‘2012′ Wins Weekend over ‘Christmas Carol’

2012 Posterchristmas_carol_ver4

People would rather see the world falling apart than see a christmas movie, that was proven this past weekend (Nov 13 - 15) by the opening of Roland Emmerich’s 2012 which was at #1. A Christmas Carol was second to the special effects monster. There was nothing else new that made it into the top ten at all.

Mad Hatter Frolics on New ‘Alice in Wonderland’ Poster

Alice in Wonderland Poster

Here’s the latest poster for the upcoming film from director Tim Burton, Alice in Wonderland.

Stranger with every poster, I can’t help but feel a little weird about this movie. Johnny Depp is going to be interesting as this crazy character frolicking through the mushrooms.

New Blu-ray Releases Nov. 17th, 2009: Full List

Star Trek Blu-RayBruno Blu-ray

Blu-ray is the new standard, DVD is on its way out and every week they are releasing many films on the relatively new format. Here’s the full list of Blu-ray movies out this week on November 17th, 2009.

Star Trek is the big title of the week with a special edition from Amazon that even includes a replica of the Enterprise. Geek Alert! Some other great releases are the Fight Club: 10 Year Anniversary Edition (going on my christmas list), not to mention the Kevin Smith Box Set. The filthy, irreverent and almost unwatchable Brüno is also out.

‘Three Musketeers 3D’ Coming from ‘Resident Evil’ Director Paul W.S. Anderson

Three Musketeers

Paul W.S. Anderson is set to direct a new remake The Three Musketeers 3D.

Resident Evil: Afterlife producer Jeremy Bolt told us this morning on the Toronto set of the fourth installment that they are looking to start filming The Three Musketeers 3D in September of 2010.

Paul W.S. Anderson will direct the 3D movie, that Bolt described as “unlike anything you’ve seen.” The project, which carries an $80+ million budget, will be an action film with romance and have a contemporary feel.

Bolt said the Musketeers will be “packing” in terms of weapons and the weapons will be indicative of the time it’s set in.

Sounds like a money making machine, not a work of any artistic influence. Hopefully they can actually put something together that manages to entertain on a level deeper than explosions and fights.

Rachel McAdams Officially Playing Black Cat in ‘Spider-Man 4′?

rachel_mcadams

Rachel McAdams is rumored to be starring as a villain in Spider-Man 4.
Insiders says Rachel is a top contender for the role of Felicia Hardy, also known as the black cat. In the story, Spider-Man first encounters the Black Cat when she’s looking to free her sick father from prison. She becomes smitten with Spidey, to the point of a stalker-level obsession. Later stories had Peter reciprocating her affection and her becoming a lover, a friend and ally.
I hope she does get the role, she’d be great. I really hope this movie isn’t like Spider-Man 3, Raimi needs to take it back to the quality of the first two.

‘Thor’ Starts Shooting in January 2010

Thor

The new comic book movie Thor is set to start shooting in January of 2010!

Marvel Studios will kick-off principal photography for the Kenneth Branagh-directed Thor in Los Angeles in mid-January. The production will then move to Santa Fe, New Mexico from March until late-April.

The comic book adaptation is scheduled to hi theaters on May 20, 2011 and will be distributed by Paramount. Thor stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Jaimie Alexander, Colm Feore, Samuel L. Jackson and Stellan Skarsgard.

This movie is going to be big, the cast is all ready to go. I actually have a lot more interest in this one now that Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins are involved.

Taylor Lautner Talks About Stripping Down for ‘Twilight: New Moon’ (Video Interview)

Taylor Lautner Interview

Here’s a new video interview with The Twilight Saga: New Moon star Taylor Lautner where he talks about being half naked on set.

This movie has so much hype behind it I can hardly believe it. I suppose whatever the teen craze is at any given time will hog the spotlight. It’s just a shame that so many great movies never see even a fraction of the publicity that this one is getting.

‘Twilight: New Moon’ Director Chris Weitz Talks Vampires (Full Interview)

Chris Weitz New Moon

The director of the upcoming sequel The Twilight Saga: New Moon sat down with Dark Horizons for an interview about the upcoming film. Here’s what he had to say.

Question: After “The Golden Compass”, which possibly had franchise all over it, how reticent were you to take on another film that was in another franchise mold?

Weitz: I was raring to go, because I had been so disappointed by my experience with ‘Golden Compass’ which was meant to be longer. It was meant to flesh out Philip Pullman’s ideas more and really, the version that you saw had been cut to ribbons by the studio. So, I think that there are many good things about it, moments that I can be proud of in which the themes and the characters are right on. But there’s so much missing from it so I sort of felt like I really wanted to do it right this time. I sensed that Summit wanted to make a faithful adaptation of Stephanie’s book, so this was going to be my chance to redeem myself in the fantasy realm.

Question: Where is the dividing line that exists between your aims as a personal filmmaker, the needs of the source material, and the demands of the fans? I mean, do you feel that kind of pressure? Does it concern you at all, going into it?

Weitz: I didn’t feel a tremendous amount of pressure, because in terms of… what one really wants is for someone to go and see the movie that you’re going to make. So, I thought that was covered. I feel like when I’m adapting a novel, which is what I’ve done on the last three movies that I’ve made, my job is to be faithful to the material and to the fans, or rather to the fans’ perception of the book. I still have sort of tremendous freedoms that I enjoy, in terms of the visuals and how I’m expressing the tone and the way that I’m kind of improvising on the theme as it were. Kind of like a musical number. Maybe someday I will sit down, write my own script, and make it precisely the way that I want. But for me, this was precisely the version of New Moon that I wanted to make.

Incredibly Intriguing ‘A Single Man’ Trailer

A Single Man Still

The Yellow Handkerchief Still

Here’s the new trailer for the upcoming film The Yellow Handkerchief starring Kristen Stewart.

Although it’s a dramatic ‘chick flick’ this movie does actually look like it could have some quality and heartfelt performances. It’s nice to see Kristen Stewart doing something other than swoon over vampire lovers.

‘Extraordinary Measures’ Trailer with Brendan Fraser and Harrison Ford

Extraordinary Measures Poster

Here’s the new trailer for the upcoming film Extraordinary Measures starring Brendan Fraser and Harrison Ford.

This movie does look like it will be touching if nothing else. Harrison Ford isn’t in much nowadays, hopefully this role is meaty. From the looks of it there is some good drama, hopefully it’s not too happy-go-lucky. This is based on a true story and real life is seldom happy-go-lucky.

Much Better ‘Despicable Me’ Trailer

Despicable Me Title

Here’s the new trailer for the upcoming animated comedy Despicable Me.

Much better than the first version of the trailer, at least this time there is an indication as to what the story is about. This trailer reminds me of Spy Vs. Spy, but I hope there is more to it than that simple concept. The cast is certainly promising but I’m not excited.
