Charlize Theron helped the charity ONEXONE big time last week!  She appeared at the group’s gala event and live auction at Bimbo’s in San Francisco and raised bucks - and temperatures.

The actress initially put a trip to South Africa (complete with 2010 World Cup tickets, a meeting with Nelson Mandela, and a safari) on the auction block.  Unsatisifed with the bids, which stalled at $37,000, Charlize threw in a kiss.   That did the trick:  a female attendee bid $140,000 - outbidding a male attendee by $5,000 - for the right to smooch Charlize.

Way to go!  ONEXONE works to improve the overall health and living conditions of children in living in poor countries.  They’ve got lots of celebrity support, including that of Ben Affleck.

Jennifer’s Body‘s Amanda Seyfried attended Autism Speaks’ 7th Annual Acts of Love benefit at Santa Monica College this weekend.   She looked great!  Love the simple black dress.

Better than her outfit, though, I love that she got involved in such a worthy cause.  Amanda was one of several celebrities who delivered readings and quotes “all in celebration of champions in the Autism Community.”  Also performing were Carla Gugino, Michaela Conlin, Amber Tamblyn, and Zachary Quinto.

For over a month now, comedian/actor Eddie Izzard, has been running a marathon a day to raise money for charity in the UK!  There have been a one or two days of rest for him along the way, as well as a few shows, but he is still running.  Today is marathon #36 where he will end in Leeds.

Eddie Izzard is running to raise money for the  Comic Relief organization.  They raise money for everything from counseling and phone calls for older adults living alone, malaria medicine for children in Uganda, and school supplies for those in South America.

Eddie should be done with his marathon a day Tuesday September 15th, where he will wrap up in London.  You can follow Eddie’s  journey on his Twitter account (@eddieizzard).  He sends out lots of pictures along the way so you can keep track of just where he is, and if he decides to do a last minute show.

Layla Kayleigh of America’s Best Dance Crew is the latest celeb to strip down to their skivvies to promote PETA’s agenda.  She plays a sexy mouse - clad in a bra, panties, tail and mouse ears - in an ad denouncing products tested on animals.

The ad reads:

Every year, countless mice, rats, cats, dogs, rabbits and other animals suffer and die in cruel and pointless product-testing experiments.  Please buy only cruelty-free products.

Of her decision to team up with PETA, Layla said:

“It really takes such a small thing to make such big impact, you know, and I feel like the more people get involved, the more it can make a difference.”

Regardless of your position on animal testing, this ad is bound to get your attention.  Enjoy!

You’ve probably seen the commercials featuring celebrities whose brands are sold at Macy’s.  They’re cute, and pretty funny - which is high praise coming from me, because I hate commercials!  However, the latest ad in the series will be hard to hate, because it’s for a good cause.  Martha Stewart, Mariah Carey, Usher, Jessica Simpson, Donald Trump, Queen Latifah, Emeril Lagasse and Tommy Hilfiger appear in a pitch to support the nation’s largest huger relief charity, Feeding America.

The commercial shows the stars at a dinner party, and asks the public to hold dinner parties at which they ask their guests to contribute to Feeding America.  Macy’s has agreed to match every dollar donated by the public one to one.

Of his participation in this latest ad, Usher said:

“To get together and do something philanthropic is just incredible.”

Seems that Bethenny Frankel will do just about anything for attention these days. Her latest ploy (besides comparing The Real Housewives reunion to Vietnam) will be posing nude for PETA. She will be following in the huge reality star footsteps of Khloe Kardashian and Audrina Patridge as part of the “I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur Campaign“. Heres’ what she had to say about getting naked for all the world to see:

“I’m unexpectedly not that concerned with body image,” Frankel said, when asked about donning her birthday suit in public. “Take me as I am.”

Riiiight. That’s why you work out like a crazy person and eat a very strictly healthy diet. You’re concerned.

Bethenny credits a PETA protest at a Fendi event, which included graphic images of skinned animals, for shaping her newfound opinion on fur. “I was ignorant,” she said. “I felt disgusting… Is a fur-lined jacket or boots really that important?”

Look, don’t get me wrong- I love animals, and I hate puppy mills and dog fighting and all of those terrible things. But part of the reason animals were created were to clothe us- it’s been going on since the beginning of time. Now, fur coats are ridiculous, but leather boots? Let’s be reasonable here. How about we spend some time worrying about the kids starving to death all over the world or people dying due to lack of clean water, and spend a little less energy on concerns about leather. Seriously.

I kind of love that Whoopi Goldberg shows up at a fancy-pants fundraiser dressed like this.   She just doesn’t care, which is refreshing in a celebrity.

Here she is on the red carpet for the Blossom Ball at the Prince George Ballroom in Manhattan.  The event was a benefit for the Endometriosis Foundation of America.  Top Chef hottie Padma Lakshmi (looking much more glamorous) was one of the evening’s hosts.

Other celebs in attendance included Helena Christensen, Tina Brown, Alexandra Tomlinson and Nicole Trufino.

Madonna’s plans to adopt another child from Malawi (apparently she needed a matched set?) were foiled this week when her bid was denied by Judge Esme Chombo.

The petition was denied on the basis of residency.  Malawi has strict residency rules for adoptions, specifying that prospective adoptive parents must live in the country for at least 18 months.   This rule was waived so that Madge could adopt son David Banda in 2006.   Judge Chombo said:

“According to information from the global media, the Petitioner jetted in during the weekend. In my considered opinion, this would remove the Petitioner from the definition of a resident.”

The judge, who said residency was the “bedrock” of protection for children, also warned celebrity adoptions could increase child trafficking if her country opened its doors “too wide”.

“The point need not be over-emphasised that material needs of a child in America are better provided for than in Malawi. However, in our quest to ensure that the children are well provided for, it should be borne in mind that inter-country adoptions are not the only solutions.”

Schooled!  However, Madonna evidently did not like this at ALL.  She had been told that three year old Mercy James was “definitely hers” and went kind of nuts when given the news.  She “stormed off” after getting word from her lawyer.  Witnesses said:

“She was unrecognisably angry — she seemed in emotional agony.  We couldn’t tell if she was crying, but her daughter Lourdes ran and put her arms round her. Madonna said to her lawyer, ‘This is the worst day of my life’.

She yelled at him, ‘What went wrong? How could this happen’? He was staring at the ground.”

A family friend commented:

“This is a massive embarrassment for her. She is furious, shocked, devastated and cannot believe what’s happened.”

I think Madge got exactly what she deserved.  She has poured millions in donations to orphans in Malawi, and thinks that can buy her a child?   Hopefully this slap in the face will bring her crazy ass to its senses!

Generous Denzel Washington is a savior - literally!  He made a donation recently that helped the Roswell (New Mexico) Boys & Girls Club keep its doors open.

While he was filming his new movie The Book Of Eli, he learned that “the establishment was in danger of closing due to financial woes.”   He immediately made a $50,000 gift, and encouraged local residents to donate another $5,000.

This is a cause near and dear to Denzel’s heart:  he is the spokesman for the Boys & Girls Club.    I always admire celebrities who put their money where their mouth is!

No, she’s not doing one of those “I’d rather go naked” spots!  Cloris Leachman is far classier than that!  She appears in PETA’s new “Let Vegetarianism Grow On You” ad.

In the photos, she wears a formal gown made of red cabbage and leaf lettuce.  It is actually really pretty!  Cloris is 82 years old and has been a vegetarian for 40 years.

Cloris wants you to know that it’s easy to choose vegetarian alternatives. “Start learning about it. It doesn’t have to be all of a sudden or a great huge education, but it’s sort of a little journey that you make all your life.”

Nicole Richie was glowing - just like a pregnant woman should - at a private cocktail party for the Richie-Madden Children’s Foundation.

She looks incredible, doesn’t she? Her hippie-inspired dress flows so well over her itty bitty baby belly, and the colors are just awesome - so rich and very different from the other gowns celebs are wearing right now.

Earth Hour: The Huge Turn Off- Alanis Morissette PSA

The people in charge of this year’s Earth Hour have pulled out all the stops. On on March 28 they are encouraging us all turn off our lights for an hour at 8:30 p.m. local time. And for this spot the ‘turn off’ is Alanis Morrisette trimming her toenails on an airplane with nails flying everywhere. That bugs me period even not on a plane so they got my attention with that one.

Anna Kournikova was front and center at the Destination Fashion charity event in Bal Harbour, Florida this past weekend.

Yes, that is a black bra under her white t-shirt.  Didn’t most of us learn not to make that error back in about 8th grade?  Add that to a patent leather skirt and you’ve got the perfect recipe for a fashion disaster.  You’d think that she’d try to step it up a bit for a fashion-oriented event.  But no.

The star-studded event raised over $3.8 million for The Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis.   Performers and attendees included The Pointer Sisters, Seal, Tommy Lee Jones, Gloria Estefan, and designer Michael Kors.

Elizabeth Hurley is participating in a unique campaign to support a domestic violence prevention charity in England.

She and model-slash-heiress Jasmine Guiness have donated family photos which will be made into limited-edition postage stamps.  The stamps will be auctioned on eBay, and the funds raised will go to the organization Women’s Aid.

Hurley contributed photos of her six year old son, Damien.   She said:

‘The images I have chosen mean a lot to me as a mother and it is great that my photography can be used in a way that benefits others.’

I think this is a very cool idea.  Bravo to Elizabeth for getting involved!
