Natalie Portman’s Dance Double Becomes Real-Life ‘Black Swan’

Natalie Portman‘s dancing double from the film Black Swan is claiming that she deserves more credit than she’s gotten since the film’s release.

The ballerina who served as a dancing double for Natalie Portman’s Oscar-winnning role in Black Swan tells EW she has been the victim of a “cover-up” to mislead the public about how much dancing Portman actually did in the film. “Of the full body shots, I would say 5 percent are Natalie,” says Sarah Lane, 27, an American Ballet Theatre soloist who performed many of the film’s complicated dance sequences, allowing Portman’s face to be digitally grafted onto her body. “All the other shots are me.”

Lane’s claim follows a March 23 L.A. Times article in which Portman’s fiancé and Black Swan choreographer Benjamin Millepied said Lane’s work in the film was far less significant. “There are articles now talking about her dance double [American Ballet Theatre dancer Sarah Lane] that are making it sound like [Lane] did a lot of the work, but really, she just did the footwork, and the fouettés, and one diagonal [phrase] in the studio,” he said. “Honestly, 85 percent of that movie is Natalie.”

Today even Mila Kunis came to her friend Natalie Portman‘s defense.

“Natalie danced her a– off,” says Kunis. “I think it’s unfortunate that this is coming out and taking attention away from [the praise] Natalie deserved and got.”

Kunis also says Portman has been honest about how much of the demanding footwork she was — and wasn’t — able to do. “She’ll tell you [that], no, she was not on pointe when she did a fouetté [turn]. No one’s going to deny that. But she did do every ounce of every one of her dances,” she says. “[Lane] wasn’t used for everything. It was more like a safety net. If Nat wasn’t able to do something, you’d have a safety net. The same thing that I had — I had a double as a safety net. We all did. No one ever denied it.”

Sarah Lane just looks desperate and silly here, what kind of recognition does she want? They don’t have a Best Double Oscar now do they? She was hired to do the job, she did it and got paid, I don’t see why she’s complaining. I’m sure there were about 20 qualified dancers that could have done the exact same thing, yet she’s still whining. I bet she’s ruined her chances of doubling for anyone else in hollywood again. I’m glad the choreographer and Mila Kunis set the record straight here. Even if he didn’t say 85% of the movie was Natalie Portman, she deserved the Oscar for her whole performance, not for dance steps. Does this story remind anyone else of the plot from the movie? Just saying.

Prince Harry Looks Hot, Covers GQ & Treks To The North Pole

Prince Harry is about to find himself in a decidedly colder climate than that of England.

The 26 year-old Royal is headed to the North Pole on an expedition to raise awareness for the charity Walking with The Wounded, an organization he is patron of.

The Prince tells GQ UK, which he covers for the May 2011 issue, that the debt owed to soldiers is important.

“This extraordinary expedition will raise awareness of the debt that this country owes to those it sends off to fight – only for them to return wounded and scarred, physically and emotionally,” Harry said,

“The debt extends beyond immediate medical care and short-term rehabilitation. These men and women have given so much.”

On Friday the Prince heads out to begin training for the walk, which is a four week long trek covering close to 200 miles, however because of his military service, the Prince will only be able to take part in the first five days.

The walk across the frozen landscape will hopefully raise $1 million or more for injured military personnel and hopes to inspire other disabled soldiers to find inspiration and lift themselves up out of hopelessness.

Along with the Prince, four other wounded soldiers will take part in the entire journey. The injured Afghanistan veterans are Captain Martin Hewitt, 30, Captain Guy Disney, 28, Sergeant Steve Young, 28, and Private Jaco Van Gass, 24.

“We must recognise their sacrifice, be thankful, so far as we can ever repay them for it,” Prince Harry said.

The issue goes on sale Thursday in the UK and GQ is donating a portion of each magazine to the charity.

Hugh Laurie & Russell Brand ‘Hop’ To It

British gents Hugh Laurie and Russell Brand were in top form on Sunday, March 27th for the premiere of Hop. Held at Universal Studios, the duo who voice the father and son rabbit characters for the film, buddied up on the red carpet.

The House star says he finds voiceover work fascinating as he’s done lots of animated characters for film and TV.

“I love doing voice stuff. I’ve always enjoyed it,” said Laurie. “But I also just enjoy speech, voice, sound. Those are things that sorta fascinate me’ and the things people can do with rhythm and expressiveness in their voice.”

For Brand’s part, he says he just enjoys creating for kids.

“I like mucking about and being silly. I really, really love children,” Brand said. “Among children is probably when I feel most liberated. I don’t feel like, “Oh, there’s some children here. I have to tone it down.” I go nuts with children, especially because I ain’t got none.”

Shania Twain: 2011 Juno Awards

Shania Twain was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame at the 2011 Juno Awards held at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto on Sunday night.

Twain was beautiful in a black and white sparkling gown and was accompanied by her new husband, Frederic Thiebaud.

Bryan Adams, who presented her with the honor, called Twain  “a Canadian treasure” and a video presentation was shown with highlights from her career and greetings sent from other artists including Anne Murray and Taylor Swift.

An emotional Twain told the audience “This is just a very beautiful moment for me and I’m really so proud of Canada’s talent.”

Jake Pavelka Shakes One Up For Japan Relief (Photos)

The Bachelor Jake Pavelka added his own signature creation to the menu board at Millions of Milkshakes this weekend.  The Jake Pavelka Shake, which appears to be a banana-strawberry concoction,  is intended to be both tasty and charitable:  50% of the proceeds from each shake sold will fund the American Red Cross’ relief efforts in Japan.

I am really impressed with the ways different celebs have stepped up to help by donating or raising funds to help with the devastation caused by the March 11th earthquake, tsunami and subsequent nuclear disaster in Japan.   Here are just a few:

First ‘The Three Musketeers’ Trailer Action Packed

Here’s the first trailer for the upcoming remake The Three Musketeers.

This movie is clearly heavily relying on the action side more than the story side of … well, the story. The actors involved are my biggest motivation for seeing this, not the effects and 3D.

Robert Pattinson Says ‘Twilight: Breaking Dawn’ is a Horror Movie

Robert Pattinson talked about the upcoming final chapter in the series The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn calling it a horror movie.

To hear it from Robert Pattinson, “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn” will be a lot more “Black Swan” than “Sweet Valley High.”

The heartthrob is in full swing promoting “Water For Elephants,” which costars Reese Witherspoon, and dishing on the tone of the final two parts in the massive vampire franchise.

Pattinson confesses that “for a big mainstream movie, it’s the most obscure storyline and really outside the box. It’s a horror movie.” Director Bill Condon is at the helm.

With the “Twilight” team going darker, Pattinson wonders if the flick will score a PG-13 rating.

“I’ve seen a few bits, and I just can’t see how it’s going to be PG-13 … unless they cut everything out,” he said.

Horror? Really? I’m not buying it, as much as there will be darker stuff I can’t imagine it could possibly be scary. I haven’t read the book so maybe I’m not the best judge, but the corny acting should be enough to make the movie less than frightening. And keep in mind (despite what Pattinson says), the movie will obviously still be rated PG-13, not R. They cant exclude their main demographic from legally seeing the final movies.

Rick Fox Runs It Out In Beverly Hills (Photos)

What’s the rush, Rick Fox?  The former Laker and current squeeze of Eliza Dushku (I don’t get it either) was spotted running down the street to his car in Beverly Hills on Saturday sporting a Daisuke “Dice-K” Matsuzaka baseball jersey.   Maybe he was in a rush to get home and change for Perez Hilton‘s Blue Ball Birthday Party, which he and Eliza attended that evening.

I kind of hate to say this, but has Rick aged kind of quickly in the last few years – heck, even in the last few months since he was on Dancing With The Stars.  He used to be a total, well, fox.  Now he’s a good looking but definitely 40-ish guy who is showing his age.  Maybe dating a much-younger woman is wearing him out!
