Sir Elton John has received a bundle of joy for the holidays.

John, 62 and husband David Furnish, 48 are proud fathers to a 7 lb 15 oz healthy baby boy. Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John was born by surrogate mother on Christmas day in California.

“We are overwhelmed with happiness and joy at this very special moment,” the couple, who exchanged vows in a civil ceremony in 2005, said in a statement. “Zachary is healthy and doing really well, and we are very proud and happy parents.”

This is happy news for the pair who tried to adopt an HIV positive child from the Ukraine but were denied because of John’s age and marital status.

James Franco & His Grandmother: FunnyOrDie Video

James Franco and his grandmother poked some holiday fun at the reactions people have to Franco’s film 127 Hours.

In the film, Franco is a stranded hiker who’s arm is trapped under a rock and he performs an amputation on himself. It is unsettling for some and a few movie goers have fainted during the intense scene.

The studio launched a campaign “I Kept My Eyes Open For 127 Hours” and Franco’s family is decked out in the slogan shirts.

But Franco’s grandmother steals the show when asked what she thought of people who couldn’t stomach it. She says “I think they’re a bunch of p*****s!”

Check the FunnyOrDie video under and if you’re at work, lower the volume at the end. (Read the article)

Hilary Swank Designs New Athletic Clothing Line

Here’s someone I never thought would jump on the celebrity designer bandwagon:  Hilary Swank.   She is collaborating with  DMA Designers Management Agency on a line of athletic wear.

According to the company, the idea started as just a T-shirt line that

“would inspire people to hit the gym, but the concept soon evolved into an entire collection.”

So I’m kind of skeptical that any kind of T-shirt could get people to go work out, but I am curious to see Hilary’s designw.  I imagine her aesthetic to be very clean and un-fussy.  I guess we shall soon see!

And oh, by the way – Hilary has also just been nominated for a SAG Award for portraying Betty Ann Waters in Conviction.  Best of luck to her on both fronts!

Celebrities Mourn ‘Ivory Queen Of Soul’ Teena Marie

The sudden death of R&B singer Teena Marie this weekend has rocked the music world.  Singers and other celebrities voiced their sorrow on Twitter in tribute to the “Ivory Queen of Soul.” Here’s a sampling of their Tweets.

Mary J. Blige:

‘Rest in peace Teena Marie. My Love for u is forever.’

‘Teena Marie??????Why???? how??? ;-(

‘God bless Teena Marie and her Family! Sending Blessings and prayers. I was just saying that Fire And Desire is one of the most beautifully performed songs.’

Marie, whose real name was Mary Christine Brockert, is survived by her daughter, Alia Rose. She made her debut in 1979 on Motown Records. She is particularly noted for having written, produced and arranged nearly every one of her songs since 1980.   Reports indicate that she died in her sleep, of natural causes.

Enjoy the following tribute to Teena Marie:  my favorite song of hers, ‘Square Biz.’

Bryan Singer’s ‘Jack the Giant Killer’ Goes All Natural

Bryan Singer (X-Men, X-Men II) is directing a new film Jack the Giant Killer and he’s planning to use a lot of natural light instead of the usual extreme hollywood lighting. He talked about his plans for the film, check it out:

I’m very much looking forward to using the EPIC Red for my next movie Jack the Giant Killer which will be shot in, what else, 3D. The camera’s incredibly compact size and extraordinary resolution are ideal for the 3D format.

But more importantly Jack the Giant Killer is my first movie set in a time before electricity. The EPIC’s extraordinary exposure latitude will allow me to more effectively explore the use of natural light.

Supposedly the movie is kind of an adult version of the original Jack and the Beanstalk. I’m always impressed by Singer‘s work, I’m sure this will be a continuation of that. He’s already stepped into the realm of the period piece with Valkyrie so I’m sure this will be a good one too.
