Angelina Jolie’s Directorial Debut Gets a Title and Release Date

Angelina Jolie‘s directorial debut finally has an official title. The film will be called In the Land of Blood and Honey and it’s set for release on December 23rd, 2011.

It’s now called: In the Land of Blood and Honey.

Jolie, who wrote and directed the film, had to settle on a name – and fast – when producer Graham King’s distribution arm FilmDistrict announced plans today to release it Dec. 23.

Blood and Honey, which she shot last October in Eastern Europe, focuses on a young Serbian man (played by Goran Kostic) and a Bosnian-Muslim woman (actress Zana Marjanovic) who begin a romance before the ethnic war of 1992 pulls them apart and ravages the former Yugoslavia.

Not exactly high concept blockbuster type stuff here, but it’ll be interesting to see how Jolie fares behind the camera for once. The film stirred up a bit of controversy from Bosnians against the portrayal of their people, but that will only help with publicity in the long run. Apparently the film has received mixed reviews after being shown at Cannes, I wonder how it will do here in the USA.

First ‘Fright Night’ Trailer and Poster with Colin Farrell

Here’s the first trailer and poster for the upcoming horror movie remake Fright Night starring Colin Farrell.

I don’t really know how to feel about this one. On one hand it reminds me of The Lost Boys, and on the other hand it just seems like another needless money making remake. It’s not like the vampire deal is fresh anymore, it’s all too common nowadays. Seeing Colin Farrell in this kind of role will probably be one of the biggest draws for this movie, it’s certainly not like anything he’s done before. What do you think?

‘Dark Tower’ Not Dead, Future Unclear

Last week it was announced that The Dark Tower series was going to get major delays as Universal stopped pre-production because of an inflated budget. Today we’ve learned that the film is still moving forward.

The project did hit budgetary snags and the fall start date was shelved. But Ron Howard, Brian Grazer and Akiva Goldsman have regrouped to try to bring the budget down.

Insiders say the end result is that Goldsman is now rewriting the script to reflect a lower price point. No start date has been given although it will certainly not be the fall.

What that does to the involvement of Javier Bardem, who was attached to star in the first movie and the first TV arc, is unclear.

Changing the schedule like this could spell the loss of Javier Bardem in the lead role if he has other projects contracted when they finally get ready to shoot. This is such a huge film series that is bound to do well if it’s done right. It’s really unfortunate that Universal is forcing re-writes because of the budget. I hope it can get back on track quickly, but this seems like a problem that won’t be easily solved. What I don’t get is why the budget is supposedly so inflated when the first film The Gunslinger is a straight western.

First Poster for ‘The Muppets’ Shows Them in a Whole New Way

Here’s the first poster for the upcoming movie The Muppets starring Jason Segel.

On vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the world’s biggest Muppet fan, and his friends Gary (Jason Segel) and Mary (Amy Adams) from Smalltown, USA, discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze the Muppet Theater and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets’ former stomping grounds. To stage The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever and raise the $10 million needed to save the theater, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino tribute band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate. With secret, signature, celebrity cameos, “The Muppets” hits the big screen Nov. 23, 2011.

Odd poster, seeing head-to-toe images of The Muppets is almost jarring. This movie definitely sounds like a fun new Muppet romp, I’ve been a Muppets fan since I was a kid. The more recent movies have slid away from the funny factors that made the older movies great for adults and children. Hopefully The Muppets can recapture that magic and have that humor that the adults can appreciate as well. Jason Segel seems like the perfect guy to star opposite the crazy bunch.

‘Terminator 5′ Moves Forward, Justin Lin Directing

Terminator 5 was announced recently, but until now hadn’t been secured and set to move forward. Now Justin Lin is attached to direct and the movie is definitely going to happen.

Megan Ellison has won an auction for the rights to make at least two more installments of The Terminator franchise, with Fast Five’s Justin Lin attached to direct and Arnold Schwarzenegger attached to star.

This movie series is certainly one of the most iconic in the entire history of film, it was only a matter of time before another one would be on the way. With  Schwarzenegger attached and now Justin Lin directing I’m sure the next film will be a better entry than Terminator Salvation was. The deal includes at least two more films so expect many more years of Terminator talk, Terminator 5 isn’t even out until 2014.

Chris Hemsworth Officially Snow White’s ‘Huntsman’

Chris Hemsworth has officially landed the the role of the huntsman in the upcoming fairy tale feature Snow White and the Huntsman with Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron.

He’s just closed a deal for the good guy role opposite Twilight Saga starlet Kristen Stewart as the Huntsman in Snow White And The Huntsman which is Universal’s version of the fairy tale.

Hemsworth is certainly a rising star. Thor was a fun movie and I’m sure The Avengers will be similar next year as he reprises his role as the mighty Thor. I personally think that his brother Liam Hemsworth is destined for bigger things, the roles he’s been landing are probably going to do more for him. Really though, only time will tell with these two Australian actors.

New Netflix/Miramax Deal Brings Classics Like ‘Pulp Fiction’ to Instant Streaming Service

Netflix has struck a deal with Miramax Films to add their film library to it’s instant streaming service.

Netflix and Miramax on Monday unveiled a multi-year agreement, under which Netflix streaming members in the U.S. will get to access movies from the Miramax film library, includingPulp Fiction, Shakespeare in Love, The English Patient, Good Will Hunting, Bad Santa, Scream, Spy Kids, The Piano and Kill Bill.

The deal marks the first time that Miramax titles have become available through a digital subscription service.

Beginning next month, Netflix will have access to several hundred Miramax movies, with dozens of titles being added on a rotating basis, the companies said.

Financial terms weren’t disclosed, and the companies didn’t detail which movies will be available when.

Great news! I love my instant streaming Netflix, now it’s going to be a whole lot better! Netflix has a lot of competition from other services nowadays. Amazon, Facebook, Blockbuster, they are all gunning for them. It’s a good thing Netflix is keeping current by adding big deals like this one.

Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt ‘Tree Of Life’ Cannes Premiere

The French Riviera got a dose of Hollywood pandemonium when Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt glided down the red carpet for the premiere of his new film Tree of Life at the 2011 Cannes International Film Festival.

Jolie selected a strapless dress in a deep, rich shade of chocolate silk with draping at the waist and thigh-high slit from Atelier Versace. Her choices have been more sleek, streamlined in shape and covered up lately, so this fuller silhouette is a lovely change. The 35 year-old actress looked amazing!

Pitt kept his hair slicked back and chose a Tom Ford tuxedo for the film premiere.

The 47 year-old actor said every role he takes, he keeps his kids in mind and the fact that one day, they will see his work.

“I think about everything I do now my kids are going to see when they grow up and how are they going to feel but they know me as a dad and I hope they’ll just think of me as a pretty, damn-good actor,” Pitt told reporters.

Photos of the couple are below. (Read the article)
