety: clever, funny, with the ability to express different tones. Sometimes witty, dramatic, funny, other times clownish. I found that original, I understood the character.”

Hugh is scheduled to attend the People’s Choice Awards 2011 on January 5th along with costar Lisa Edelstein.

Sir Elton John “Fulfilled A Dream” Becoming A Father

Sir Elton John and his husband, David Furnish became proud fathers this Christmas to Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John via a surrogate mother on Christmas day.

John said the pair are thrilled and it’s a dream come true:

“We have fulfilled a dream in finally becoming parents, and are so happy and excited at this very special time. Zachary is a gorgeous little baby and we are so proud of him.”

John also said he and Furnish were quick to agree on their little one’s name:

“A friend gave us a book of baby names, and we started to flick through it, but we have always loved the name Zachary and kept coming back to it. In the end, we looked at each other, and put the book back on shelf, and said, “This is it!’”

John and Furnish are very happy indeed.

What’s Up With Kanye & Kim Kardashian In The Studio?

Kanye West and Kim Kardashian may be working on a video together.

West and Kardashian were spotted (separately) entering a studio in Culver City on Tuesdsay and Wednesday this week. Super music video director Hype Williams apparently joined the music and reality stars in what is assumed to be a video shoot.

Kim K tweeted some fairly cryptic info:

“OMG you guys have no idea what I’m doing today! you are gonna die!!!! What should my alter ego name be?”

and later in the day she posted:

“What an amazing day!!! I’m finished for today…but we have a few more to go! Can’t Twitpic just yet, but will soon.”

OK Kim, spill it! We all want to know what’s up!

‘Casper’ Reboot in the Works

A remake of the film Casper is in the works from Universal.

Classic Media, who now owns the rights to Casper, the Friendly Ghost is talking to Amblin and Universal about getting a new live-action Casper flick off the ground…

…In 2009 the comic Casper and the Spectrals was published. Like recent Batman and Superman offerings, it revamped Casper’s story – and the characters – hoping to draw in a fresh, new audience. One would imagine the new film would follow suit.

Classic also owns the rights to every other Harvey Comics character, including Little Dot, and is looking at bringing them to cinemas. Casper, though, is seemingly their main priority at the moment – and no surprise, it’s their top draw.

It’s hard to believe that thirteen years have passed since the first live-action Casper. Of course they would have to remake it in 3D, might as well. It’s all about profit, franchises like Casper, Yogi and The Smurfs are a sure bet. Hopefully they manage to create something that marks a generation for the franchise instead of pandering to a mindless moneymaking plot.

In Memoriam: Celebrities We Lost In 2010

As we reflect back on the last year in showbiz, let’s take a moment to pause and remember the celebrities who left us in 2010.    They entertained us, made us laugh and cry and sometimes roll our eyes, and often inspired us as well.  Here are just a few.

Casey Johnson (September 24, 1979 – January 4, 2010).  The Johnson & Johnson heiress, socialite and woman of questionable taste (Tila Tequila, seriously?) died of complications related to diabetes.

Alexander McQueen (March 17, 1969 – February 11, 2010).  The fashion world lost an icon and creative genius with McQueen’s suicide shortly following his mother’s death. Wardrobes of the rich and famous will never be the same.

Corey Haim (December 23, 1971 – March 10, 2010).  Haim really was a Lost Boy, his addiction to prescription medication and death a cautionary tale for child stars.  We’ll never forget how those Tiger Beat covers made our hearts flutter.

Lynn Redgrave (March 8, 1943 – May 2, 2010).  The veteran British actress and multi-award winner was renowned for her talent on both sides of the pond.  She is buried in the same cemetery as her niece, Natasha Richardson.

Gary Coleman (February 8, 1968 – May 28, 2010).  Whatchu talkin’ ’bout, Willis?  After a life of legal, financial and personal troubles, this small guy with a big personality died of a brain hemorrhage.  His death was finally ruled accidental in October.

Dennis Hopper (May 17, 1936 – May 29, 2010).  This Easy Rider rode off into the sunset this year, leaving behind a body of creative work that included acting, directing, photography, painting and poetry.

Rue McClanahan (February 21, 1934 – June 3, 2010).  The Emmy-winning Golden Girl began her career in the 1950s, moving quickly from the stage to television and back to Broadway before succumbing to a stroke at age 76.

Barbara Billingsley (December 22, 1915 – October 16, 2010).   Billingsley was the very definition of 1950s motherhood as June Cleaver in Leave It To Beaver.  We’ll never forget her doing housework in pearls and heels, nor her jive talking role in Airplane!

Leslie Nielsen (February 11, 1926 – November 28, 2010).  Surely you can’t be serious?  I am serious, and don’t call me Shirley.  Nielsen had a monster career, appearing in over 100 films and hundreds of television shows (over 50 in 1950 alone!!), right up until a year before his death.

Elizabeth Edwards (July 3, 1949 – December 7, 2010).  Attorney, author, mother and estranged wife of John Edwards, Elizabeth was the definition of stalwart grace and class up until the very end of her life.

Teena Marie (March 5, 1956 – December 26, 2010).  Oooh La La La…. The “Ivory Queen of Soul” was an R&B angel.  Surely she and Rick James are kickin’ it in the afterlife now.

‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ Blackbeard’s Flag (Image)

Here’s a fresh new image of Blackbeard’s flag from the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides producer Jerry Bruckheimer today tweeted this photo of Blackbeard’s flag flying high on the movie’s Queen Anne’s Revenge. Blackbeard is played by Ian McShane, who stars opposite Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, Kevin R. McNally, Astrid Berges-Frisbey, Sam Claflin and Geoffrey Rush. Directed by Rob Marshall, the action adventure sails into 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D theaters on May 20.

I like the blood oozing from the skull’s mouth, but doesn’t it look like the flag was made in photoshop? Doesn’t scream period piece to me, but the trailer for this movie didn’t make it look all that appealing either. This one feels like a last ditch effort to milk a little more money out of the franchise.

David Schwimmer’s ‘Trust’ Keeps R-Rating After Appeal for PG-13

David Schwimmer directed a film called Trust that was given an R-rating. He appealed to the MPAA to have it changed to a PG-13 but it will remain an R-rated movie.

Citing “disturbing material involving the rape of a teen, language, sexual content and some violence,” the Classification and Rating Appeals Board upheld the R rating given Trust. The David Schwimmer-directed film for Millennium Entertainment is a drama about a family’s struggle to deal with tragedy after their underage daughter is lured by an online predator and attacked. Schwimmer wanted a PG-13 rating and argued that the film is a cautionary tale that should be seen by teens who could be vulnerable to such approaches. The appeal was argued by executive producer and financier Avi Lerner as well as George Gale, the veep of post-production for Nu Image, which produced the film. Schwimmer told Deadline he did not want to cut the films, but he will have to if he doesn’t want to release the film with an R. The film stars Clive Owen, Catherine Keener and Viola Davis.

Regardless of the cautionary message that lies underneath, if you’re portraying rape I wouldn’t want my 13 year old to be able to see that without prior approval. What do you think? Should the MPAA have changed the rating so teens can see the dangers of online dating?

Demi Lovato ‘Avengers’ Role Is Not True

Contrary to internet rumors, Disney star Demi Lovato is not up for a role in The Avengers, to be directed by Joss Whedon and set to start shooting this spring.

The Sonny with a Chance starlet entered rehab outside of Chicago, Illinois in November for “emotional and physical reasons” after Lovato decked back-up dancer Alex Welch.

Two reasons she is not being considered: she’s still in rehab and she has her own show to work on when she gets out. While Lovato was allowed to leave the center on Christmas day, the length of her stay is still undetermined. Disney has arranged filming of her show Sonny, to begin in mid January with the other cast members to give her time to finish her treatment.

The planned Marvel comics big screen adaptation currently has Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man,) Scarlett Johannsson (Black Widow,) Samuel Jackson (Nick Fury,) Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye,) Mark Ruffalo (The Hulk) Chris Evans (Captain America) and Chris Hemsworth (Thor) all inked to the film.

Nicole Richie’s Probation Is Over Early (Sorta)

Nicole Richie is getting a gold star from the judge for her good behavior.

Richie’s probation from her DUI arrest in 2006 was set to end in February 2011, but the judge in her case decided the socialite has completed the terms of her sentence satisfactorily and ended her probation early today.

In reality, Richie had her probation extended to February because she did not attend her court ordered alcohol education classes in June of this year. Richie’s lawyer (and Lindsay Lohan’s too) Shawn Chapman Holley, told the court Nicole found it difficult to find the time while raising two kids.

Whatever the reason, she managed to finally make it happen and received praise from the program so she is over and out.

Prince William & Kate Middleton To Manage On Their Own

A quiet cottage away from prying eyes is the life for Prince William and Kate Middleton. The engaged couple is planning to live as normally as possible for a future king and queen and that means no servants.

While stationed near Anglesey for the three remaining years he will be in the RAF as a search and rescue pilot, William and his fiance, Kate are kickin’ it old school: cooking, cleaning and shopping for themselves.

They do have a 24-hour security detail that won’t be going anywhere but for the first few years of their marriage, William and Kate will have a place of refuge from the hubbub of Royal life.

“Prince William is not into extravagance and, like any other young officer in the armed forces, that is how he chooses to live his life. He and Catherine live without domestic staff and they wouldn’t do it any other way. That’s the life they want to lead.

“The Prince is committed to his career at RAF Valley until 2013 and he wants his wife by his side during that time.”

William is keen to avoid having anyone too close to Kate who can betray her, the way his mother, Princess Diana’s butler Paul Burrell did after her death. Also on his mind, William’s father, Prince Charles takes a beating in the public eye for employing close to 150 servants for his daily needs.

I hope they get these three years to themselves. It will be a great way for them to start their marriage and probably one of the only times they will have true privacy.
