Alex Pettyfer is giving Los Angeles and Hollywood a lot to talk about – and that’s the name of the game isn’t it?
The British actor has been earning himself quite a reputation over the past few months and his recent interview with VMan seems to have Pettyfer steering into the skid.
Among the things he tells the magazine – he has a tattoo on his lower abdomen that says “Thank You” “In case I forget to say it,” he winks, by way of explanation.
It appears it doesn’t actually say that (see the photo and explanation here.) If it does in deed translate to that, he’s misogynistic at best, if it doesn’t, the joke is tasteless. I happen to think the latter.
It’s the Los Angeles bashing that he is really getting raked over the coals for. Here is what he says:
“L.A. is growing on me a little bit, but it’s still a sh*t-hole. I think it’s this insidious pool where nearly everyone lives in fear.”
“Geographically it’s fantastic: in a half hour, you can be on the beach in one direction, go snowboarding in another, or go out into the desert,” Pettyfer continues. “But socially it’s disgusting. I wish they’d just run all the c**ts out.”
When asked about the Hollywood red-carpets he says “I really don’t give a sh*t about any of that. I wish I had some interesting stories [about living in L.A.], but to be honest I mostly just do my work and then go home.”
Pettyfer uses the c-word and while I don’t think he’s using it specifically as a reference for women (it is also British slang,) it’s a trend that’s got to stop. Gwyneth Paltrow used it when referring to her OWN grandmother and people didn’t freak out like this.
Pettyfer did not address (or was not asked, not sure which) about the allegations his I Am Number Four costar and Glee actress Dianna Agron was terrified of him and his temper after they broke up and while he skirted the issue above, he does not directly deny that he was asked not to attend certain Oscar after-parties this season.
Is he a jerk? Most likely. He’s getting a terrible reputation with just a few films under his belt (read The Hollywood Reporter story on Pettyfer here.)
What do you think – Is he someone you want to watch on screen or do you think it’s much ado about nothing?
