Beastie Boys Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch Has Died At Age 47
Beastie Boys founding member and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch has died today following a long illness at the age of 47.
The rapper had battled cancer of the salivary gland since his diagnosis in 2009.
Yauch and his fellow bandmates, Michael ‘ Mike D’ Diamond and Adam ‘Ad-Rock’ Horovitz put off their long-awaited album Hot Sauce Committee, Part 2 and cancelled shows to give Yauch time to get treatment for cancer. The Brooklyn-born Yauch had undergone surgery and radiation therapy to combat the cancer.
Yauch’s interests included filmmaking and he worked under the name Nathaniel Hornblower, directing the groups videos, including “Intergalatic” and “So What’cha Want” and the group’s concert film “Awesome: I F—-’ Shot That!”
The Beastie Boys were inducted into the Hall of Fame two weeks ago but Yauch was unable to attend.
He is survived by his wife, Dechen Wangdu and his daughter, Tenzin Lozel.
