‘All My Children’ Star Debbi Morgan Battling Lyme Disease
Debbie Morgan has been off of the popular daytime soap All My Children since December and fans have wondered why. The statement released at the time said the actress was on leave to “resolve a personal matter.”
The Emmy winning star who plays Dr. Angie Hubbard spoke to the Tom Joyner Morning Program and revealed she is battling Lyme disease.
“I had to take a leave of absence because I was diagnosed with Lyme disease,” Morgan said on the radio show. “It’s nothing fatal. Lyme disease is an infection caused by the Borrelia bacteria from a tick. It’s a chronic condition, and I’ve had it in my system for over 15 years.”
Morgan believes that her two pit bulls had ticks and that is how she became infected. Lyme disease can have serious joint, heart and nervous system repercussions if left untreated but can be managed with antibiotics.
The 54 year-old actress is feeling better and will return to the soap in the first week of March.

Lyme Disease is not rare. Until our society comes to terms with that, the endless stories like Debbie’s will continue. It is often misdiagnosed or improperly treated at the onset. The guidelines for treatment of Lyme Disease are insufficient and the testing is very inaccurate; until measures are taken to change these things, more and more will continue to suffer and become chronic. It is time to take the medical proof and evidence and use it and not base the treatment guidelines on merely opinion. Look at ILADS.org or California Lyme Disease Association’s website for some very helpful information. It is time to protect our children and make a difference. Gather together and ask for a change in the testing procedures and treatment guidelines.
im in a wheelchairafter three infusions of tysabry a ms drug that was given to me because all my lyme tests from hospital came neg so my nero treated me for ms,i got brain inflamation after the third month and was sent to the er for five days of iv steriods after i came home from the hospital i no longer could climb staires or lift either of my legs,WHYbecause steriods spread my lyme disease all over my body,i finally went to a lyme doctor who sent my blood to igenex in calif and got a positive for lyme and cdc positive, never take steriods when you suspect lyme!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am sorry for Debbie and hope she can get it under control. Unfortunately people do die from it though. A young father from my support group died just a couple weeks ago from it. In my online support group I see about one person a week pass away from it. It is an epidemic being ignored, but with famous people like Debbie coming forward about it, maybe that will change.
If this woman manages to go back to work and be fully healthy again after only three months of treatment, that would be quite a miracle. Most people with chronic lyme are prescribed a minimum of one year of antibiotics, and for many, even that does not solve their grave health issues. I have dealt with chronic lyme (which I only had for two years prior to diagnosis) naturally, sans antibiotics, and am recovering now after a half year of treatment. The notion that it is an easily managed disease, let alone one easily managed with a short term course of drugs, is not generally a true one.
Debbie,. just have faith and god will see you through this illness. I miss you on ALL MY CHILDRENS.
