“Every rose has its thorn,” sang rocker Bret Michaels back in 1988, and now he’s finding out how true that is. He and his longtime partner Kristi Gibson have called off their engagement.

His rep gave the following statement to People:

“Although the couple have separated they remain great friends and are committed to jointly raising their two daughters.”

Michaels and Gibson have been together off and on for about 18 years.  They have two children together, Jorja (7) and Raine (12).   He proposed to Gibson on his VH1 reality show in 2010.
