Lisa Edelstein Leaving ‘House’

Lisa Edelstein has played Dr. Lisa Cuddy for 7 seasons on the hit show House, but the actress has confirmed she will not return for season 8, which very well may be the last year for the medical drama.

“After much consideration, I am moving onward with a combination of disappointment at leaving behind a character I have loved playing for seven years and excitement of the new opportunities in acting and producing that lie ahead,” Edelstein said in a statement.

The 44 year-old actress may have been part of cost cutting measures that FOX and Universal asked House producers David Shore and Katie Jacobs to enact to keep the show on the air.

Omar Epps and Robert Sean Leonard have reportedly either had a pay freeze or less episodes in order to return.

Hugh Laurie has been set for season eight as he had one year left on his contract.

No possibility of  Huddy reuniting now and how will this change the dynamic of the show – with Cuddy who always covered for House?

Happy that this shakes things up for the (possible) final season or disappointed that Lisa isn’t returning?

Jean Claude Van Damme’s ‘Bloodsport’ Getting Reboot

Director Phillip Noyce has been set to direct a remake of the the 1988 Jean Claude Van Damme martial arts action movie Bloodsport.

Pressman has closed deals with Phillip Noyce to direct and Robert Mark Kamen to script a reinvention of iconic Jean Claude Van Damme actioner Bloodsport (1988).

Alberto Lensi is producing with Pressman the story will follow an American who goes to Brazil to recover from the violence he has experienced in Afghanistan who gets involved in a martial arts contest.

A modernized version of what some people consider one of the best martial arts films ever. Sounds about right, I’m just wondering who they are going to cast in the title role. Hopefully it will be an actual skilled martial artist, not just an actor with a double. Could this be the beginning of a new upswing back to good martial arts movies in the USA? Time will tell.

Dwayne Johnson is a ‘Snitch’

Dwayne Johnson is set to star in the upcoming movie Snitch.

…Snitch, a drama based on a true story that stars Dwayne Johnson and is directed by Ric Roman Waugh. The script, by Justin Haythe and Waugh, is inspired by the Frontline documentary Snitch, which follows a suburban dad (Johnson) whose teen son is sentenced to 10 years under mandatory minimum drug laws. To reduce the sentence, the father goes undercover to catch a senior drug dealer.

This role fits Johnson perfectly, I’m sure the action side of the story will be pumped up for him. It’s a really intriguing tale, especially since it’s based on real life. I’m hoping the drama is palatable with Johnson, he needs some good dramatic roles without the over-the-top action.

Spielberg’s First ‘Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn’ Teaser Trailer

Here’s the first teaser trailer for the upcoming Steven Spielberg film The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn.

This teaser really doesn’t give anything away, but it certainly shows off the unique animation/live-action hybrid style. I get the feeling more and more movies are going to employ this style in coming years. It’s great to finally have another Spielberg film on it’s way after his most recent and disappointing Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. This is the first movie in a trilogy, Peter Jackson is directing the next one. I really hope these movies are as good as they have the potential to be!

Full Length ‘Super 8′ Trailer Looks Great

Here’s the full trailer for the upcoming film Super 8 from director J.J. Abrams.

This trailer really makes the movie look great. It has the feel of an older Spielberg film, with the great elements of suspense and intrigue that J.J. Abrams is so good at bringing out. I’m really looking forward to this one, my only fear is the number of child actors. It’s hard to find convincing young actors, for some reason their bad acting is often overlooked in movies. I do have a lot of faith in J.J. Abrams, so I’m pretty sure this one will be good.

‘The Flintstones’ Getting Reboot From ‘Family Guy’ Seth MacFarlane

The Flintstones are getting a full reboot from Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane, both in TV series form and as a feature film!

Fox just announced the deal at its upfront this afternoon. Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly said production on the animated series will begin production in Fall 2011 for a 2013 premiere on the Fox schedule…

…Seth MacFarlane who says the very first cartoon character he drew at age 2 was Fred Flintstone. “So it’s appropriate that events have come full circle, allowing me to produce the newest incarnation of this great franchise. Plus, I think America is finally ready for an animated sitcom about a fat stupid guy with a wife who’s too good for him.”

Loyal Family Guy watchers will note that MacFarlane has already had animated comedic spoofs of The Flintstones on the show. That gives an idea of how the animated series will look, very polished. Fully holding the rights to The Flintstones gives MacFarlane and Co. the freedom to make good feature length movies to somehow make up for the abysmal live action incarnations released years ago. It’ll be a while before we actually see the re-emergence of the beloved Flintstones, but I’m sure they’ll have a glorious return with MacFarlane at the helm.

Fox Cancels ‘America’s Most Wanted’ After 23 Years

What would Saturday nights be without America’s Most Wanted on TV?   We’re about to find out:  Fox announced its fall schedule on Monday, and the show that has helped arrest more than 1,000 criminals was cut from the lineup.

Hosted by John Walsh, whose own son was kidnapped and murdered in 1981, America’s Most Wanted is Fox’s longest running show.   The show has been extremely effective at helping locate and arrest fugitive criminals:  its first capture was just four days after the first broadcast.

AMW is not entirely going away at Fox:  it will still air four quarterly two-hour specials next season.   Given the show’s monster popularity – 5 million viewers this season – it’s likely to be picked up by another network and reports are that Walsh has been shopping it around.

Jennifer Love Hewitt To Pick Up Some Of Mariska Hargitay’s ‘SVU’ Duties

Mariska Hargitay and husband Peter Hermann attended the New York premiere of HBO‘s Too Big To Fail held at the Museum of Modern Art on Monday, May 16th.

The film, based on the book from Andrew Ross Sorkin, is an account of the financial crisis in 2008 and the fight between Washington DC politicians and Wall Street tycoons.

Hargitay may be taking a step back in her Law & Order SVU duties.

Deadline is reporting that actress Jennifer Love Hewitt might take on the role of a Detective on the hit show as Hargitay plans to scale back her TV work.

The 47 year-old actress who has portrayed Det. Olivia Benson for 12 seasons, has signed a new contract for season 13 but after the first 13 episodes, her character will receive a promotion to a supervisor position and no longer be on the front lines of the police work.

Producers are talking to Love Hewitt to become the newest member of the SVU squad.

What do you think of the possible replacement?

Alexander Skarsgard Spills On ‘True Blood’ Love Scenes To GQ

Hotter than hot, Alexander Skarsgard lands the GQ cover for the June issue and the actor gives up the details on the steamy love scenes for True Blood.

The actor says fans of both Anna Paquin (Sookie) and her husband Stephen Moyer (Bill) have nothing to worry about.

“It’s really clear to Steve and to everybody else what the deal is—which is that Anna is like a sister to me,” Skarsgard says. “Those love scenes take quite a bit of acting, actually. A lot of acting.”

Skarsgard, who moved to Los Angeles from his native Sweden, enjoys the everyday niceties found in America, even if it’s totally surface.

“You walk into the coffee shop, and the girl asks how your day is,” the actor said. “When I first moved here, I loved that. I know it’s shallow and superficial and she doesn’t give a f*ck about my day, but I still like it. It’s difficult to get to know a Swede. But once you do, you’re in.”

The Straw Dogs star also spoke about his father, actor Stellan Skarsgard.

“I don’t think I came to acting to compete with my father. But, you know, he wasn’t around as much as normal dads, and seeing his passion…Maybe it was a way to get his attention… I mean, if anything, we’re trying to take care of him. He’s over the hill.”

Jodie Foster Says Mel Gibson Went To ‘Such A Deep Place’ For Their Movie

The subject matter of the film is not easy and having an embattled lead actor is tough, but Jodie Foster put up a good fight at The Beaver photo call in Cannes, when the absent star, Mel Gibson, and his recent actions dominated the press.

Foster directed her longtime friend in the film about a depressed business man who finds himself only able to communicate honestly with his family through his hand puppet; a beaver.

The 48 year-old actress said that Gibson was the right actor for this role, regardless of anything else going on in his life.

“He really understood the character in a way that was extraordinary,” Foster told press. “I think that he was willing to go to such a deep place and willing to expose himself in some ways, to really talk about something he knows a lot about which is struggle, wanting to change, wanting to transform yourself, not wanting to be who you are and I’m so grateful for that performance.”

Gibson’s personal life exploded into a tabloid nightmare again when tapes of the actor verbally assaulting his then lover Oksana Grigorieva hit the net and he was charged with battery.

Asked if she thought this movie will be a public rehabilitation of Gibson’s persona, Foster said she had “no idea” but feels his performance is raw and exposed.

“I know that he is incredibly proud of the movie and I think that he is proud of what he’s shown and I think he wants people to see that side of him and he’s an incredibly private man so what he shows on screen is deep as you could possibly get,” Foster replied.

Foster and Gibson will appear at the premiere tonight.
