Philip Seymour Hoffman Is ‘Catching Fire’ – Joins ‘The Hunger Games’ Sequel
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire casting is underway with Oscar winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman confirmed as Plutarch Heavensbee.
Plutarch is one of the main casting events for this film. The role of Finnick Odair and Johanna Mason are the other two big parts still left to cast. Johanna is said to have been offered to Jena Malone but no official announcement has been made.
The official synopsis was released today by Lionsgate: “THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.”
Hoffman, who has long been one of the top fan favorites for the role of the Head Gamemaker, will begin filming with Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth in the second adaptation of the books by Suzanne Collins.
Woody Harrelson, Lenny Kravitz, Elizabeth Banks and Donald Sutherland also costar.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is due in theaters November 22, 2013.
