No More Daddy’s Girl: Beyonce Dumps Her Dad As Manager

Singer Beyonce has parted professional ways with her father Matthew Knowles.

The split was acknowledged by both daughter and father in separate statements, which both made it clear that this nothing personal.   From Beyonce’s statement:

“He is my father for life and I love my dad dearly. I am grateful for everything he has taught me.  I grew up watching both he and my mother manage and own their own businesses. They were hard-working entrepreneurs and I will continue to follow in their footsteps.”

For his part, Daddy Knowles called his daughter a “very, very smart businesswoman” and reiterated:

“Business is business and family is family. I love my daughter and am very proud of who she is and all that she has achieved. I look forward to her continued great success.”

I think this is a good move.  Beyonce has been managed by her father since she was in her pre-teens.  She’s nearly 30 now.  That’s a long-ass time, and we’ve seen what happens when a manager dad gets too pushy with his daughter’s career.  *cough*Jessica Simpson*cough*   What I don’t quite understand is why Daddy is going to continue managing Destiny’s Child – mainly because I didn’t think they were even an entity anymore, but I guess they’re only “retired” and could eventually make a comeback.

Top Chef All-Stars: Who Won?

Top Chef All-Stars finale was held tonight and the two remaining contestants or cheftestants as BRAVO likes to call them, cooked their hearts out.

Mike Isabella and Richard Blais went head to head and dish to dish in the Bahamas for the $200,000 grand prize.

No quickfire in this episode for Blais and Isabella, but 15 of the previous chefs were back to compete to be their sous-chefs in the last meal of the season.

Through a blind taste test Isabella ended up with “Mikey’s Angels:” Carla Hall, Jamie Lauren and Tiffani Faison.

Blais chose Spike Mendelsohn, Angelo Sosa and the previously eliminated Antonia Lofaso.

To not spoil it for those who haven’t seen it yet, just highlight below for the winning chef.
And the winner was: Richard Blais!

The fan favorite was down to Carla and Fabio Viviani.
And the winner of the $10,000 prize was: Carla Hall!

This was a fantastic season.

Can’t wait for the reunion show next week when Elia Koteas verbally spars with Tom Colicchio.

Take A Peek At Lily Allen’s Save The Date Announcement!

Lily Allen and Sam Cooper are tying the knot on June 11th, and they’ve asked their guests to save the date with this cute announcement.   The card features Lily and Sam’s faces Photoshopped onto a picture of a couple riding on a tractor.  I love it!  The pair will marry in Gloucestershire, in southwest England, and Lily will evidently be in a dress by Chanel – apparently her trip to Paris Fashion Week included a meeting with designer Karl Lagerfeld to discuss her wedding gown.  Congratulations to Lily and Sam!

Creepy Mermaids On New ‘Pirates: Stranger Tides’ Poster

Here’s the poster for the upcoming third sequel Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides starring Johnny Depp.

The faces look superimposed, I could do better on photoshop myself. Hopefully the movie has better special effects than this poster. The whole mermaid element seems sort-of played out to me, there better be something original about it if they want people to be intrigued.

Bryan Cranston May Be ‘Total Recall’ Baddie

Bryan Cranston star of the award winning TV series Breaking Bad is a likely candidate to play the villain in the upcoming Total Recall remake starring Colin Farrell.

Emmy winner Bryan Cranston is in talks to play the villain in Columbia’s remake of Total Recall. Colin Farrell is starring in the sci-fi action pic, which is being directed by Len Wiseman and produced by Neal Moritz’s Original Films.

Cranston is an amazing actor, I think he needs to break away from TV and do some major film roles. If he does he’ll get an Oscar, he pulls an emotional reaction from an audience like few actors can. Total Recall isn’t exactly Oscar bait, but it’s a path I hope he continues in the film world.

New ‘Tree of Life’ Poster Packed with Pretty Pics

Here’s the newest poster for the upcoming film Tree of Life starring Brad Pitt.

This movie looks like it might end up going the way of ‘preachy’, I’m hoping that doesn’t end up being the case. The visuals are obviously going to be nice for this one, the poster screams for you to take a closer look. I’m hoping the movie comes out the same way, but with a solid story.

‘Mad Men’ Delayed Until 2012

It’s going to be a long wait for Mad Men and Don Draper’s return.

Creator Matthew Weiner has been in prolonged negotiations with AMC for the hit show’s fifth season and things aren’t looking too good.

Weiner released a statement to fansite Basket of Kisses clarifying his position on the contract problems.

The showrunner says the actual conversations he and AMC bosses had didn’t happen until “three weeks ago” and one of the sticking points is that AMC wants 2 cast members cut each year for 3 years going forward.

“Even though people have left the show, none of that has ever been about money…I’ve brought the show in on budget. I’ve been a good producer,” Weiner told the site.

He did not address the rumors of product placement in the show or cutting 2 minutes of time each episode to allow more commercials, offsetting the cost. He did speak to another reported hurdle in the ongoing talks: the amount of money rumored to be offered him – $10 million each year for 3 years – is untrue.

“First of all, the number that’s been published is not true. Second of all, I offered to have less money, to save the cast, and to leave the show in the running time that it’s supposed to be. The harder that I’ve fought for the show, the more money that they’ve offered me,” he says.

Let’s hope this all works out soon.

Ashley Greene Takes Being A Role Model Seriously

Ashley Greene takes one of the three covers Glamour magazine has for May wearing a floral bathing suit with lilac shirt tied at the waist.

The Skateland star tells Glamour, which calls her “The Bombshell,” that she realizes that she has lots of impressionable fans and she takes that responsibility to heart.

“I keep to the ground rules,” the actress states. “I’m not going to get drunk at a bar. There are younger girls who look up to me. So I do my best not to stray too far.”

The 24 year-old also shares her commitment to her charity work.

“I work with a charity called Donate My Dress,” Greene says. “It’s got chapters all over the country where you can donate special-occasion dresses.”

The actress understands how important this is to her fan base.

“Prom is a big deal when you’re 15 years old, and it enables girls who don’t have the money to come in and choose something special,” she said.

Greene’s issue of Glamour is on newsstands now.

Elijah Wood: New York City Stroll

Elijah Wood enjoyed an afternoon in the Big Apple on Tuesday.

The 30 year-old took some time to hang with friends after shooting scenes for his upcoming FX TV show Wilfred.

Wood and costar Jason Gann, have been in Venice Beach, California filming with Gann in dog costume and Wood hitting a bong for the show. (See photos here.)

The show is a U.S. remake of the Australian dark comedy starring Gann as the alter-ego of Ryan (Wood) a repressed and depressed man caught in his fears while his dog/ego pushes his limits. Watch the trailer here.

‘Wonder Woman’ Adrianne Palicki In Action

Filming for the NBC reboot Wonder Woman hit the streets of Los Angeles yesterday and we get to see Adrianne Palicki in action and new costume tweaks! (See the first costume shot here)

First – the pants aren’t shiny bright blue pleather any more. They have a less shiny, more denim-y look to them. I like it much better. It works well with red bustier.

Second – the boot change. No longer the blue that matched the first version of the pants, these are now red and break up the visual nicely.

The production was shooting scenes in downtown L.A. and the 27 year-old actress is already working on stunt moves – jumping onto the top of a car, rolling over the hood of another.

Check out the photos below and go here for the first costume shot the studio released and tell us what you think of the changes.

I approve! Do you?
