Critics: ‘X-Men: First Class’ is Best Marvel Movie Yet!

X-Men: First Class is getting rave reviews from the critics, many saying it’s the best Marvel film yet! Here are some snippets from various reviewers:

Smartly scripted, smoothly directed and well-acted. Not just the best film in the series, but the best adaptation of a Marvel comic title yet. - Garth Franklin

A blast of colorful and passionate enthusiasm with just enough weight to matter. – Katey Rich

The best praise I can give X-Men: First Class is that it’s a wonderful movie, not just a wonderful X-Men movie or a wonderful Marvel movie or a wonderful superhero movie. It’s a damn good film, full stop, all other genres and ghetto-izations aside.  - Devin Faraci

Big and bold and aggressively told, it feels to me like this is the first film in a brand-new franchise, and I think Fox just got it right, really right, in a way they haven’t on any of their Marvel films so far. – Drew McWeeny

That’s just a few of the reviews! As of now on the Rottentomatoes.com tomato meter score is 100%! That’s a rare sight, which I’m sure will change in coming days. I’m suddenly actually quite excited to see it myself, especially after all the doubt I’ve cast in recent months. I’ll be seeing this at a midnight show, my glimmer of hope that this movie would be really good seems to be coming to fruition. I think it’s largely due to Bryan Singer (director of the first two X-Men films) being the producer of this project.

First Look: ‘Jack the Giant Killer’ Starring Ewan McGregor (Images)

Here are the first images of Ewan McGregor on the set of the upcoming film Jack the Giant Killer from director Bryan Singer.

When a princess is kidnapped, a long-standing peace between men and giants becomes threatened, and a young farmer is given an opportunity to lead a dangerous expedition to the giant kingdom to rescue her.

These images reveal a different kind of movie than I was imagining. It looks much more like a medieval times story than a fantasy story. Bryan Singer is a great director so I have a lot of faith in this movie coming out well. McGregor is always good too, he’s always passionate in his roles. Look for this movie in theaters June 15th, 2012.

Nice New ‘X-Men: First Class’ Posters

Here are the two new posters for the upcoming prequel X-Men: First Class.

I like the refection effect on these posters but this movie isn’t looking all that great to me overall. The first two X-Men movies were the only good ones so far and Bryan Singer directed both.  I’m hoping his involvement as the film’s producer will help bring back the magic.

Nicholas Hoult is ‘Jack the Giant Killer’

Actor Nicholas Hoult has been cast as the lead in Bryan Singer‘s Jack the Giant Killer.

Until today, there was no Jack. Now, just after we heard he was on a shortlist, the role has been offered to Nicholas Hoult, who had an early breakout role in About a Boy, then appeared in the original UK version of Skins, had a big role in A Single Man, and plays Beast in the Bryan Singer-produced X-Men: First Class.

Hoult is one of those few child actors making a transition into adult acting, and doing it quite gracefully. Yes, he was the little boy in About a Boy, doesn’t seem like it was that long ago but he’s all grown up. Bryan Singer is clearly a fan, putting him in the new X-Men movie he’s producing and the lead in this one. Jack the Giant Killer should be an interesting twist on the old story.

Bryan Singer’s ‘Jack the Giant Killer’ Goes All Natural

Bryan Singer (X-Men, X-Men II) is directing a new film Jack the Giant Killer and he’s planning to use a lot of natural light instead of the usual extreme hollywood lighting. He talked about his plans for the film, check it out:

I’m very much looking forward to using the EPIC Red for my next movie Jack the Giant Killer which will be shot in, what else, 3D. The camera’s incredibly compact size and extraordinary resolution are ideal for the 3D format.

But more importantly Jack the Giant Killer is my first movie set in a time before electricity. The EPIC’s extraordinary exposure latitude will allow me to more effectively explore the use of natural light.

Supposedly the movie is kind of an adult version of the original Jack and the Beanstalk. I’m always impressed by Singer‘s work, I’m sure this will be a continuation of that. He’s already stepped into the realm of the period piece with Valkyrie so I’m sure this will be a good one too.

Bryan Singer Comes Back for ‘X-Men: First Class’ (Interview)

Bryan Singer X-Men

Great news for X-Men fans has come, Bryan Singer is returning to direct X-Men: First Class. Here’s a recent interview:

Singer got on the phone to talk “First Class,” his other projects such as New Line’s fairy tale “Jack the Giant Killer” and what he thought of “Avatar.”

Heat Vision: So how did you end up coming back to “X-Men”?

Bryan Singer: It started with a conversation between (Fox co-chairman) Tom Rothman and I some time ago. We not only concluded a deal, but I’ve written a pretty concise treatment. There’s a story that I really want to tell.

Heat Vision: What is the story?

Singer: I can’t tell you that; it’s secret. But it’s basically about the formation of the X-Men. How they began and the relationship between a young Xavier and a young Magneto.

Heat Vision: I remember when you left “X3″ to do “Superman Returns.” It wasn’t under the best of circumstances.

Singer: A lot of that was comical and exaggerated. When you set up a rather lucrative franchise and produce one of the company’s biggest television shows (“House”), I think there is a lot of good energy on a business level.

But also, Tom Rothman and I have a very strong relationship from those early days of “X-Men 1″ when he ascended to the chairmanship and I was involved in this very important movie for the studio. We bonded then. So I think he was frustrated then, as was I, because I couldn’t do a third “X-Men,” but that moment of frustration passed.

We have always looked at different projects to do together, but the timing was never right to do something like this. But now, it’s been about 10 years since the first “X-Men,” and this is a nice opportunity to look back at the origins of that universe.

Bryan Singer to Direct ‘Jack the Giant Killer’

bryan_singer-1-superman_returnsjackgiantkiller

Bryan Singer is lined up to direct the new film Jack the Giant Killer.

The filmmaker has signed on to direct “Jack the Giant Killer,” the fantasy adventure from New Line and Legendary Pictures.

Neal Moritz is producing via his Original Film banner along with David Dobkin.

The story, by Mark Bomback (“Live Free or Die Hard”) and Darren Lemke (“Gemini Man”), is set in motion when a princess is kidnapped, threatening a long-standing peace between men and giants. A young farmer is given an opportunity to lead a dangerous expedition to the giants’ kingdom in hopes of rescuing her.

Sounds much more epic and dark than Jack and the Beanstalk, I wonder if there will even be a beanstalk. The film is in good hands with Bryan Singer at the helm, it will be interesting to see how this turns out.

‘X-Men: First Class’ Not a Spin-Off, Actual Prequel

387px-x-men_first_class_vol_2_2

So apparently the new X-Men: First Class film is a prequel to the current slate of movies. It’s not a spin-off as was originally reported.

X-Men franchise producer Lauren Shuler Donner revealed on Fox Movie Channel’s Life After Film School that the film actually focuses on “the first class of Xavier’s school, way back when.”

“So it’s young Scott, young Jean, young Beast and that’ll be really fun,” Donner said. “I think (the plan) is to follow some of the characters into their own stories, and weave them back into the X-Men world. And hopefully First Class will become its own franchise and we can follow them as they grow up.”

This could be good, maybe they can get Bryan Singer back on this one and get the quality of the first two movies back.

Bryan Singer May Be Directing New Comic Movie ‘Freedom Formula’

bryan_singer_1freeformcov2

Bryan Singer, director of The Usual Suspects, X-Men 1 & 2, Superman Returns and most recently Valkyrie may be going back to the helm of a comic book movie for Freedom Formula

New Regency has acquired “Freedom Formula: Ghost of the Wasteland,” an adaptation of the Radical Publishing comicbook series that will be developed as a potential directing vehicle for Bryan Singer.

The comicbook has a futuristic premise in which fighter jets have been replaced by pilots who battle in racing exo-suits. The protag is a genetically engineered racer who learns his bloodline has the power to change society.

I hope he takes the job, it would be good to see him get back to comic books. He’s definitely a talented director.
