First Look: Disney’s ‘The Ballad of Nessie’ (Images)

Here is your first look at The Ballad of Nessie the upcoming Disney animated film.

A story set in the bonny blue highlands of Scotland, and centered on Nessie, the friendly Loch Ness monster, her best friend MacQuack the rubber duck, and how the duo came to live in the moor they call home. Problems arrive in the form of a land developer named MacFroogle, who wants to build a mini-golf empire on top of Nessie’s home.

Not a whole lot is revealed visually , but at least we have a good look at the style of the movie. I’m glad Disney still makes movies like this without using tons of CGI. Look for The Ballad of Nessie in theaters July 25th, 2011.

Woody Allen’s ‘Midnight in Paris’ Trailer Looking Fun

Here’s the trailer for the upcoming Woody Allen film Midnight in Paris.

This movie looks like it could be pretty fun, it’s certainly out of the realm of Woody Allen normality. The time travel/parallel universe factor looks like it will work really well for this offbeat movie. Not to mention the fact that the movie has a stellar cast, this should be interesting.

Will Smith and Son Jaden Set for M. Night Shyamalan Sci-Fi Movie

Will Smith and his son Jaden Smith are set to star in an upcoming sci-fi movie by M. Night Shyamalan.

Sony Pictures Entertainment has signed Will Smith and son Jaden Smith to star in an untitled futuristic science fiction adventure film that will be directed by M. Night Shyamalan. Shymalan wrote the script with Gary Whitta, and Overbrook’s James Lassiter, Smith, Ken Stovitz and Jada Pinkett Smith will produce with Shyamalan…

…The story takes place far in the future where a young boy has to navigate an abandoned planet on a space ship that has crashed. On board is his estranged father.

This sounds like the worst idea since the last time they let Shyamalan make a movie. I’m very disappointed in the Smith family for getting so involved with this clearly poor director. I’m sure it will be filled with cool special effects to distract from all the other badness. I don’t look forward this happening at all.

Sean Hayes Cast as Larry in ‘The Three Stooges’

Sean Hayes star of the hugely popular sitcom Will & Grace has been cast as Larry in the upcoming comedy The Three Stooges from the Farrelly Brothers.

20th Century Fox and Peter and Bobby Farrelly have set Sean Hayes to play Larry in The Three Stooges, the slapstick comedy that is slated to begin production later this month. He joins Will Sasso, who had previously been set to play Curly. The search is still on for the role of Moe, a role that has had a number of actors circling. Hayes has physical comedy chops and showed during readings that he had the ability to play a lovable simpleton, something that amateur boxer-turned-punching bag Larry Fine did so well.

This movie just seems like a bad idea to me. Sean Hayes will probably be good as Larry, but I just don’t see this movie working as a whole. Today’s comedy just isn’t the same, I’m sure it will be far dirtier and goofier than the original show. What do you think? Will you see The Three Stooges?

New Blu-ray Releases April 5th, 2011: Full List

Blu-ray is the new standard, DVD is on its way out and every week they are releasing many films on the relatively new format. Here’s the full list of Blu-ray movies out this week on March 29th, 2011.

The  highlight this week is the Tron Legacy and it’s 3D and Special Editions. While the movie didn’t exactly have me enthralled, it did manage to wow me with visuals. It’s kind-of a definitive must own for people who want to show off their 3D TVs. Not a whole lot of other big stuff out this week, but if you’re a fan of Taxi Driver like I am, you might want to pick it up this week.

‘Expendables 2′ Set for Summer 2012 Release

The sequel to the action flick The Expendables has been given a release date of August 17th, 2012!

The sequel to Sylvester Stallone‘s surprise hit, The Expendables, has yet to lock down a director, but at least its got a release date. Lionsgate just announced that The Expendables 2, written by David Agosto and Ken Kaufman, will explode into theaterson August 17, 2012.

This movie is probably not going to be quite as packed with stars I’m guessing. And although I didn’t love the first one, there is a good chance I’d be willing to watch this one too. I’m like most men, I love explosions, battles, martial arts, guns and hot girls so count me in. The movie will be released within a week of G.I. Joe 2, so they better get it right if it’s going to compete!

Phil Collins Daughter Lily Collins Cast as ‘Snow White’

Lily Collins daughter of Phil Collins has been cast in the upcoming film The Brothers Grimm: Snow White with Julia Roberts.

Lily Collins, the daughter of singer Phil Collins whose breakout role came as the daughter of Sandra Bullock’s character in The Blind Side, has been tapped to play the coveted role of Snow White in Relativity Media’s modern retelling of the Brothers Grimm fairy tale, the company said tonight. She joins Armie Hammer as Prince Andrew Alcott and Julia Roberts as the evil queen in the Tarsem Singh-directed feature, which has begun preproduction ahead of a planned May shoot. The film already has a release date: June 29, 2012.

As ludicrous as it may be, I’ve still not seen The Blindside. I hear Collins was great in that movie, which brought her to this point.  She’s obviously on her way up starring opposite Julia Roberts is not exactly a common casting. Hopefully the movie has something really interesting beyond the simplicity of re-telling.
