Kate Middleton & Prince William’s Official Wedding Cake Design Revealed

Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s big day is just a month away, and royal wedding information – and rumors – are starting to flow fast and furious. The latest: the couple have revealed the bakers and designs of their official wedding cakes.
No, you’re not having deja vu. Just two weeks ago, the Welsh National Culinary Team was commissioned to make one of Kate and Wills’ cakes, but that one is going to be donated to charity. Two cakes will actually be served to the couple’s 600 wedding reception guests.
The main cake will be a traditional fruitcake, iced and decorated with 16 different kinds of icing flowers, including those representing the four corners of the United Kingdom: English rose, Irish shamrock, Welsh daffodil and Scottish thistle. The baker, Fiona Cairns, says that we can also expect to see:
“…the bridal rose, which symbolizes happiness, the oak and acorn – which is an architectural detail around the room where the cake will be – symbolizes strength and endurance. There is a lily of the valley, which symbolizes sweetness and humility, and ivy leaves, which symbolize marriage.”
Cairns says working with Kate has been a straightforward matter.
“She has guided us right from the beginning and has quite strong ideas…That makes it much easier than a bride who has absolutely no idea whatsoever, which has happened in the past. She knew very much what she wanted, and she brought us mood boards and told us what influences she would like us to use on the cake.”
To satisfy the groom’s sweet tooth, a “chocolate-cookie cake” will be created by McVitie’s biscuit company. For the order of “a few hundred” slices of cake, they expect to use “35 lbs. of chocolate and approximately 1,700 McVitie’s Rich Tea biscuits.”
