‘Monsters Inc.’ Sequel Titled ‘Monsters University’ Gets a Director

The Monsters, Inc. Sequel has officially been given the title Monsters University and today it secured it’s director.

Two days ago, we finally got a title, Monsters University, and a plot description, Mike and Sully meet and become friends, but now we have another wire in the scaring machine. Longtime Pixar story artist Dan Scanlon will helm the film. He’s previously handled the short Mater and Ghostlight, but it’ll be interesting to see what he does with more screen time.

I completely love the original Monster’s Inc. so this movie is one I’ve been looking forward to for a long time. I can’t wait to see how much better the world of the Monsters will look with modern animation technology. It’s been 10 years since the first film! Hard to believe it’s been that long but better late than never!

Steve Carell is Keira Knightley’s ‘Friend For The End of The World’

Steve Carell is set to star in the new movie Seeking a Friend for the End of the World. Keira Knightley is likely to be the female lead.

In what shapes up as his first feature project after leaving The Office, Steve Carell will star in Seeking A Friend For The End of The World. The film marks the directorial debut of its screenwriter, Lorene Scafaria. Keira Knightley is in negotiations for the female lead. Mandate Pictures and Indian Paintbrush will co-finance and production begins in May. The film takes place at a time when mankind is forced to absorb the fact that an incoming asteroid will end humanity. Carell plays a man suddenly alone when his wife leaves in a panic. His high school sweetheart writes him saying she wants to be with him when the world stops. His neighbor (Knightley) accompanies him on the road trip as love blooms at the worst possible time. Despite the doomsday climax, the film has a somewhat comic and romantic tone.

Kind of an odd pairing of actors for an odd story. The concept of the film is interesting enough, but it sounds like it could be a big downer if it’s not done right. We already know Steve Carell is perfectly capable of pulling off seriousness as well as over-the-top comedy so this should be a good fit for him. Seeking a Friend for the End of the World is a hefty title, I bet it will get shortened by the time it comes closer to release.

‘The Hangover Part II’ Full Trailer Continues The Chaos

Here’s the full trailer for the upcoming comedy sequel The Hangover Part II.

This movie looks like a complete re-packaging of the first movie, but that may not be a bad thing. The trailer definitely had me laughing, I hope it lives up to the first one. The monkey is already my favorite part of this movie. Look for The Hangover Part II in theaters on May 26th, 2011.

Will Ferrell Gets Serious with ‘Everything Must Go’ Trailer

Here’s the new trailer for the new film Everything Must Go starring Will Ferrell.

It’s strange seeing him take a serious tone, I wonder if this is something he’s going to do more and more. I know a lot of people who are pretty tired of his constant silly characters, maybe this movie will be enough to win them over. Unfortunately the only thing interesting about this movie to me is the fact that Ferrell is being serious, that’s not enough to make me want to watch it.

‘Pirates 5′ Already On It’s Way. Without Johnny Depp?

With the fourth installment Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides on the horizon, producer Jerry Bruckheimer announced that he already has a fifth movie on it’s way.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer says he has a screenplay in the works for a fifth Pirates tale after May’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides comes out.

Based on the Disney theme-park ride, the original threePirates blockbusters ended up as a trilogy continuing the same key characters and story line. Bruckheimer says On Stranger Tides and future Pirates flicks will be stand-alone stories continuing the adventures of Depp’s woozy buccaneer Capt. Jack Sparrow…

…At test screenings of On Stranger Tides, “the audience told us what they loved about it is that it was fresh, it was new, it was a whole new story,” Bruckheimer said in an interview alongside Marshall. “So that will carry over into the next one, too, to give it something fresh and different. As long as the audience embraces this one, we’ll certainly try to make another one. It’s really up to Johnny. He loves the character.”

The key concept here is that the movie being made is dependent on Johnny Depp agreeing to do it. He’s said specifically that On Stranger Tides will be his last movie in the Pirates world. I guess if Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides turns out to be really great there’s a chance Johnny will sign on for another movie. But it’s not like he doesn’t have other stuff going on to fill his time. Fortunately for Depp, Disney has deep pockets.

Carrie Underwood Is A ‘Soul Surfer’

Carrie Underwood hit the blue carpet for the premiere of Soul Surfer in Hollywood on Wednesday night (March 30th.)

The American Idol winner makes her acting debut (this was filmed before her small role in the TV sitcom How I Met Your Mother) in the film about Bethany Hamilton, the teenager who lost her left arm from a shark attack, who went on to become a pro surfer.

“I think the most challenging aspect of making this movie, for me, is just that I’ve never done it before. This is all very new to me. I know how to sing…This is something, I’m way out of my element,” she revealed.

The 28 year-old singer opted for a beige tiered dress with black print and side bow/puff from Zuhair Murad.

Vanessa Hudgens a long silk Alberta Ferretti gown with beaded neckline and open back. She had her hair pulled back into a loose updo for a lovely overall look.

Jesse James Leaks His Own Book Cover

Writing a memoir is, just by its nature, a pretty narcissistic endeavor.  I mean, you’re writing about yourself and your life; what could possibly be more self-centered?  I’ll tell you what.  The book jacket for Jesse James‘ memoir, American Outlaw, is exactly that.  Jesse really seems to be taking the whole famous-outlaw-namesake thing way too far.  On the front cover you have Jesse in shadow and sepia, framed by text in an Old West font.  On the rear cover, you have Jesse dressed as the historical Jesse James, holding his own .44 Magnum in a casually threatening manner.

What’s up with this design?  Jesse says he didn’t want to go with the ubiquitous

“variation of a bad prom photo, serious Thinker pose like most book jackets show.  I just wanted something different. I wasn’t going to mail it in.”

Bad prom phot–what?  What is he talking about?  Well, you know, when you’ve got a book full of gripping content, you want that reflected in the book’s exterior, right?

“I’ve lived a pretty crazy life.  My life has been defined by many things and not just the events of the last year.  I just wanted [the memoir] to be a good story, a page-turner and hopefully people will see it as that.

People claim to know everything about me, when they actually know nothing.  But once you read this, you will know everything – the whole story, right here.”

There is honestly so little that I really want to know about Jesse James.  Speaking of those events of the last year, I think we all know just a little more than we want to, actually.   I’m kind of left wondering who’s going to read this thing.

Matthew McConaughey Is A ‘Fun-Loving Guy’

Matthew McConaughey knows there is a certain perception of him in the public consciousness – that guy who bongos naked, parties constantly and prefers his shirt off more than on.

True to form, the Texas-born McConaughey tells it straight up to Esquire magazine’s April issue.

“Do I think the image of me is a true picture of who I am? No, it’s incomplete. But things about me that are out there — I’m not going to say they’re false,” the actor says.

McConaughey does admit that while his image is one-sided, he won’t be issuing denials.

“Am I a fun-loving guy, man? Who likes running around in the summer with his shirt off, man? Am I a guy who likes to hang out with his friends, and party and go to concerts and football games with his friends?” McConaughey asks. “Well, yeah! Yes, I am. Always have been. Always hopefully will be. You know?”

Check out some photos of Matthew working out earlier this week, (with his shirt on, darn it!) below. (Read the article)
