Pop/punk fans have smartened up since the debut of Avril Lavigne, and even though she’s maintained somewhat of a fan base, it’s safe to say she’s nowhere near being as successful as she once was.  Well, according to the somewhat newlwed’s Myspace blog, she’s snagged a gig as the Canadian Ambassador for the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, China.

On Friday, I was in Vancouver and honored as the Canadian Ambassador for 2010 World Expo, Shanghai, China. It’s really exciting as it’s the first time China has ever hosted World Expo and the theme is “Better City, Better Life”. It’s really cool that over 200 countries and international organizations are coming together at World Expo, Shanghai to create a better future for the world. I’ve played 2 shows in Shanghai. It’s a great city and i look forward to visiting again next year. Avril.

Now the real question: can homegirl stop dressing like it’s two thousand and late?

In today’s slow music news, yet another 90′s alternative band has announced it’s reuniting for a “landmark” new album, and announcing a busy schedule of American tour dates.

It’s been five years since the band’s bitter split (accompanied by well-publicized smack talking – mainly from jilted singer Scott Stapp- who’s solo album bombed), but after various members reached out lately, they’ve seemed to settle their differences – for now.

“I wouldn’t call it a reunion,” says Stapp. “It’s a renewing and a rebirth. I missed my boys and wanted to create music with them again. We’re all thrilled to have a second chance to make a first impression.”

No, you’re not the only Pussycat Doll eyeing yet another shot at a solo career Nicole Scherzinger!  Smartly so (since all accounts indicate that a PCD breakup is very near), red-head Jessica Sutton has just finished shooting a video for her single with Trance god Paul Van Dyk – called “White Lies”.

Her trademark backup cane sex appeal has done anything but diminish, which makes this clip highly watchable, and surprise surprise – the girl can actually kinda sing!

Pop star Michael Jackson is obviously one of our most eccentric artists… of all time.  But he’s no match for 17th-century ghosts, says News of the World.  Jacko is overseas rehearsing for his comeback concert series at London’s O2 arena, and logistically so, he’s looking for a (temporary?) home.

Reports say that the superstar recently bought into myth of a haunting in his potential new home for the duration of the O2 performances, so much so that he refused to live there, fearing his kids might become targest for the Paranormal.

I don’t think I’m stating anything too unfair when I say that if his children can grow up looking at that “natural” mug, not a whole lot will/would phase them.

Now reportedly looking at a mansion 15 miles away from the concert arena, Jacko will reportedly fly into his venues.  The new location has an airtight security capability, and no history of ghosties.

It’s a Taylor toure de force! Taylor Swift sat down with Time magazine recently for a new photo shoot, and answered a few questions: one being who she’d like to collaborate with (musically of course).

On collaborating with another recording artist: “I would like to do a duet with Taylor Hanson, because I have loved Hanson since I was 8. And Taylor Hanson has an amazing voice. And also we’re both named Taylor.”

Swift wasn’t done gushing either.  The country darling had this to say on her Twitter:

There’s little question that Norwegian production duo Stargate is a force to be reckoned with – especially in the R&B crossover genre.  Notably, they rose to fame with Rihanna as their varitable muse with singles like “Unfaithful” and “Take a Bow”, and with more angst than ever in the starlet’s personal life, teammates Tor Erik Hermansen and Mikkel S. Eriksen have hinted that her newest work with them has been producing “inspiring” tracks for her upcoming album.

“She has a character about herself now in her voice and it’s great to see,” he said. “[It's] very inspiring for us.”

Eriksen wouldn’t reveal the names of any songs that they’ve been working on with Rihanna. “I don’t think we should talk about titles just yet,” he explained. “We don’t really know which songs are gonna make it, but it feels exciting.”

Hermansen said that although Rihanna has been through a lot this year, that isn’t the focus of the music they’ve been working on. “I think coming off of several million albums we have a lot to prove, regardless of what’s going on in her personal life,” he said when asked if Rihanna feels pressure to prove herself in light of the incident with Brown. “[We] leave her personal life to her.”

And yes, I read that entire quote in a Frau Farbisna voice.  So what?

No word, of course, on any official release date for this sure to be monster of an album.
