Milla Jovovich is known for kicking butt in movies like Resident Evil, but she also kicks butt as a mom to her daughter, Ever. She shared some of her parenting philosophies with Parade.
How being a parent gives you perspective:
“Before you have kids, you create so many problems that are centered in yourself. You’re thinking, Am I ready for this audition? Am I good enough? Now that I have a kid, it’s not such a big deal. Even if I don’t get the job, I know I’m going to be really busy at home. Being a mother to my daughter, Ever, is a full-time job. Now it’s all about my baby, her growing up well and getting everything she needs. Everything else is just a plus.”
On the importance of communicating with your kids:
“You’ve got to know your kids like the back of your hand and make sure they’re honest with you and not scared to tell you things. I know when Ever goes to school I’ll be letting my little bird go, but I just want to make sure she tells me everything that happened, good or bad.”
On controlling what media kids are exposed to:
“I think parents need to take a lot more responsibility than they do about whether it’s OK for their children to go to Resident Evil or any other movie with violence or sex or whatever. It’s really easy to blame Hollywood for violence having an effect on kids, but movies would have no power if parents would just set their own standards. And it’s the same with video games.”
Wise words! I think Milla sounds like an awesome mom.

Britney Spears and Kevin Federline will continue to share custody of their sons Jayden James and Sean Preston, per the extension of an order made by a Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge prior to the beginning of her Circus concert tour.
Under the court order, K-Fed gets $20,000 a month from Brit-Brit if the kids are in California. If she takes them out of town, like she has during her current tour, the child support amount increases to $25,000. In addition, Brit is required to provide her ex with housing wherever she goes on tour, so that he can spend time with the kids, too.
The judge will review their case again at the end of the year, and is expected to make the arrangement permanent.
I think it’s amazing how much Britney has improved. She sure has come a long way since her freak-out nearly two years ago. I hope this lasts, because it can only be better for the kids.

Maddox Jolie-Pitt is just eight years old, but evidently he’s old enough to understand tabloid headlines. He’s apparently seen too much of the gossip rags talking trash about his parents, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, and “has been asking a lot of questions.”
So, according to the Chicago Sun-Times‘ source, this is why Brad has been giving interviews everywhere lately. Even though Maddox and sibs
‘’see the true, loving relationship Angie and Brad have with each other [and] they really don’t think their personal lives are anyone’s business, I think by putting out positive stories about their relationship, they believe it will make their son happy. They want to give him some headlines that are true and will settle him down.”
I’m sorry, but that’s ridiculous. First of all, how frequently are the kids out at the grocery store or other places where they see these headlines with any regularity? Second, there is no guarantee that “positive” stories will result from any interview. Third, does Brad really think that saying you should “take pictures of other people’s wives’ butts” instead of your own wife’s butt is a positive reflection of his relationship, and a model he wants to offer to his son? I don’t usually believe “sources” but this one is particularly lacking in credibility.

Or maybe like… their mom?
Britney Spears was spotted with her sons Sean Preston and Jayden James at a swag suite in Los Angeles last week. While she gathered up a bunch of free stuff, they impressed the other guests with repeated outbursts of “Oh sh*t!”
Observers were “shocked” but also thought it was “pretty funny.” Brit-Brit, naturally, either didn’t notice or didn’t care, because she did nothing.
Toddlers swearing IS both shocking and funny, true. But it’s also a bit white trash, which does nothing to improve Britney’s already trashy image. And I shudder to think what my mom would have done to me and my sibs if we swore like that - or heck, what she’d probably STILL do!
UPDATE: Now reports are saying that this story may be partially untrue. Supposedly Britney “never stopped at one sponsor station” to get freebies. And a source for the L.A. Times says she “never heard either boy swear.” Which doesn’t mean that they DIDN’T, it just means that she didn’t hear them. Hey, it’s celebrity gossip, folks - take it all with a grain of salt!

It’s a child boom for those headed for Sex and the City! Just a few months after Sarah Jessica Parker welcomed her twins, via surrogate, Willie Garson announced he has adopted an 8 year old son. Willie plays Stanford Blatch, Carrie’s best gay friend in the Sex and the City franchise.
Garson explained that though he was at first hoping to adopt a younger child, he was just taken by his son to be, Nathan, at an adoption fair in Los Angeles.
“It’s like a pet fair – as horrifying as you can imagine,” he recalls. “It was really hard. The 16-year-old fat, ugly kid, who has probably been to 30 of these, knows he’s not going to get adopted. Like everything, cute wins.”
“I couldn’t believe my kid was actually available for adoption,” says the doting dad. “He’s so cute and sweet.”
How horrifying that must have been to be a kid at one of those adoption fairs! I can’t even imagine what must be going through their minds.
As for what their new life together will be like, now that they will be moving to New York City?
“I think he’s going to be freaked out when we go to New York, where [the SATC cast] are like the Yankees,” jokes Garson. “We can’t walk 20 feet without being mobbed.”
And with filming starting later this year, I’m sure little Nathan will get a full dose of what it’s like to have his dad being in one of the most famous movies in New York!

It’s a family Celebration for Madonna and daughter Lourdes Leon! Word is out that 12 year old Lourdes will appear in the video for her mom’s upcoming single, Celebration. I wonder if she’ll be dancing or acting or both?
The album releases September 29, but look for the video at the end of August.

John Travolta is still severely grieving the loss of his son Jett back in January, say those close to him.
His neighbors report that he is often seen driving a golf cart late at night on the private runway near his home.
“We often see John driving himself around at night. It’s sad to see. You rarely catch sight of him during the day. We used to see him driving around on a buggy with his son. Now it’s just John by himself. He’s always been a night owl, but now even more so.”
Others describe Travolta’s “state of almost constant distress.” His The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 costar Denzel Washington said:
“One minute he’s OK, the next he’s in tears. He’s such a sweet, sweet person.”
This is so sad! I cannot imagine losing a child. It’s going to be a long time before the family returns to anything feeling like normal.

Everyone else has tried to get a piece of publicity around Michael Jackson’s death, so why not Paris Hilton? During a promotional appearance for her new documentary, Paris, Not France, she claimed that Jackson named his 11 year old daughter, Paris Jackson, after her.
Evidently her mom, Kathy Hilton, went to school for a while with Michael,
“and they were best friends since they were 13. So I grew up knowing Michael very well and when he had his daughter, he always loved the name Paris and grew up being an uncle to me. So he asked my mom if it was okay, and of course she said ‘yes’ and I think she’s such a beautiful little girl and I’m proud we have the same name.”
Evidently the families were close for real, but poor Paris J. She was probably better off not knowing whom she was named after. How would you feel knowing you were named after one of the skankiest and stupidest celebrities on the face of the earth?

Wild child Peaches Geldof is the face of Ultimo Lingerie’s new “fun, flirty, fashion-conscious” line, Miss Ultimo.
Could she be more adorable? I love the sexy retro diner setting, and the lingerie is really cute. And I love the juxtaposition of the the 1950s style and Peaches’ tattoos (which are gorgeous).
Evidently she is earning six figures for this gig, which she seems rather proud of.
‘I’d rather young girls were looking at a normal body like mine rather than an anorexic model…Dad [Sir Bob Geldof] hasn’t seen the pictures yet. But I’m not worried about his reaction because I’m a 20-year-old woman not a 13-year-old girl. I’m glad I can earn money like this.’
Well, we’re glad too. This photoshoot is just as delicious as all those cupcakes and milkshakes!

If you’re Tom Cruise, it’s never too early to start teaching your daughter about Xenu. Suri Cruise is about to turn three, and she’s all set to start preschool at the Scientology-related New Village Academy.
The Los Angeles school was launched last year by Will and Jada Smith, who continue to claim they are not Scientologists. In fact, they deny that the school is a Scientology school. However, this is evidently what Suri can expect when she starts school:
“It is staffed by trained Scientologists and lists ‘study technology’ as a key curricular focus. The children have a lot of responsibilities from a very young age…The school is particularly strict about nutrition, demanding a low-carb, low-sodium and low-sugar organic diet.”
And at the New Village Academy, apparently only perfection is acceptable:
Upon completion of a subject chapter such as in math, the teacher sends the student to the testing room, where he/she is given an test in various forms. If the student scores anything less than 100%, the examinations teacher will sit down with the student and go over the part of the exam that was not fully understood and make sure the student understands all of the words and concepts in the chapter. The teacher will also make sure the student did not skip any concepts which would inhibit learning. This is done to help students so that they gain 100% mastery.
Wow, that sounds like hours and hours of tail wagging fun. Poor little Suri just learned to walk recently, and now she’s got to get 100% on her math tests? At least she’ll be the most stylin’ girl in the preschool class!

Imagine being a tween girl and having Clive Owen for a father. You’d probably be swamped by classmates trying to become your friend so that they can meet your movie star dad, right? Or maybe you’d just be totally mortified.
Clive told In Touch that his daughters Hannah, 12, and Eve, 9, do their best to keep him in check.
“They send me texts like ‘Don’t wear the velvet jacket because it’s weird and embarrassing!’”
So the girls don’t think their dad is hip, then?
“They definitely don’t think that! They know me better than that.”
What kid isn’t embarrassed by their parents at that age, even (or maybe I should say especially) the famous ones?

This is scary, even for Britney Spears. The singer, who is currently on tour, has increased security after receiving anonymous death threats by both phone and mail. A source says:
“…her worst fear is a kidnap plot against Sean or Jayden. She’s been having terrible nightmares ever since then and she wakes up in the middle of the night crying out for her boys.”
Normally I would want to say something sarcastic about Brit-Brit, but I can’t even find anything to say. I know it’s common for celebs to get threats like this, but it’s still got to be an awful thing to have to deal with.

Gwen Stefani has two children, Kingston and Zuma, and that being said they are different names then you usually hear for babies. Gwen wanted a quirky name for her new son, Zuma, that got the idea from her band mate Tom Dumont’s wife Mieke.
“I kind of stole it from him. I didn’t steal it, I mean his wife didn’t want it. It was just one of those things that just happened. I just wanted Zuma to have a little bit of a quirky name.”
Gwen had been talking with Mieke about baby names while the both of them pregnant. Zuma was mentioned because Zuma Beach, California was close to where Gwen and husband, Gavin Rossdale live. So Gwen heard it and immediately liked it.
Picking names for you kids are so hard! I know that was one of the hardest things I ever did for my kids.
