Sarah Jessica Parker is best known for being a fashion icon thanks to her role as Carrie Fisher in Sex and the City. Apparently now she is also a reality tv show developer!

Bravo has announced that it has picked up American Artist, Sarah Jessica Parker’s new Project Runway-like reality competition series for aspiring artists. Each episode of American Artist will feature the show’s contestants competing in art-themed challenges from a range of disciplines — including sculpture, painting, photography and industrial design — and completing works of art that will be appraised by a panel of top figures in the art world, including fellow artists, gallerists, collectors, curators and critics.

American Artist’s winner will receive a gallery show, a cash prize and a sponsored national tour.

Bravo is really grasping at straws here trying to fill the ginormous shoes of Project Runway. They have also developed new series for Work Out star Jackie Warner and former Runway finalist Laura Bennett.

Jackie’s Gym Takeover, Warner’s new reality series, will use a Kitchen Nightmares-like format and feature Warner visiting struggling gym owners and using her own gym ownership and entrepreneurial experience to help the owners turn their failing businesses around.

Bennett — who finished third on Project Runway’s Summer 2006 third season — will star in Laura Bennett, the working title of a new docu-reality series that will follow the fashion designer as she juggles her career with her personal life, which includes her husband, six children (five of them boys), and a band of misbehaving family pets.

I’ll be interested to see how all of these shows do. The only one I will likely tune in for is SJP’s American Artist. Will you watch any of these new developments?

Vicki Gunvalson is easliy the most annoying and skin-crawl inducing housewife on The Real Housewives of Orange County. She has spent half the season berating the newer cast members and her husband (causing specualtion she may be leaving the show). She recently sat down for an in-depth interview about her experiences with the show, and we’ve got the highlights including her relationship with Don, with Gretchen, which housewives she misses, and whether she’s coming back for another season:

I want to give you the opportunity to set the record straight then. Go ahead and address the many misperceptions that viewers may have of you.

Much of the misperception is that I’m not compassionate or I’m not soft-hearted. I cry and I pray every day, and I do all of the things that make me whole. That’s not portrayed out there because maybe I didn’t expose it to the cameras. I am sensitive. I’m probably one of the most misunderstood people on TV. People just don’t understand me yet, and they’re never going to from only getting seven minutes of me a week. That’s the hard part. They don’t show me going to church every week. They don’t show me praying and reading my Bible every night. (Wow, really?!! She’s the least Christ-like person EVER) That’s personal. They don’t show me crying with my kids, saying, “Am I doing a good job as a mother?” and their saying, “Absolutely, Mom.” They don’t show all of that. They show me controlling them, being a screaming and woo-hooing person. And I’m not. I wake up every day and work out. I go to work and then I make dinner for my family. We have a great family, and this year we’ve lost some of that on TV.

Viewers will want to know how things are going with you and your husband, Donn.

Amazing. We just got back from Puerto Vallarta. We went into a tough season – and all marriages have a season — and I don’t think the show has been good for our marriage. But we actually sat down about a month ago and I said, “I really hurt Donn’s feelings.” I sent him flowers and cards, and told him how sorry I was and how I didn’t want to lose him as a husband. I love him. He accepted my apology and said that he hadn’t been the perfect husband either and maybe he wasn’t “filling the love tank.” But he said, “I love you more than anything and don’t want to divorce you. I don’t want you to divorce me. I want to live forever with you.” We made a conscious decision to be better toward each other. And it’s been amazing.

The most anal, annoying, bossy, crazy, loud, unattractive, over-bearing, obnoxious housewife of Orange County might not be returning for the show’s fifth season. Vicki Gunvalson had “no comment” when asked if she would come back.

According to E! News, Don Gunvalson — Gunvalson’s husband of 14 years — now “100 percent” regrets the couple’s participation in the reality show.

“He’s a vice president of a company. He has to go to work the next day, and he has people saying, ‘Wow your wife really trashed ya again last night,’” Gunvalson told E! News. “For a man, it’s horrible. All I could say to him is, ‘Honey, I love you. I’m sorry. Let’s get past it.’ And he was like, ‘You should have thought about that when you were blabbing about your stupid love tank.’”

Gunvalson says she and her husband have since gotten through their problems and now have an “amazing marriage,” but having to relive some of the marriage’s darker moments on television every week during the show’s fourth season has been ”embarrassing.”

I don’t know how Don puts up with her crap, but I am all for putting families and marriages first, so if it’s affecting home life- which it HAS to be- I say she quits. Plus she is psycho and watching her kind of makes me looney. Take a nod from Lauri and put family first, Vicks.

The cooking show that made cooking cool, Top Chef, premieres it’s new season tomorrow night on Bravo. This time all the action will heat up in the city that never sleeps, New York. I don’t know about you, but I could NOT be more excited.

Recently, host Padma Lakshmi and judge Tom Colicchio spoke about the new season.

“I was so excited for it to be in New York. I really was,” Lakshmi told reporters during a Friday conference call.  “I mean I’m very proud of this show for, you know, like not only going to fine restaurants… but also really looking at the city holistically,” Laksmi said.

Colicchio added, “What’s interesting about this season, it was somewhat of a difficult shoot.  Usually if we’re on location somewhere else we sort of create our own little universe,” Colicchio told reporters.  “I think because we were shooting in New York and we all live in New York, we’re going back to our regular lives as soon as we were off the set, at least I was.”

“Obviously shooting in New York lent itself to a lot of just amazing things that New York has to offer - you know, a lot of different ethnic cuisines,” he said.  “That sort of worked itself into the challenges at a lot of different locations.”

Top Chef: New York’s 17 contestants range from 21- to 44-years-old, hail from across the country and have a wide variety of culinary credentials.  “They’re an interesting bunch,” said Lakshmi.  “I thought they really held their own. I think the one thing I noted this season is that it was really interesting to watch the evolution of more than a few of them.  I think they really are - were very quick learners. And so some of the contestants over the course of the challenges and weeks really surprised us.”

Lakshmi added the amount of food and lack of time does make the judges’ job more difficult. “The amount of food consumed is staggering,” she said.  “And also, we — especially in the first half of the show when we have so many contestants — you know, I feel and I’m sure Tom would agree the (onus) is on us to make sure we sample every contestant’s dish adequately, you know, in fairness. So it does become difficult.”

Responding to critics comments that the show is more about mass-media production that discipline and technique, Lakshmi had this to say.

“I think that Top Chef also does a great service in informing people about food and cooking technique, and eating right and using good local ingredients,” she said.  “You’ll see that a lot, especially on this season.  And so for that, too, I think it - yes it has - TV has changed the way people look at food for the good, you know, for the better I believe.”

I am a huge fan of the show and can’t wait for tomorrow’s premiere!!!

With the Bravo network losing Project Runway- the show that put it on the map- they are now reportedly replacing it with somewhat of a copycat.

Bravo announced Thursday it has picked up a new U.S. fashion design creative competition series called “The Fashion Show.” The winner is to be chosen by viewers and will have his or her designs sold by a retailer. The announcement was made by Frances Berwick, executive vice president and general manager of Bravo Media.

Bravo celebrates the very best in food, fashion, design, beauty and pop culture, and ‘The Fashion Show’ is the next step in expanding our fashion affinity group, and the perfect complement to our successful fashion series ‘Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style‘ and ‘The Rachel Zoe Project,’” Berwick said in a statement.

I doubt this show will do for Bravo what Project Runway did, but at least they will somewhat fill the void it left behind… and it’s pretty cool the viewers get to choose. The winner will probably be less high fashion than if editors and prominent designers chose, but I guess it will be more for the everyday girl.

This week’s challenge of Project Runway had the contestants all designing for each other… with a twist. Each contestant also had a musical genre to design under. They would be both designers and models. So Korto made an outfit for Suede as a punk dude. Suede designed for Jarell, but under the pretense of rock ‘n roll. Jarell created a pop look for Kenley. Kenley constructed a hip-hop design for LeAnne (yes, it was hilarious). And the best was LeAnne designing a country music star look for Korto.

Kenley seemed to think that a fitted, high-waisted jean with a floral top and shrunken black leather jacket was hip-hop… which was very unfortunate for her when LL Cool J was the guest judge. (All she kept saying was that she didn’t wanna do something oversize and make LeAnn look stupid… but the crotch hanging to her knees and that dreadful outfit made her look great! Riiiight!) Of course, she blamed LeAnn for not selling the outfit and not having the hip-hop attitude, but the design was ugly on all accords, and it was SO not hip hop. Kenley also got snippy with Nina Garcia and Tim Gunn when they critiqued her. And she once again said she would not fix anything that Tim suggested (which totally hurt her at panel). Suede’s rock ‘n roll outfit was rather understated, and the judges thought that Jarell’s normal look was more creative than Suede’s look. He was trying to not be cliche, but the judges felt he was just boring.

Korto created a cool look for Suede’s punk alter-ego and he totally rocked it out. She made jeans and distressed them, plus created a cool punk, ripped up top. My favorite was Jarell’s look for Kenley. She was pop star all the way, and she even looked halfway attractive when not dressed in clothes from 5 decades ago. And LeAnne’s country star skirt and Dolly Parton top was ok, but I was pretty disappointed in the look as a whole.

In the end, Suede and Kenley were in the bottom, and Kenley managed to scrape by again. Suede was out, and he was very humble and diplomatic about it, which I am sure Kenley will not be. Her on-stage temper tantrum was so uncalled for, her disrespect to Tim was downright rude, and clips from next week show her getting into with Heidi Klum. Seriously?! GO HOME!!!

This week’s challenge on Project Runway was not the typical “mother/daughter” challenge we have seen in seasons past. This time it was the designers’ goal to create a look for a recent college grad, entering the work force, that both she and her mom loved. Kenley was her usual cocky, arrogant, degrading of others self. She managed to snag a mini-me client with the exact style she had who pretty much wanted to be her, so her uncreative and uninspired look made it into the top three. Gag me. Jarrell and Korto both killed it, so they joined her in the top 3. Jarrell won, and his look will be featured in an add for Tresemme in Elle Magazine.Kenley was obviously mad she didn’t win, because after all, she deserves it EVERY WEEK in her twisted mind.

Leanne ended up in the bottom- not because the look was terrible, but it wasn’t flattering or very practical. Joe and Suede’s were both horrible, but once again, Joe’s stood out from the pack from being far and away the ugliest and tackiest garment. He put a spunky, cute graphic designer in a navy pinstripe skirt suit that looked like it was made for a 60 year old. Thankfully, he was sent packing. Now, we just gotta get rid of Suede and Kenley and the three talents might actually make it to the finals (even though they all made it to the runway for Fashion Week in Bryant Park)

Next week we get to see Kenley throw a tantrum at judging. Shocking!

After Terri praised the auf’ing of Stella on Project Runway, the show’s editing made it abundantly clear that she would be gone. But not until we saw the bickering of her with arch-nemsis Keith when they brought back the outed contestants to help with the avant garde challange. Ok, first of all- none of these designers are NEAR the caliber of last year’s winner Christian Siriano, so why do a challenge that rivals his glorious creation? They brought back some fav

orites from seasons past to judge the garments with an astrological inspired design. After Christian told Terri how ugly her piece was, she fixed it… But it still looked like a cheap Lion King costume.

LeAnn and Emily’s was the best, but somehow Jarrell and Jennifer won. Blayne got partnered up with Stella and the show began all over again. His weird sayings, her hammering the leatha. Kenley was VERY over confident in her design and was completely shocked and mortified to be in the bottom. I’ve had about enough of her. Cute hair and 50s flair can only get you so far when you’re that obnoxious.

In the end, Keith got his revenge and Terri got booted, along with Blayne. None of these people are the next Christian, Jeffrey or Santino… They all need to step it up. I say they dump Kenley and Joe and bring back Emily and Kelly. That would be way better!!

As we all know, Project Runway was scooped up by Lifetime after being dumped by Bravo (the morons). Now we are being told that we have to wait until January for another season once this uber boring season ends.

“With this move, the series will resume its traditional cycle of two seasons per year,” said a Lifetime spokeperson. “We look forward to ringing in the New Year by giving Project Runway loyal fans a superlative season six with Heidi Klum, Tim Gunn, Nina Garcia, and Michael Kors. The new date and time will be announced soon.”

While I am super excited about the show getting a bit of a face lift, I am not thrilled that it’s getting put on cheesy girl-power channel Lifetime. Hopefully they will get some contestants with personality this time!

Looks like the guy everyone loved to hate on Top Chef has gotten himself into a little bit of trouble. Marcel Vigneron, runner-up of season 2, was popped for DUI early Saturday morning in Laguna Beach. He was stopped for speeding, but after showing signs of intoxication was given a blood test and arrested.  Bail was set at $2,500. Sucks for him that he didn’t win that $100k grand prize now, huh?

Project Runway mentor Tim Gunn gave Michelle Obama his vote… for best dressed first-lady wannabe.

“No contest, Michelle,” he said at the Tide and Downy’s Fashion Care launch at the Empire Hotel’s Pool Deck in NYC.

“She epitomizes class and style,” he added. “She looks approachable.”

“Cindy, on the other hand - with her button-down suits and blouses - looks like she’s duct-taped,” the Project Runway star said.

“Her fashion is a metaphor for her personality,” he added.

On the finale of ‘Shear Genius‘, the contestants had to make-up a story of a woman and display it her life through hairstyles at ages 18, 30, 45, and 60. Dee thought of a rock-star who moved to LA at 18 and had success at different levels throughout life. Charlie had the story of a child star who went on to become a famous film maker. And Nicole told the story of her mom… the “it” girl at 18 who went on to make a family and a life for herself.

They each had a different hair color and only 3 hours to create all four looks. It was madness to say the least. They also got a meeting with editor-in-chief of Allure Magazine with some tips for what to work on. Nicole on her styling, Dee on variety (duh), and Charlie on not making them look old.

Nicole was the first eliminated, as two of her girls’ looks really weren’t complete. Charlie went back to his roots of the “iconic” beauty, but Kim Vo thought it looked a burrito on the 18 year old’s hair, so Dee’s work was crowned Shear Genius. She actually did 4 completely different looks and the story totally made sense. Plus, they were redheads like me, so I was a bit partial

On last night’s episode of Project Runway, we saw more “wackadoodles” from Suede, more use of “licious” from Blayne and the same boring “leatha” from Stella. I am starting to wonder if any of these people have a personality. The designers got ‘revved up” for this challenge as they had to create an innovative look of their choice out of car parts from Saturn View Hybrid.

Some people got really creative. Korto weaved seat belts to assemble a mackin’ coat dress that anyone chic could wear. Guest Judge Rachel Zoe said she wants to wear it now! Jarelle was praised for his futuristic, fashion-forward, wearable style. LeAnn ended up winning with her cocktail dress creation with very different lines and curves.

Keith and Stella were the bottom two. Keith, for creating something that was boring, ugly and not well made. He blamed his model, the hair and make-up people and the judges without ever taking responsibility for the garment. Stella tried creating a skirt to go with her- shocking- leather vest, but the two pieces didn’t mesh and it ended up a big mess.

They finally sent Keith home, and he left in tears. Lots and lots of tears.

The finale of Shear Genius Season 2 airs tonight on Bravo at 10pm eastern time. Cutie pie Nicole, firecracker Dee and flamboyant Charlie all made it to the finals and it’ll be awesome to see their last challenge. Come back here tomorrow for the recap!

The Shear Genius stylists had an hour and a half to create personality-inspired, compelling looks for their Short Cut challenge models. A little while in, Jaclyn Smith revealed that the stylists were “double-booked”, and their second clients were the identical twins of the first! Now the contestants had to uncover and exemplify the personality of both clients with their own individual styles. Her second surprise was that the short-cut winner would be guaranteed a spot in the final three. Hair stylist powerhouse Jose Eber was guest judge, and it was time to step it up! By taking a chance and completely changing the twins’ looks, Nicole took home top honors and secured her immunity for the week.

The elimination challenge was to create an avant-garde look to reflect the four seasons. The stylists were working with celebrity and fashion photographer, Michael Grecco. Basically, he introduced them to some really plain, boring sets and told them they had to make it avant-garde. Nice.

A couple people brought what they always bring. Daniel gave us big hair with lots of extensions. Dee brought that same cut with the same color throughout. Michael demoralized and demeaned every one of them, but he was especially tough on Daniel. He liked absolutely nothing about it and made that very clear, over and over again to anyone who would listen. Kim Vo even told him that his style was like taking a laxative and sleeping pill on the same night. Ouch.

Charlie won the challenge because of the flexibility of the style and his ability to make it what Michael wanted. He and Nicole were safe, so it was down to Dee and Daniel. The judges were sick of seeing the same look from Dee week after week, challenge after challenge. With Daniel, it was the disappointment of him not creating something at all appropriate for the photo shoot and using too much product (shocker there!) In the end, Daniel, the diva from Dallas was sent packing, leaving Dee as the third person in the finale next week.
