Russell Brand wrote a heartfelt message for his long time friend Amy Winehouse and the very talented but also very addicted person she was and reflecting on her life. Winehouse, 27, died in her home in London on Saturday.

The news of her death prompted Brand, 36, to recall the first time her met and heard her sing.

“I arrived late and as I made my way to the audience through the plastic smiles and plastic cups I heard the rolling, wondrous resonance of a female vocal. Entering the space I saw Amy on stage with [Paul] Weller and his band; and then the awe. The awe that envelops when witnessing a genius. From her oddly dainty presence that voice, a voice that seemed not to come from her but from somewhere beyond even Billie [Holiday] and Ella [Fitzgerald], from the font of all greatness. A voice that was filled with such power and pain that it was at once entirely human yet laced with the divine. My ears, my mouth, my heart and mind all instantly opened,” Russell wrote.

“Winehouse. Winehouse? Winehouse! That twerp, all eyeliner and lager dithering up Chalk Farm Road under a back-combed barnet, the lips that I’d only seen clenching a fishwife fag and dribbling curses now a portal for this holy sound. So now I knew. She wasn’t just some hapless wannabe, yet another pissed up nit who was never gonna make it, nor was she even a ten-a-penny-chanteuse enjoying her fifteen minutes. She was a f*****g genius.”

The news of Amy Winehouse‘s death is reverberating through her family, friends, fans and the music world and many have taken to twitter to express their grief.

Kelly Osbourne, a long-time friend of the troubled singer, shared her feelings of loss and heartbreak at losing her friend.

“i cant even breath right my now im crying so hard i just lost 1 of my best friends. i love you forever Amy & will never forget the real you!” she tweeted.

The cause of Winehouse’s death at age 27 is still under investigation but she has struggled with addiction in the past. Kelly and Amy’s father helped checked the “Back to Black” singer into rehab back in 2008.

Winehouse has had a few more tries since then to get sober and stay but as recently as last month, it appeared that the singer’s addiction reared it’s head again. Amy was booed off stage in Serbia and had to cancel the remaining tour dates.

But twitter being what it is, someone raised the question to Kelly about helping Winehouse. Osbourne responded angrily:

“are you f****** kidding me you have NO idea what you are talking about! it would be in your best interest to shut the f*** up!”

Osbourne is leaving twitter for a little while and sent one final message to friends and fans.

“i miss my friend! im going to be off twitter for a while thank you for all your support! #pray4amy”

Singer Amy Winehouse has been found dead in her home in London. She was just 27 years-old.

The troubled singer was found after an ambulance was called but they were unable to help her by the time they arrived.

The London Metro Police released the following statement:

“Police were called by London Ambulance Service to an address in Camden Square NW1 shortly before 16.05hrs today, Saturday 23 July, following reports of a woman found deceased.”

“On arrival officers found the body of a 27-year-old female who was pronounced dead at the scene.”

“Enquiries continue into the circumstances of the death. At this early stage it is being treated as unexplained.”

Amy was recently booed off stage in Serbia after a disastrous appearance and canceled all tour dates in Turkey and Greece. The talented musician was having troubles again after leaving rehab early.

Her US record label released a statement on the loss of Winehouse to her family and the music world.

“We are deeply saddened at the sudden loss of such a gifted musician, artist and performer. Our prayers go out to Amy’s family, friends and fans at this difficult time.”

What a sad time for her family.

Looks like Amy Winehouse should have stayed in rehab a bit longer after all.  Following the shortest rehab ever, Amy kicked off her European tour with an embarrassing display of erratic (read:  drunken?) behavior.

Amy stumbled on stage nearly an hour late for her show in Belgrade, Serbia.  Concertgoers say that she

“appear[ed] unable to remember the lyrics to her songs. She dropped the microphone, mumbled through her songs and occasionally disappeared, leaving her band to keep on playing.”

In other words she was kind of acting like her usual self.

Angry fans jeered and booed, and many “walked out in disappointment.”  One woman commented:

“It was horrible. She should have canceled the whole thing, rather than appear at all like this.”

A statement from Amy’s rep explained that she was canceling upcoming concert dates in Turkey and Greece, but that it was not yet clear whether she would be able to complete the tour.  She apologized to fans who were looking forward to seeing her, but asserted that she felt that cancelling shows at this point “was the right thing to do.”

Smart move.  Now, the next right thing to do is to check herself right back in at the Priory and not leave until she’s really able to stay sober.

Was that the shortest rehab stay ever?  After only about a week and a half, Amy Winehouse is out of treatment and back on the streets.  Apparently a quick tune up was all Miss Wino needed prior to setting off on tour.  Her rep explained:

‘Amy Winehouse has completed her assessment at the Priory Clinic in London and will continue as an outpatient.

‘She is now looking forward to playing shows around Europe this summer and is raring to go.  She would like to send a huge thanks to all her fans for the messages of support she has received over the last week and can’t wait to see them.’

Amy’s tour starts in Serbia and takes her through Turkey, Greece, Spain, and several other European countries.  Although I have little faith that she’s going to keep sober, let’s hope for the best.

It’s back to the drunk tank for Amy Winehouse.  Despite her father Mitch Winehouse‘s claims about her “miraculous” and “fantastic” recovery back in 2009, she is back in rehab again.  Are you really surprised?  I mean, look at this, and this, and eeeww, this.

Amy checked herself in at the Priory drug rehab clinic in London this week.

Her spokesperson confirmed:

‘Amy Winehouse has embarked on a treatment programme at the Priory Clinic.  She wants to be ready for performances in Europe this summer and decided to seek an assessment.  She will remain at the Priory on doctors’ advice.’

At least she didn’t say “no, no, no.”

Evidently determined to make every last minute count, Amy was spotted picking up a mini bottle of Smirnoff vodka on her way to the Priory.

I have to admit, I am surprised that she can possibly still be alive, with all the chemical damage she’s done to her body.  Let’s hope for Amy’s sake that this round of rehab actually sticks.

Amy Winehouse has debuted her second collection for British sportswear brand Fred Perry.    It’s not a whole lot different than her previous collection, to be honest:  we’ve got the requisite argyle sweater, halter tops and dresses, cropped pants, and shirts that tie at the waist.  Oh wait, you mean clothes that look just like the stuff Amy wears all the time?  Well, I told you it was similar to the last batch of clothes she created.  Color seems to be the main difference in this collection, which prominently features red.

Unless Amy comes up with some new ideas, you can probably expect more of the same for quite some time:  rumor has it that Amy’s signed on for a five year contract with Fred Perry.

Amy Winehouse on vacation is always a great story.  You just never know what will happen.   This time, Amy’s befriending the local fauna in Barbados.  The Sun UK reports:

“Amy has made friends with a monkey. It came up to her and she fed it and it’s been following her around.  She’s been telling friends how much she loves it and would love to bring it back with her.”

A pet monkey – the present you get for the crackhead who has everything.

Apparently in between all the crazy, Amy Winehouse has been working with British sportswear firm Fred Perry on a line of clothing.  And guess what?  It looks just like what you’d think a Wino collection would look like.  I can totally see her wearing every single one of these pieces… which pretty much guarantees that I will not be enamored of any of it.  The argyle sweater is awfully cute, but the rest of it is just eh. To tell you the truth, I’m surprised there aren’t any exposed undergarments on display here.

What’s better (worse) than one strung out, nasty druggie?  TWO strung out, nasty druggies!   Amy Winehouse has offered her old partying friend Pete Doherty a place to live in London while he’s working on his new album with The Libertines.    A friend says:

“She thinks a lot of him and they’ve been through a lot together so she wants to help him out. But pals are worried because they are bad influences on each other.”

Ya think?  This is the worst idea in the history of ideas.  In 2009, Pete said he was done with drugs but just a few months later he was found on an airplane shooting up!  As for Wino… if she IS clean, she has clearly permanently damaged her brain with all the smack because she is just one big mess.   And you know what happens when people who used to party together start hanging out again.   I say no, no, no….
