Yvonne Strahovski is the latest celeb to jump on the sexy PETA bandwagon.   Dressed as an angel, she asks people to “be an angel for animals” by adopting pets from shelters rather than buying them from stores or breeders.    Starring with her in the ad are her own dogs, Chazzie and Wilbur – who were, naturally, rescued from shelters themselves.

Yvonne is passionate about the cause.  She said:

“I think it’s really important that people become aware of the amount, the mass of animals that are sitting in shelters as opposed to people going out and just buying puppies that are being bred.   There are just so many dogs that are just as gorgeous―whether they’re mixed or purebred or whatever―they’re all gorgeous, and they all have personalities, and they all need a home.”

Sometimes I think PETA goes a little too far, but on this point I think they are right on the money.   I hate the idea of animals dying in shelters, and after seeing dogs that were rescued from a puppy farm, I could never buy an animal that was bred that way.   Go Yvonne – thanks for bringing attention to this issue.

The long talked about Total Recall movie is finally a reality. The film is set to shoot in March 2011 and is likely to star Colin Farrell in the lead role.

What won’t be announced is that the huge state-of-the-art, waterfront studio has already landed the biggest-budget movie ever to be shot in Toronto. Total Recall, a $200 million remake of the 1990 megahit, is set to begin filming here in March.

Sources say Pinewood Toronto has signed the deal with Columbia Pictures. According toVariety, the Hollywood trade paper, Columbia has offered Colin Farrell the role made famous by Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Colin Farrell seems like a pretty good choice, but he’s nothing like Arnold. This is one of those remakes that I’m a bit confused about, but I guess with technology today it will look really cool. Unfortunately modern Hollywood execs seem too scared to try completely original scripts with lots of money. Instead opting to remake and remake movies since they are practically guaranteed to make cash.

Here’s the first poster and (non red band) trailer for the upcoming comedy Your Highness starring Natalie Portman, James Franco and Danny McBride.

This movie still looks funny without the red band trailer. I really liked Pineapple Express and the addition of Natalie Portman to the mix should make it that much better. Apart from being a powerful and gripping actor, she’s also incredibly funny. This movie should be a treat.

Ten people were arrested for movie, music, and apparel piracy in Los Angeles yesterday. $4.06 million worth of the illegal merchandise was seized.

An anti-piracy task force called Operation Chimney Sweep involving L.A. police and sheriffs arrested 10 people and seized $4.06 million worth of counterfeit movies, music and apparel, L.A. city controller Wendy Greuel announced Wednesday during a news conference.

The arrests were made by dozens of officers who worked with private industry investigators to make raids throughout Los Angeles.

Larry Hahn, director of U.S. content protection for the MPAA, thanked the city and the LAPD for their “sustained commitment to curbing piracy,” as did Marcus Cohen, director of investigations in the Western Region for the music industry trade organization RIAA.

This definitely puts a spotlight on the fact that piracy is definitely not taken lightly. Those FBI warnings before movies are no joke, although this wasn’t the FBI in this case (it was LAPD). Of course with ticket prices on the rise again in the box office, more and more people in a bad economy are likely to steal their entertainment. Would you buy a $2 copy of a movie that’s still in theaters from somebody on the street?

This movie looks compelling and intense. Liam Neeson is such a diverse talent, I always pay attention when he’s involved with a project. This movie certainly draws some similarities in style and substance as Taken but definitely looks good on it’s own.

Years in the wrestling ring have taken a toll on Hulk Hogan’s back and the former professional wrestler has endured a lengthy spinal surgery to repair the damage.

Terry Bollea (Hulk’s real name) entered a hospital in Tampa, Florida to have the operation on Tuesday December 21st. Hogan’s procedure lasted 10 hours but the physically fit athlete is doing remarkably well. A source told RadarOnline:

“It was a pretty lengthy surgical procedure. Doctors did some fusion work and rebuilding and restructuring of the spine. But he’s recovering smoothly.”

Hogan should begin physical therapy shortly and is expected to be released in a few days.

Ditzy and charming as Cheerio Brittany Pierce on Glee, Heather Morris has caught the eye of casting directors for the reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Morris said:

“They’re considering me! I found out and I almost peed my pants ’cause I was so excited!”

This new version will not have Buffy in high school and does not include creator Joss Whedon in any capacity. Whedon and the TV cast are said to be unhappy with Warner Bros. decision to re-imagine the Buffyverse.

Former Friends star David Schwimmer and his wife, photographer Zoe Buckman are expecting a baby.

Buckman, 24, and Schwimmer, 44, met in London when the actor was directing his feature film Run, Fatboy Run! in 2007.

The couple married in June of this year and this will be their first child.

The Grammy Awards have announced the recipients of the 2011 Lifetime Achievement Awards. Julie Andrews, Dolly Parton and The Ramones will be among the celebrated group honored for their body of work.

Andrews is best known from musical theater and the movie productions of Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music catapulted her to international fame.

Parton, a country music legend with a larger-than-life personality, starred in and sang the title track from the movie 9 to 5 and was the songwriter on (and originally recorded) Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You,” which remains one of the best selling singles of all time.

The Ramones are punk legends who never won a Grammy. “Blitzkreig Bop” and “Pet Cemetary” are two of their most mainstream songs. Unfortunately founding members Joey, Dee Dee and Johnny Ramone all died within three years of each other.

Other honorees include jazz drummer Roy Haynes, the Julliard String Quartet, The Kingston Trio and gospel singer George Beverly Shea.

These trophies will be handed out February 12th, the day before the televised broadcast.
