New Blu-ray Releases February 1st, 2011: Full List

Blu-ray is the new standard, DVD is on its way out and every week they are releasing many films on the relatively new format. Here’s the full list of Blu-ray movies out this week on February 1st, 2011.

The highlight this week is the horror remake Let me In, which I haven’t seen yet. I saw the original foreign film (Let the Right One In) and was thoroughly impressed, I’ve heard the new version is excellent as well. Nothing else excited me this week in terms of new releases, just more stuff that should have been out on Blu-ray already.

Katherine Heigl Set to Replace Halle Berry in ‘New Year’s Eve’

Katherine Heigl is going to replace Halle Berry in the upcoming comedy New Year’s Eve from director Gary Marshall.

Given her track record for participating in only the dullest and most by-the-numbers romantic comedies ever since breaking out in Knocked Up,Katherine Heigl has given us all yet another reason to avoidNew Year’s Eve. According to Deadline Heigl will be replacing Halle Berry in the omnibus romantic comedy, a follow-up to last year’s Valentine’s Day that will also be directed by Garry Marshall.

Not news that doesn’t make me feel any level of loss or gain. Although I’d rather look at Halle than Katherine, I probably won’t see this movie anyway.

‘Sixteen Candles’ Back in Theaters for Valentine’s Day

AMC is bringing Sixteen Candles back to theaters for Valentines Day this year.

AMC Theatres, a leading theatrical exhibition and entertainment company, is proud to partner with Universal Pictures to offer guests the chance to see the hit romantic comedy SIXTEEN CANDLES for a limited time, exclusively in more than 150 theatres.

It’s a good idea, I’m sure plenty of people will head out to see it on Valentines Day. Especially since there aren’t many romantic offerings being released in February.

‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Shoots in May

The Dark Knight Rises is set to begin principle photography in early May 2011.

The Dark Knight Rises begins principle photography some time in early May. Coming Soon caught Nolan at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival where he laid down the first real timeline we’ve heard for the sequel, saying of the movie and his collaboration with co-writer David Goyer: “We’ve worked on it a long time – David Goyer and myself. We’re about 12 weeks away from shooting. We start in May.”

Finally this incredibly highly anticipated sequel is on it’s way, I can’t wait to hear what this story is going to be. I think The Dark Knight was one of the best crime dramas in years. Hopefully this one can keep pace.

Pop-Up ‘Peep World’ Poster With Michael C. Hall

Here’s the poster for the upcoming Comedy Peep World.

On the day of their Father’s 70th birthday party, four siblings come to terms with the publication of a novel written by the youngest sibling, that exposes the family’s most intimate secrets.

I love Michael C. Hall as Dexter, and to be honest, I’ve never seen him do anything else. It might be too hard to separate him from that amazing character. The movie sounds funny though! Not to mention Sarah Silverman and Rainn Wilson are in it!

Helena Bonham Carter 2011 SAG Awards

The 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on Sunday January 30th with Helena Bonham Carter hitting the red carpet for the 2011 SAG ceremony.

Bonham Carter chose a black and white Marc Jacobs Resort lace dress for the event (she does love her lace!) and this look was much more subdued than she has worn in the past. I love her off beat fashion choices – she has a unique sense of style and she makes the red carpets interesting.
