AMC’s surprise breakout hit The Walking Dead was the opening show for the PaleyFest 2011 in Los Angeles.
The panel included actors Andrew Lincoln, Sarah Wayne Callies, Jon Bernthal, Laurie Holden and Steven Yeun and showrunner Frank Darabont spoke a little about the upcoming season.
Unfortunately, they are just beginning to work on season 2 so there isn’t a lot of concrete information, however we do know it will be back on air in October 2011.
Season 2 will also be 13 episodes, versus the 6 from this past year. Sweet!
Darabont and cast are also telling us the gore we’ve seen is nothing compared to what they have planned this time around.
The show will pick up right where it left off, not one month (or whatever time frame) in the future.
Robert Kirkman, the creator of the comic that launched this series, also said that things will vary from the original story and fans shouldn’t expect every thing from the books to end up on screen exactly. The character Shane (Bernthal) doesn’t make it this far so there is just one example of a change.
The cast and writers did say that the Hershel’s Farm storyline will be featured and the band of survivors will spend some time there.
Will Merle (Michael Rooker) end up being the Govenor from the comic? Darabont said “Maybe I’ll do something lame and obvious,” sounding like he didn’t want that to happen, but also reportedly said he’s “testing the possibilities.”
I am personally so excited about this show. I love it! Looking forward to what they have to offer this fall.
