West Memphis Three Go FREE: Eddie Vedder, Johnny Depp Among Supporters

The three men convicted of the 1993 killing three young cub scout boys in Arkansas will be allowed to leave jail after entering a guilty plea.

Known as the “West Memphis Three” – Damien Echols, Jessie Misskelley and Jason Baldwin have maintained their innocence in the brutal slaying of Christopher Byers, Steve Branch and James Michael Moore even after a confession was given to police.

Misskelley copped to the killings after a 12 hour interrogation but almost immediately recanted. The Arkansas police were criticized for extracting the confession when it was discovered Misskelley has an I.Q. of 72 and what he told police did not match the evidence they had.

After the convictions of the men, including Echols death sentence, DNA evidence was tested recently with a test unavailable at the time and it was unable to link any of the men to the crime scene. The Arkansas State Supreme Court ruled they could present new evidence in an effort to clear themselves.

Now they’ve been able to enter an Alford plea, which in effect says they acknowledge prosecutors have evidence to convict them but still say they are innocent of wrong doing.

The deal sets them free this afternoon after serving close to 20 years behind bars and gives each of the men 10 years parole.

“They are currently being processed out,” prosecuting Attorney Scott Ellington told reporters during a Friday press conference. “They will be free men … on suspended sentence.”

“Only time will tell as to whether this was the right decision,” Ellington added.

Among the famous supporters for the men’s freedom: Johnny Depp, Pearl Jam‘s Eddie Vedder, Dixie Chicks Natalie Manes and Henry Rollins. There have been 2 documentaries about the trial – Paradise Lost 1 and 2 and the third film will premiere at the Toronto Film Festival later this year.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge hosted The Foundation Polo Challenge at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club which sold tickets for $4000 to see William play polo. The proceeds went to the American Friends of the Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry.

Lady Gaga Says Lawsuit For Alleged Japan Charity Scam Is “Without Merit”

Remember the bracelets that Lady Gaga was selling to raise funds for Japan relief?   Evidently no good deed goes unpunished.  Gaga has been slapped with a lawsuit alleging that this effort was actually a scam, and that she personally profited from the sale of the wristbands.

Let’s review:  the bracelets cost $5 each.  On top of that, Gaga’s website charges $3.99 in shipping and $0.60 in taxes.  The federal class action suit claims that Gaga charged inflated shipping costs and also kept part of the $5 for herself rather than donating all of the proceeds to charity.    It is not clear how the attorneys in the case, 1-800-LAW-FIRM, or the plaintiffs, know what exactly happened with the money.  Read the complaint here.

Gaga’s spokesperson, Holly Shakoor, had harsh words in response to this legal action:

‘This misguided lawsuit is without merit and unfortunately takes attention away from the kind deeds of the fans around the world who are supporting the people of Japan.  The entire five dollar donation made with the purchase of each bracelet is going to support the disaster relief.  No profit is being made on shipping costs. Sales tax charges were made in accordance with local legal requirements.

‘Lady Gaga has personally pledged her own funds to this cause and continues to support the victims of the disaster.’

The Mother Monster has reportedly made donations of about $3 million to the cause to date.

What do you think?  Did Gaga actually do wrong?  Or are some lawyers just trying to make a buck?  Honestly, $3.99 for shipping doesn’t seem like that much.   And keep in mind that she earned an estimated $90 million last year.   Do we really think Lady Gaga go to such lengths to to set up a charity scam to get a few extra dollars out of her fans?

Lady Gaga At The MTV VideoMusic Aid Japan Benefit (Photos + Video)

Lady Gaga kicked off the MTV Video Music Aid Japan benefit concert with an energetic mash-up of her hit songs “Born This Way” and “Edge of Glory.”

She performed in a black bikini and thank goodness she opted not to include her green-blue underarm hair and merkin this time.   Instead, she chose a much less amusing and totally creepy accessory:  crazy, anime eye patches.  Those things totally freak me out!

The two-hour show was a benefit for the Japanese Red Cross, who continues to provide aid to those displaced by the March 11 Japanese earthquake and tsunami.  Lady Gaga has been extremely committed to supporting this cause from the beginning.

Check out more pictures of Gaga on the red carpet and a video of her performance after the jump.

Olivia Wilde Doesn’t Have The ‘Energy’ To Date All The Guys She’s Linked To

Olivia Wilde was honored at the 10th Annual Chrysalis Butterfly Ball in Los Angeles over the weekend for her activist work and took another opportunity to laugh off romance rumors.

Wilde received her award from her Cowboys & Aliens director Jon Favreau for her work with Artists for Peace and Justice.

“Thank you @Jon_Favreau for presenting me with my butterfly award tonight at Chrysalis. Dude, we met L.L Cool J,” she tweeted.

The actress rockin’ a ponytail and bangs, wore a long black and white print dress from Yigal Azrouel with sheer sleeves and said she gets that folks want details of her life after the divorce but she’s just not up to dating all the men she’s being linked with.

“I find it hilarious,” the House star said. “I don’t know why they just think that I can have the energy to be dating all of these people. I’m single and I think it’s so funny and, you know, I think now people are curious, so if I’m with a friend, they think he’s my boyfriend. I have a lot of guy friends, but they’re only friends.”

Right now, the only guy in her life and her bed is furry. Wilde tweeted a photo of herself and her cute pooch taking a snoozle.

“Ok I know I’m not supposed to tweet sexy photos (damn you Wiener!) but here is my and my (only!) boyfriend in bed,” she posted.

No Bradley Cooper or Justin Timberlake romance in the cards, Olivia?
