‘Iron Man 3′ Gets New Director Shane Black

Since the announcement that John Favereau would not return to direct Iron Man 3 many directors have been considered, finally one has be chosen. Shane Black (Writer of Lethal Weapon 1 and 2 and The Last Boy Scout) is now set to direct Iron Man 3.

The ever secretive Marvel Studios is in final negotiations with Shane Black to direct Iron Man 3 set to be released on May 3, 2013. As you know, IM1 and IM2 director Jon Favreau begged off to helm Magic Kingdom at Disney so his relationship with the franchise ran its course.

I’m glad to hear they finally settled on a director. He’s only directed one other movie (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) but he’s highly respected in the action film world for his writing. I think he’s a great choice, especially since he and Robert Downey Jr. have an established working relationship. Now the question is weather or not Black will be the writer of the sequel as well. My guess is yes.

Tragic, Touching and Intense ‘Dead Island’ Trailer

Here is the incredible trailer for the upcoming video game Dead Island.

WARNING! EXTREME GRAPHIC VIOLENCE! 17+ ONLY!

I don’t usually post game trailers but this is one of the best trailers I’ve ever seen, it actually brought tears to my eyes (no small feat). It’s certainly not for the faint of heart, but its worth a watch if you want to see how trailers for movies SHOULD be. My guess is that this one will eventually be made into a feature film, especially if the story is as intense as this trailer suggests.

Disney Announces ‘Cars’ Spin-Off ‘Planes’

Disney officially announced a straight-to-Blu-ray release of Planes, a spin-off feature from the world of Cars.

Disney plans to spin off Pixar’s “Cars” franchise first with “Planes,” that features a cast of new airborne characters.

Film will be a direct-to-homevideo toon that will be followed up by projects that are built around other “stuff that kids absolutely love,” said Rich Ross, chairman of the Walt Disney Studios at the Mouse House investors conference in Anaheim.

“Planes” takes flight on Blu-ray and DVD in spring 2013.

It’s strange to me that this is a spin-off without being from Pixar. I guess if you own a company, you can use whatever you want to make new projects. I just wonder how the guys over at Pixar that created Cars feel about it. Disney used to do the straight to DVD spin-offs a lot, but have cut back drastically in recent years. I wasn’t a big fan of Cars in the first place, so my interest in this is next to none. But I’ll keep you posted anyway.

New ‘Adjustment Bureau’ Poster With Matt Damon

Here’s the latest poster for the upcoming movie The Adjustment Bureau starring Matt Damon.

This movie looks very intriguing, I love this kind of story. Movies that come out at this time of year tend to lean towards the poor side, but there are sometimes great exceptions. I’m hoping The Adjustment Bureau is as cool as it looks.

Alice Eve Cast in ‘Men in Black III’ Despite Delays

Alice Eve has been cast to star in the upcoming sequel Men in Black III even though the film’s production schedule has been delayed until March.

When Men in Black III re-starts production next month, Alice Eve will play the younger version of Men in Black Agency head Emma Thompson in the time travel storyline. The British actress plays Olivia, hired as secretary for the Agency in 1969. While it appears she was given the job because of her looks, Olivia is actually whip smart. Sure enough, in the contemporary storyline, Thompson runs the place. Will Smith’s Agent J character is forced to travel back in time to team up with the young Agent K (Josh Brolin) to save the world.

She’s gorgeous and probably a great addition to the project. Men in Black II was a complete waste of time in my opinion, here’s hoping the third will actually re-capture the magic of the first film.

Detroit to Erect ‘Robocop’ Statue After Twitter Suggestion

Last week a guy on Twitter suggested to the mayor of Detroit that the city erect a Robocop statue. Now that suggestion is becoming a reality!

Sometimes the internet is a pretty cool thing. It was just last week that someone suggested to the mayor of Detroit that the city build a statue of Robocop. He declined, but there was such response to the idea that other people picked up the idea. The Imagination Station offered a place for the statue, and a Kickstarter campaign was created to collect donations to cast a big metal Robocop.

The financial goal? $50,000, which was reached today. It took just a week to raise that money, thanks in part to a big donation from Pete Hottelet at Omni Consumer Products Corporation (yeah, that’s right) and more than 1700 other people who pledged cash.

Obviously Detroit needs to boost it’s public image. I’m not sure having a Robocop statue is going to make all that much of a difference but it certainly couldn’t hurt. If I’m ever in the city I’ll definitely go see it!

Adrianne Palicki Will Be ‘Wonder Woman’

Adrianne Palicki has landed the coveted role of Wonder Woman.

The new NBC version had David E. Kelley running the show which will be a nod to the 70s TV show starring Lynda Carter but will not be a campy send up.

Kelley’s update of Diana Prince will feature her lasso, invisible plane and cuffs but put her in the modern business world as a corporate executive and crime fighter.

The official synopsis:

The series pilot is a reinvention of the iconic DC Comics title in which Wonder Woman — a.k.a. Diana Prince — is a vigilante crime fighter in Los Angeles but also a successful corporate executive and a modern woman trying to balance all of the elements of her extraordinary life. Kelley and Bill D’Elia (Boston Legal, The Practice) are the executive producers. The pilot was written by Kelley and will be directed by Jeffrey Reiner (NBC’s The Event). Wonder Woman is from David E. Kelley Productions and Warner Bros. Television.

Palicki and her Friday Night Lights costar Minka Kelly have each landed high-profile pilots of rebooted series; Palicki as Wonder Woman and Kelly in the new of Charlie’s Angels.

Rachel Bilson Designs Dishes

Rachel Bilson landed on the cover of C magazine and dished about getting into the design business.

The actress decided on housewares instead of the typical fashion or jewelry enterprises most celebs endorse because she feels she has a unique take:

“To stick with fashion, that would be a little more predictable,” she says.

“But there’s no one in my demographic, or really any ‘celebrity’ who has a similar aesthetic as me, who’s doing home or tabletop design. I’m sort of obsessed with dishes,” Bilson told C magazine.

“I’m always cooking and baking at home, and I hate going out. I’d love to do bedding, too.”

The line is called Edie Rose Home by Rachel Bilson and includes vintage styled pieces. Macy’s debuted the tableware, manufactured by Fitz & Floyd with items ranging in price from $12 to $58.
