Vogue’s Best Dressed Women Of 2011: Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen

Vogue has compiled its Best Dressed Women list for 2011.  This year they’ve gone with a sibling theme, and the two who rose to the top of the list might surprise you:  Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.    But these sisters have really transformed their sense of style in the last couple of years, rising from the ranks of the blandly safe (Ashley) and the truly disastrous (Mary-Kate, over and over again) to fashion mavens in their own right.  They have two fashion lines (The Row and Elizabeth and James) recently launched a T-shirt style website (StyleMint), and in 2009, they were admitted to the CDFA.   And they’ve proven that they are actually capable of going out in public looking pretty good.

Other famous sisters who made the list include Beyonce and Solange KnowlesElle and Dakota Fanning, and, of course, Pippa Middleton and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge.   Visit Vogue for the complete list, or pick up a copy of the 2011 Best Dressed Special Edition on November 15th.

Have you visited Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen‘s website, Stylemint?   The twins offer their own exclusive t-shirt designs each month along with videos and personalized style profiles.

Mary-Kate and Ashley promote their new styles each month with a super-cute promo video, and August’s offering has them splashing in an inflatable wading pool.   Ashley gets so soaked that she has to cover herself with her arms!  I guess their tees are good for wet t-shirt contests as well as everyday wear!

Ashley Olsen At 2011 Met Gala

Ashley Olsen was heavenly at the 2011 Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum in New York City on Monday, May 2nd.

The 2011 Met Gala, as it’s more commonly known, featured an exhibit, the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty retrospective, which honored the late designer’s body of work.

The fashion designer herself decided to go vintage in a Christian Dior number – black strapless gown with billowing and gathered white sleeves and a very revealing slit up the skirt. Her minimal make up and loosely pulled back hair completed her look.

Tribeca Film Festival Opens With ‘The Union’ & Elton John Appearance

Elton John gave a free performance for the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City that opened with the Cameron Crowe film The Union.

The film documents the making of the 2010 John album of the same name where he and singer/songwriter Leon Russell reunite after having not spoken for 38 years.

“I can’t believe it’s happening,” Elton told Entertainment Tonight at the 10th edition of the festival, started after the 9/11 tragedy to bring tourism back to the city.

“When we started making this documentary we never dreamt about Tribeca or any film festival. We just wanted to put it down on record and here we are in New York at this incredible event.”

The behind-the-scenes look at the process of John, Russell and lyricist Bernie Taupin as the three put together the critically acclaimed album is the first of two Crowe music-themed films . He has a Pearl Jam documentary due later this year as well.

Crowe’s most famous musical offering, Almost Famous, was a fictionalized tale that put actress Kate Hudson on the map when it was first released.

More photos of John and fellow attendees Martin Scorsese, Anna Kendrick, Ashley and Mary Kate Olsen and Zoe Kravitz are below.
