Shortest engagement ever?   After announcing their engagement just a couple of weeks ago, Aretha Franklin and William “Willie” Wilkerson have already called it off.   They released the following statement today:

“Regretfully, To Our Friends and Supporters: Will and I have decided we were moving a little too fast, and there were a number of things that had not been thought through thoroughly.  There will be no wedding at this time.”

“We will not comment on it any further because of the very personal and sensitive nature of it. We appreciate all of the many well wishes from friends.”

The pair, who have been partners and friends for more than 20 years, had been planning to wed this summer.

You’ve got to wonder what happened here, but hopefully they’ll be able to remain friends.

Two of the most gorgeous people on the planet are taking themselves off the singles market.

Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez are reportedly set to tie the knot according to the engagement ring designer.

Berry, 45, and Martinez, 46, met on the set of their film Dark Tides and have been dating for over a year.

Halle, who has two past marriages (baseball player David Justice and singer Eric Benet are her ex-husbands) has told pals she didn’t think she would marry again but Olivier changed her mind.

“Halle has found her true soulmate in Olivier and it’s only a matter of time before they tie the knot,” a friend of the  pair said.

“She’s madly in love and knows she wants to spend the rest of her life with him. Olivier has been the rock that Halle has never had in any of her relationships.”

Berry has a daughter, Nahla Rose, with her former boyfriend of 5 years, model Gabriel Aubry with whom she shares custody.

Olivier has dated Mira Sorvino and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. He was also singer Kylie Minogue‘s boyfriend while she underwent treatment for breast cancer.

A reported October wedding is in the works for the couple.

Reports are circulating that Evan Rachel Wood and boyfriend Jamie Bell have become engaged but is it true?

Wood and Bell were photographed leaving The Hotel Cafe in Hollywood and the True Blood actress was seen wearing a sparkler on her ring finger that has websites assuming the couple has become engaged.

Bell, 25, was spotted shopping for engagement rings in Beverly Hills last month adding fuel to the speculation and US Weekly cites a source as confirming the duo’s new relationship status.

No official word from either actor’s reps but Wood has shot down the rumor in the past.

At the Ides of March premiere in November she was asked about a ring she wore on her engagement ring and she said it wasn’t what people assumed.

Sorry to disappoint, but I have been wearing that diamond on my left hand since I was 14,” she tweeted at the time. “It was my aunts. Any engagement rumor is false.”

The two met in 2005 on the set of Green Day‘s video “Wake Me Up (When September Ends)” and dated for a year before going their separate ways.

As for an engagement, whether it’s the same ring or a brand new one, no one is saying just yet, so for now it remains an unconfirmed rumor.

Aaron Paul has cooked up a proposal to his girlfriend Lauren Parsekian.

The Breaking Bad actor popped the question to Parsekian in Paris on New Years Eve, according to a post on her Facebook page.

“Coming back home today with my fiance!!! NYE proposal in Paris,” she wrote.

“Couldn’t be more perfect. I’m so happy and excited and honored to share my life with the most amazing man on the planet.”

Paul, 32, won an Emmy for his portrayal of Jesse Pinkman, the troubled young man who starts a meth dealing partnership with his former chemistry teacher Walter White (Bryan Cranston).

Parsekian co-founded and is president of the Kind Campaign, an organization dedicated to the idea and education that “brings awareness and healing to the negative and lasting effects of girl-against-girl “crime.”

Miami Heat star LeBron James celebrated the New Year in a romantic style!  He proposed to his longtime girlfriend, Savannah Brinson, at a New Year’s Eve party in South Beach, Florida.  Guests included Queen Latifah, Chris Bosh, and the couple’s children, LeBron Jr. (7) and Bryce (4).

The intimate party at the Shelborne Hotel was hosted by James’ teammate Dwayne Wade and his girlfriend Gabrielle Union.

James and Brinson have dated since high school.

 The parade of holiday engagements continues!  Irish actor Chris O’Dowd is engaged to his girlfriend, British TV personality Dawn Porter.

The groom-to-be proposed on the couple’s vacation in Havelet Bay, Guernsey, an island in the English Channel, where Porter grew up.

They both Tweeted their good news.  O’Dowd joked:

“I’m so bored of all this happiness and sex. I’m getting married.”

Porter showed her own fine sense of humor, Tweeting:

“I guess he liked it, coz he put a ring on it. #engaged.”

O’Dowd was last seen in Bridesmaids, in which he played opposite Kristen Wiig.  He’ll next appear in This Is 40, a sequel to Knocked Up.

NBA legend Michael Jordan is engaged to his girlfriend of three years.  Yvette Prieto is a Cuban-American model who has been previously linked to Julio Iglesias, Jr. 

Jordan and Prieto, who got engaged over the Christmas weekend, have had a fairly low-key relationship, and have been living together since 2009.  No wedding date has been set.

(It was evidently THE holiday for models to get engaged:  swimsuit model Chrissy Teigen and singer John Legend also announced their engagement.)

A gorgeous holiday vacation in the Maldives was the backdrop for John Legend‘s marriage proposal to Chrissy Teigen.

The singer and the model escaped to the island nation in the Indian Ocean for some time away and they returned as an engaged couple.

A rep for the couple confirmed the engagement but no other details have been released at this time. Legend and Teigen have been dating for 4 years.

Legend, 33, has won nine Grammy Awards over the years and is active in many charitable causes including his Show Me Campaign which fights poverty in the US and Africa.

Teigen, 26, made her Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue modelling debut last year and has a food blog So Delushious! (I happen to enjoy her blog,)

Legend will be in Las Vegas this weekend to perform at The Pearl at the Palms for New Year’s Eve.

It was definetly a happy holiday for Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves who became engaged this Christmas.

McConaughey posted a photo of the couple sharing a Christmas kiss to his WhoSay account and spread the news:

“just asked camila to marry me, merry Christmas,” the actor posted with the pic.

Alves, 29, who is a Brazilian model and hosted one season of Bravo‘s Sheer Genius, is the mother of the couple’s two children: Levi and Vida.

The 42 year-old Lincoln Lawyer star spoke to Esquire magazine about Camila and marriage earlier this year.

“I found the woman… I wanna make a family with, hopefully live our life out together,” McConaughey said.

McConaughey will be in the 2012 Steven Soderbergh film Magic Mike with Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer and Joe Manganiello. The story is based on Tatum’s life as a young man in Florida, before he made it in Hollywood, working as a male stripper.

Britney Spears and Jason Trawick have gotten engaged.

Trawick, who was Britney’s manager until earlier this year, has been dating the pop star since 2009 and reportedly popped the question to Spears last night.

“This is something they’ve both wanted for a long time,” a source told US Weekly. “It’s a way to cement their family. They’re both extremely happy and can’t wait to become man and wife.”

Britney hinted at a receiving very special, very early present:

“OMG. Last night Jason surprised me with the one gift I’ve been waiting for. Can’t wait to show you! SO SO SO excited!!!! Xxo” she tweeted.

Trawick has been instrumental in helping Spears career after her very public struggles in 2007 and 2008. He has been a part of her management team since Spears’ father, Jamie Spears began making financial and career decisions for her through a legal conservatorship.

TMZ reports the couple will celebrate their engagement in Las Vegas’ Paris Hotel at the Chocolate Lounge inside the Sugar Factory with a huge group of friends. They will then move on to the Chateau Nightclub to round out their night.
