Season 2 of The Vampire Diaries has been the build up to meeting Klaus, the paranoid and fearsome Original Vampire that is out to sacrifice Elena (Nina Dobrev.)
A great deal of well-known actors’ names had been tossed around for the coveted part (seriously – name the last part for a previously unseen/original character that has gotten this much press?) and Joseph Morgan is the winner.
Who, you might ask, is this Morgan fellow? A British actor who has had parts in the Brit TV shows Doc Martin and Hex, he’s also had a roles in the movies Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World with Russell Crowe and Alexander with Colin Farrell and Angelina Jolie and will be seen in the upcoming Immortals with new Superman Henry Cavill and Twilight vampire Kellan Lutz.
On who they would chose for this role, executive producer Julie Plec has said:
“That’s what excites me: This idea that there might be somebody out there that no one’s really familiar with yet that can be a new fresh face that we can exploit…in all the good ways,” she said. “The big important elements of this character are charisma and gravitas. You’ve got to be able to be afraid of this guy, whether you’re afraid of him because he looks scary or because he’s so charming that the fact that he can snap your neck with his pinky would take you by surprise.”
I am definitely looking forward to his interaction with Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley, Matt Davis and David Anders in particular.
Morgan will make his first appearance on TVD on April 21st. After this week’s new episode Thursday, February 24th, the show goes on the infamous (and terrible, btw!) CW hiatus for a month and won’t return until April 7th with new episodes.
