Natalie Portman’s Big Sur Wedding: Details!

Natalie Portman

Natalie Portman and her groom Benjamin Millepied celebrated their wedding last weekend in rustic, simple elegance with plenty of individual touches.

People provides these juicy details, which reveal the influence of Portman’s Jewish heritage and Millepied’s native France.

The couple held their Jewish marriage ceremony on a bluff in Big Sur on California’s central coast.  Portman wore a rather nontraditional, white tea-length dress with sheer sleeves and an asymmetrical hem, designed by her friends at Rodarte; she chose ballet flats instead of a shoe with a heel.   Millepied wore a midnight blue tuxedo.  Their chuppah – a canopy representing the home that the bridal couple are creating together – was constructed of twigs rather than the traditional cloth and poles.  Wildflowers were a repeating theme; the decor included only flowers that native to the Big Sur area, and guests received a packet of wildflower seeds as a favor.   The bride also wore wildflowers in her hair.

The reception, held at a private residence, featured a vegan meal and in lieu of wedding cake, French macarons for dessert.

I have to say that this sounds like exactly the kind of wedding I would expect from Natalie Portman… absolutely lovely, personal and nearly absent of Hollywood glam.   Mazel tov!
