Charlize Theron wears a striking low-cut dress for the IFPs 21st Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City.

The Snow White and The Huntsman actress chose the black and white, sexy Gucci number which she accented with gold chains and an updo with a simple thin black headband for her hair.

Theron, 36, was the recipient of a career achievement award. Her Young Adult costar, Patton Oswalt presented the South African actress with the prize.

“This award is the equivalent of giving the Velvet Underground a Grammy after their first album because you know the five other albums that are coming down the road,” he said.

“This is giving Willa Cather a Pulitzer prize for ‘Alexander’s Bridge’ because you know that ‘Antonia’ and ‘O Pioneers!’ is on the way.”

Young Adult, costarring Oswalt, Theron, Elizabeth Reaser and Patrick Wilson, directed by Jason Reitman and written by Diablo Cody is in theaters December 16th.

Victoria Beckham and Marc Jacobs pose together on the way inside to the British Fashion Awards at the Savoy Hotel in London on Monday, November 28th.

Beckham, 37, opted for an elegant long black sleeveless gown with pleated skirt and a draped halter neckline from her own line, Victoria Beckham RTW Fall 2011.

The designer pulled her hair back and chose a smoky eye with pale lip color for a sophisticated look.

Beckham was presented with the Brand of the Year Award by her pal and fellow fashion designer Jacobs.

Accepting the accolade, Beckham teared up and thanked her husband, soccer pro David Beckham, and her family for their support.

“I’m so sorry for crying. I’m being so rubbish,” she told the audience. “I would like to thank the British fashion industry for your support. I’d like to thank my team, you all know who you are, your focus, your creativity, I couldn’t do it without you.”

“My parents, my kids, and my husband. Without David [Beckham] I wouldn’t have had the courage to do what I am doing.”

Beckham later told the press she was “trying to keep it together” but the emotion of the night overwhelmed her.

Comedian and actor Patrice O’Neal has died at the age of 41.

O’Neal, who was a diabetic, suffered a stroke last month and he succumbed to complications from the infarction.

O’Neal’s agent, Matt Frost released a statement:

“It is with terrible sadness we must report that Patrice O’Neal has passed away this morning at 7:00am due to the complications of the stroke he suffered on October 19. Many of us have lost a close and loved friend; all of us have lost a true comic genius. His mother, who was also his best friend, was at his side,” he said.

“Patrice is survived by his wife, Vondecarlo; his step daughter Aymilyon, sister Zinder, and his mother Georgia. The family wishes to thank all of the fans and friends who have expressed an outpouring of love and support for Patrice these past weeks. We ask that you please respect the family’s request for privacy at this difficult time.”

The comedian’s death first came to light on the SirusXM radio show Opie & Anthony‘s twitter.

“Yes it’s true that our pal Patrice O’Neal has passed away. The funniest and best thinker i’ve ever known PERIOD. #devastated”

O’Neal has had parts in many shows including Arrested Development, The Office, Scary Movie 4 and hosted VH1‘s Web Junk.

His final performance was in September at the Comedy Central Roast of Charlie Sheen.

Dr. Conrad Murray was sentenced today to 4 years in the death of Michael Jackson.

Murray, who was at the singer’s home when he died, was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter by a jury at the beginning of November and Judge Michael Pastor handed down the decision for his incarceration saying Murray practiced “medical madness” and that the doctor was part of a “cycle of horrible medicine.”

Murray will not serve time in prison due to California’s overcrowding problem but will likely have his time reduced to 2 years and possible home confinement.

Jackson’s family attorney, Brian Parish, read a statement from his loved ones:

“We still look at each other in disbelief.  Is it really possible he is gone?”  The statement goes on …  “We are not here to seek revenge.  There is nothing you can do here today that will bring Michael back.”  In terms of the sentence, the family said: “We respectfully request you impose a sentence that reminds physicians they cannot sell their services to the highest bidder.”

In asking for leniency for the doctor, Murray’s attorney Ed Chernoff noted the doctor’s humble, “dirt poor” beginnings and asked that the judge look at the death of Jackson as a chapter in Murray’s otherwise well-regarded “book of life.”

“The defendant has displayed a complete lack of remorse for causing Michael Jackson’s death,” prosecutor David Walgren said. “Even worse than failing to accept even the slightest level of responsibility, (Murray) has placed blame on everyone else, including the one person no longer here to defend himself, Michael Jackson.”

Angelina Jolie‘s interview on Sunday night with 60 Minutes gave the actress a chance to reveal her unusual, alternate career plans: a funeral director.

“It sounds like this very strange, eccentric, dark thing to do but in fact I lost my grandfather and was very upset with his funeral,” she told correspondent Bob Simon.

“How somebody passes and how family deals with this passing and what death is should be addressed in a different way.

“If this whole acting thing didn’t work out that was going to be my path.”

The 36 year-old, first time director also praised her mother, the late Marcheline Bertrand.

“My mother was a full-time mother,” she said, tearing up. “She didn’t have much of her own career, her own life, her own experiences…everything was for her children.

“I will never be as good a mother as she was. She was just grace incarnate. She was the most generous, loving – she’s better than me.”

Jolie’s directorial debut, In The Land of Blood and Honey is in theaters on December 23rd.

Kylie Jenner and Cody Simpson spent an afternoon at The Grove shopping center in Los Angeles hanging out together but are they dating?

Jenner, 14, the youngest child of the Kardashian/Jenner family, met the 14 year-old Australian pop singer at The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1 and the two have reportedly started casually seeing each other.

Kylie and Cody took in a movie and are spending time together.

“Yes, they went on a date and have been inseparable since,” a source close to the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star told US Weekly.

“They are so cute together,” the source continued.

Neither Cody or Kylie have commented about the possible blooming romance – they are just teenagers after all and could be nothing more than friends.

Kylie is in the beginning stages of her modeling career having just signed with Wilhelmina Models agency.

Cody sang the hit single “I Want Candy” from the soundtrack to the animated tale Hop, released this past spring.

Prince William was part of a search and rescue operation after a distress call was sent by a sinking vessel in the Irish Sea.

Early Sunday morning, the Russian cargo ship Swanland was hit by a massive wave which cracked the hull, forcing the boat to roll and the sailors to attempt to abandon the ship.

Two of the ship’s eight crew members were found floating in the sea by clinging to life rafts.

The Duke of Cambridge and three others of the RAF’s search and rescue team on duty that night were able to hoist them to the safety of the helicopter. They also recovered a third sailor’s body.

The remaining five seamen are presumed lost at sea.

Prince William is on a three year assignment with the RAF and will be stationed in the Falkland Islands early next year.

Anne Hathaway has a wedding in her future.

The Love and Other Drugs actress is engaged to her boyfriend of three years, Adam Shulman.

Hathaway, 29, and Shulman, 30, sparked rumors of an engagement when the actress was spotted wearing what looked like an engagement ring over the weekend.

The ring design is a collaboration between Shulman and Kwiat Heritage Jewels according to a report by the LA Times.

Hathaway’s previous relationship to Italian businessman Raffaello Follieri came to an end when he was exposed for defrauding investors and he eventually plead guilty in October 2008.

It left the actress with a desire to be single but she said that Shulman came along and ‘ruined’ her plan.

“Yes, I have a boyfriend,” Hathaway told UK Harper’s Bazaar. “And yes, I am very much in love with him. But you do need to keep your private life private. Adam totally ruined my plan. I was really actually looking forward to a little alone time and then I fell in love like a fool!”

Hathaway will be Catwoman in the 2012 release The Dark Knight Rises and will join Hugh Jackman to film Les Miserables.

Miley Cyrus has a knack for finding friends that sell her out.

This time, the singer was at her 19th birthday party held at Beacher’s Madhouse in the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel when she was filmed saying some seemingly incriminating things.

Cyrus was given a cake with reggae singer/weed enthusiast Bob Marley‘s image on it and the singer took the microphone to poke fun at her own infamous bong-smoking past.

Cyrus, who was caught on tape last year after friends taped her smoking salvia, joked with the crowd:

“This is amazing. You know you’re a stoner when your friends make you a ‘Bob Miley’ cake. You know you smoke way too much f––ing weed,” Miley said on this new tape that surfaced from her party.

Cyrus’ close pal Kelly Osbourne, who organized the bash that included dancing dwarves and a “Super Bass” performance from a Nicki Minaj impersonator, was the one who presented her with the cake.

“I thought salvia was your problem, Miley,” Osbourne quipped after Cyrus handed her the mic.

Once again, someone from Miley’s party filmed it and now it’s found it’s way online.

Osbourne defended Cyrus through twitter and told people to lighten up on her friend.

“let me make something very clear after @MileyCyrus salvia incident we started calling her bob miley as a JOKE!”

“the cake was also A JOKE! it makes me sick that @MileyCyrus so called ‘friends’ would sell her out and lead people 2 believe she is someone that she is not!”

The E! Fashion Police host also noted Miley’s work ethic and said she works so constantly it would be just about impossible for Cyrus to be high all the time.

“u guys if @MileyCyrus is not recording/filming/touring she is works everyday how could she possible do all that if she was a stoner! #think.”

The b-day celebration had Miley’s boyfriend, Liam Hemsworth and both her parents, Tish and Billy Ray Cyrus in attendance as well as her friends Rumer Willis, Victoria Justice and Aly Michalka all hanging out and having a good time.

I feel for Cyrus. The whole situation sounds like she was poking fun at herself and people have taken the opportunity to show her in what too many will rush to judge as “a bad light.”

Selena Gomez has baby news of her own – she’s getting a younger sibling!

Gomez, who is currently dating pop star Justin Bieber, has been dealing with the baby drama of her boyfriend’s paternity suit from fan Mariah Yeater, is clearly happy about this little bambino announcement.

“Momma and Brian are finally letting me share the news… My mommys carrying my baby brother or sister,” the 19 year-old Monte Carlo actress tweeted along with a sweet photo of the two.

Gomez’ mother Mandy Teefey and her stepfather Brian Teefey are expecting their first child together.

This will be Selena’s first sibling and the age difference is something similar to her role in Ramona and Beezus, where she was the big sister to young actress Joey King‘s Ramona in the movie based on the beloved Beverly Cleary novels.

Congrats to Selena and her family.
