Kate Middleton & Prince William’s Official Wedding Cake Design Revealed

Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s big day is just a month away, and royal wedding information – and rumors – are starting to flow fast and furious.   The latest:  the couple have revealed the bakers and designs of their official wedding cakes.

No, you’re not having deja vu.  Just two weeks ago, the Welsh National Culinary Team was commissioned to make one of Kate and Wills’ cakes, but that one is going to be donated to charity.   Two cakes will actually be served to the couple’s 600 wedding reception guests.

The main cake will be a traditional fruitcake, iced and decorated with 16 different kinds of icing flowers, including those representing the four corners of the United Kingdom:  English rose, Irish shamrock, Welsh daffodil and Scottish thistle. The baker, Fiona Cairns, says that we can also expect to see:

“…the bridal rose, which symbolizes happiness, the oak and acorn – which is an architectural detail around the room where the cake will be – symbolizes strength and endurance. There is a lily of the valley, which symbolizes sweetness and humility, and ivy leaves, which symbolize marriage.”

Cairns says working with Kate has been a straightforward matter.

“She has guided us right from the beginning and has quite strong ideas…That makes it much easier than a bride who has absolutely no idea whatsoever, which has happened in the past.  She knew very much what she wanted, and she brought us mood boards and told us what influences she would like us to use on the cake.”

To satisfy the groom’s sweet tooth, a “chocolate-cookie cake” will be created by McVitie’s biscuit company.  For the order of “a few hundred” slices of cake, they expect to use “35 lbs. of chocolate and approximately 1,700 McVitie’s Rich Tea biscuits.”

Harry Potter Faces Voldemort on First ‘Deathly Hallows: Part 2′ Poster

Here’s the first poster for the upcoming final chapter in the series Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.

Cool poster, very intense. I have a small running list of movies I’m really looking forward to seeing this summer and this one is at the top. I truly hope it lives up to the expectations, Part 1 was kind-of boring.

Jennifer Garner to Play ‘Miss Marple’

Jennifer Garner has been cast in the upcoming Disney movie Miss Marple.

Jennifer Garner will be the actress who puts a young spin on Miss Marple in Disney’s reboot of the Agatha Christie mystery series sleuth. The character had been portrayed by a long line of actresses who played Marple as an elderly spinster who cracked crimes in her spare time. Garner and her Vandalia Films partner Juliana Janes will produce a film that will be shaped as a star vehicle for Garner, the former Alias star who will next be seen in Arthur.

It’s no surprise that they have made this character young and current, Garner seems like a great choice here. She’s definitely good at pulling off the sweet-as-pie Disney type. I hope it’s actually something compelling, especially since Garner is also good at action and spy stuff from her years on Alias.

Thomas McDonell to Play Young Johnny Depp in Tim Burton’s ‘Dark Shadows’

Young actor Thomas McDonell has been cast to play the young Johnny Depp in Tim Burton’s upcoming film Dark Shadows. The film will also star (obviously) Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Bella Heathcoate, Jackie Earle Haley and Eva Green. Helena Bonham Carter is also expected to be joining the cast.

Warner Bros and director Tim Burton has set Thomas McDonell to play the young Barnabas Collins in Dark Shadows, the feature film based on the 1960s TV soap. He’ll be serving as the younger version of the character that Johnny Depp plays in the film’s lead role.

He really looks like Johnny Depp did at that age, it’s almost bizarre. This movie sounds like it’s going to be pretty cool, it’s like all the actors in Tim Burton‘s movies are a part of his club. He brings them back over and over. I wonder how many Burton movies Thomas McDonell will be in after this one.

Natalie Portman Looks Great on New ‘Thor’ Poster

Here’s one of the newest posters for the upcoming comic book movie Thor starring Natalie Portman. Here are the rest of the character posters that were also just released.

Natalie looks so good, I can’t wait to see how this movie turns out. I get the feeling she’ll be one of the movie’s biggest highlights.

‘Inception’ and ‘Harry Potter’ Debut on Facebook Streaming

Facebook has added Inception, the first two Harry Potter movies, Life As We Know It, and Yogi Bear to their growing list of streaming films.

At 10 p.m. PT, consumers will be able to rent the first two movies of the Harry Potter franchise, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of SecretsChristopher Nolan’s mid-bending Inception; romantic comedy Life As We Know It; and Yogi Bear, which became available on DVD, Blu-Ray and 3D Blu-Ray on March 22.

The titles will be available for rent directly through each film’s official Facebook page using Facebook Credits.

The fact that Facebook is getting very new releases like Life As We Know It and Yogi Bear could spell trouble for Netflix if the trend continues. Netflix has a pretty long waiting window for brand new releases. I still have Netflix because of it’s huge list of instantly streaming movies, but if the competition gets better I won’t hesitate to switch.

Viggo Mortensen Drops ‘Snow White’ for ‘Superman’?

Viggo Mortensen has reportedly dropped out of the role of the Huntsman in the upcoming Snow White and the Huntsman. This frees up his schedule making it possible to take the role as the villain in Zack Snyder‘s Superman: Man of Steel.

Viggo Mortensen has ended negotiations for the role of the huntsman in Universal’s “Snow White and the Huntsman” and has moved on from the project…

…Mortensen’s exit from “Huntsman” opens the door for him to take the role of the villain in Warner Bros.’ “Superman: Man of Steel,” which would have shot at about the same time.

Speculation on the villain role in “Superman” has ranged from Edgar Ramirez to Michael Shannon, but sources tell Variety Mortensen has been a leading contender.

Warner Bros. would not comment, but “Superman” director Zack Snyder is said to be interested in Mortensen.

I hope he takes the role in Superman, he’d be taking a brand new step as a major villain. I have no doubt he’d pull off a bad guy role brilliantly. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens, hopefully good news will come soon.
