Singer Brandy Norwood was profiled in VH1′s Behind The Music this week, a show I often find sad, and never moreso than when the subject is a child or teen star.   Brandy’s episode did nothing to dispel this perception.  The singer, whose 1994 song “I Wanna Be Down” catapulted her to fame when she was just 15 years old, revealed that she was deeply unhappy despite her fame.

She said:

“People don’t understand that being the hottest star or making the most money does not mean anything.  I’m here to tell you I was making so much money — I was omnipresent — and I was the unhappiest teenager probably in the world.”

Brandy’s negative feelings manifested themselves in an eating disorder.   She admitted:

“I wanted to be so thin. That was my main thing.   So I started not taking care of myself – not eating properly, not eating at all, diet pills, regurgitating, and all of these things that girls do.”

These days, Brandy’s got a lot more on her mind.  She’s focused on her 9 year old daughter, Sy’rai, and her new gig on BET’s The Game.  Much better times!

Kerry Washington looked positively beautiful as she attended the 4th Annual Essence Black Women In Hollywood luncheon in Beverly Hills.

The event, held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel featured celebs like Angela Bassett, Garcelle Beauvais, Gabrielle Union, Brandy Norwood and Serena Williams at the annual pre-Oscar party.

Washington was a fashion standout wearing a lovely ivory patterned dress with sweetheart and draped neckline and wide belt with gold detailing. Her hair and accessory choice of just earrings were perfect.

Singer Brandy looked stunning at her brother Ray J‘s birthday party this weekend!  He celebrated the big 3-0 at Pure Nightclub at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas.   Her dress is so simple, but so gorgeous – and as always, her huge smile is the best accessory of all.   Happy Birthday, Ray!

Brandy has recovered from her shocking elimination from DWTS and has lived to smile another day, making an appearance at US Weekly’s Hot Hollywood event held at The Colony in Hollywood.

Am I still happy she got the boot?  You better believe it!

Between Lauryn Hill, Mya, and now Brandy, you could say I’m feeling a little nostalgic today. But good news! The singer whose brother Ray J is getting more shine than she these days, has had one hell of a year (credited to her manslaughter trial for her involvement in a Los Angeles auto-accident that took the life of a young mother [for which she was declared not guilty]). With her long-worked-on album, and this rumored lead single the former R&B princess may just be working her way back up the industry food chain.

I dig the new single “The List”, and while it might not be a club banger in its own right, it’s still refreshing to hear those lofty melodies again (remember how classic she sounded on “Full Moon”?).
