A Banksy style tribute to the late singer Amy Winehouse appeared in Camden, North London near her favorite pub.
The graffiti style of artwork shows Amy with angel wings, her beehive hairdo and tattoos and wearing a short skirt. The art appeared near Hawleys Arms Pub, which Amy frequented.
It was finally confirmed – it is not a Banksy work – the artist’s rep said. It is thought to be a work by another artist who is known as Pegasus.
Winehouse died on July 23rd at her home. She was 27 years old. A private burial ceremony is set to take place on July 26th.
You may not recognize his name immediately, but lots of us learned to draw through one of Ed Emberley’s books: Ed Emberley’s Drawing Book of Animals, Big Green Drawing Book, The Thumbprint Drawing Book and so many more have given kids (and adults) the confidence to create and cultivate personal expression.
The amazing illustrator will have the original 1970s mock-ups of his work on display in Culver City, California along with other artists work who were influenced by him at Scion Installation gallery. Five artists: Raul Gonzalez, Seonna Hong, Matt Leines, Christopher Kline and Saelee Oh will take part in the exhibit: Ed Emberley & Friends.
For “Ed Emberley & Friends,” each artist will create a six-foot-by-six-foot wood panel that is a mash-up of their own style and that of Ed Emberley’s instructional drawing books. The tribute paintings will be exhibited alongside examples of each artist’s individual work. After the show, each of the large painted panels will be donated for long-term display in children’s hospitals around the United States.
I love that the tribute works will be donated to children’s hospitals around the country and contribute to kids developing a creative mind at a time when their spirits might be lowest.
The opening reception takes place July 17th and the exhibit runs until August 7th. If your in L.A. check it out. Go the Scion’s website to find out more.
Rock n roll and Harley-Davidson rebellion. Rock posters and outsider art all come together tonight in New York City for a one night show “The Art Of Rebellion” at LaVenue Saturday, October 17th. 10 up and coming artists were chosen to represent the spirit of adventure and wildness that Harley-Davidson has been synonymous with for over 30 years.
Harley-Davidson created ART OF REBELLION as a forum for artists to showcase their work and interact with other artists, galleries and media, as well as give them the needed opportunity and exposure to help further their careers and leverage their credibility in the art scene. For the show, each artist will paint one Harley-Davidson Iron 883TM gas tank and they will also sell signature art posters at the show. The Iron 883–part of the Harley-Davidson’s Dark Custom line which fuses minimalist design with a vintage feel–evokes the adventurous spirit of the dawn of the 60’s motorcycle rebellion.
A portion of the proceeds benefits the CUE Arts Foundation – a non profit group that provides funding and resources for artists of all different levels.
