Judge Removes ‘Modern Family’ Star Ariel Winter From Her Parents’ Care
A California judge has removed Modern Family star Ariel Winter from her mother’s care after determining that the 14 year old was being emotionally and physically abused.
Last month, Winter, who plays Alex Dunphy on ABC’s hit show, was temporarily placed in the care of her older sister, Shanelle Workman. TMZ, who broke the story, also reports that Chris Workman has been ordered to stay 100 yards away from her younger daughter.
There’s a history of abuse in this Hollywood family; Shanelle, a television and voice actor, spent two years in foster care after a similar finding of abuse by her mother 20 years ago.
The girls’ brother, Jimmy Workman (who played Pugsley in The Addams Family) says that their mother is innocent in both cases. Crystal has also defended herself, telling People:
“It’s all untrue…I have my doctor’s letter that my daughter’s never been abused. … I have stylists’ letters that she’s never been abused.”
Shanelle, who is sometimes credited as Shanelle Gray, has filed for legal guardianship of Winter. Another hearing has been set for November 20.
